It seems so 😭

Bruh what? They're citing lack of staff? They haven't even asked for volunteers! I would be happy to help!

[–] 14th_cylon@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (2 children)
[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago

Yeah, I got close to volunteering, too, but honestly, my plate is too full doing more important stuff in the real world atm.

[–] AnyOldName3@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (4 children)

You don't necessarily want to just ask for volunteers as that's a great way to summon exactly the kind of people you don't want to put in charge of online communities. The best way is usually to notice people who are already part of the community and consistently make positive contributions, then ask for their help. If none of those people want to, though, you're stuck.

Are there any active communities hosted here that will be lost?

[–] 14th_cylon@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

lemm.ee is one of the biggest instances. yes, there are communities and all of them will be lost.

is this trolling, or are you serious?

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 0 points 11 months ago (2 children)

No need to be a dick.

What large communities are hosted here?

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago

You can view the communities list if you so desire. It's linked on almost every page, or likely surfaced in your client.

[–] artiman@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago

Probably but not any that I'm subscribed to

[–] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 11 months ago

!movies@lemm.ee, !casualconversation@lemm.ee, !television@lemm.ee

We are going to organize the migration in the coming days.

they could just continue without mods. everyone hates mods.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Pfft, you say that but there's no way.

Go look at a big instance's defederation list. Just the URLs should be enough to clue you in.

[–] Goten@piefed.social 0 points 11 months ago (4 children)

censorship isnt the answer. its always abused by the party in power. so id rather have death threads, cp and genovidal remarks removed than letting my admins get burned out by every thing they dont like. im just sad that lemm.ee went this way. the fediverse is tiny compared to reddit and x but already breaking from the inside because people cant just fucking downvote, block users and scroll away. no every thing post gets put on the goldscale.

[–] turtle@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago

Pretty closely mirrors my thoughts. Especially since Lemmy now allows users to block any combination of: users, communities, or entire instances.

You don’t know what you are asking for. There are far more toxic people out there that you can possible handle or imagine and even if you can do it (which I doubt) then majority won’t and they would just delete accounts and move elsewhere.

Even I cannot handle everything internet has to offer. Even me.

Don’t ask me what is there, you don’t want to know. We need to be sheltered because we aren’t psychopaths and that’s good.

I wish the best for the admin and mods of lemm.ee. I can attest to the frustration that is running any online community though, especially one built on/dependent on Lemmy. I am sorry to see you stepping out @sunaurus@lemm.ee but hope you're doing alright otherwise. Was real nice bouncing ideas and changes off you in the past.

[–] artiman@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago

I also wish the best for the admins and mods

I guess it's time to migrate to piefed. I really love some of the things they're doing - but I'll miss lemm.ee, I feel most other instances either defederate way too much, or way too little (as in, not at all)...

[–] artiman@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I was waiting for piefed to develop a little bit more ig this is the best opportunity now

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Dammit, I literally just relaunched !radiolemmy@lemm.ee this week. What unfortunate timing.

To any of my subscribers reading this: I'm currently in the process of finding a new instance. I'll edit this comment when I establish a new home for Radio Lemmy. Stay tuned...

[–] mjhelto@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

YOU DID THIS TO US!!!!

In all seriousness, I'm sorry your community is going away. What kind of stuff was it for? Radio as in AM and FM? Ham? Frequencies for radio waves? Aliens?

Let me know where you end up and I'll subscribe! I finally convinced my wife to join Lemmy on .ee. It is unfortunate that she'll have to pick a new instance, but I get it why the effort outweighs the benefit of running an instance.

Edit This was also my first instance after reddit. I donated a few months ago to help with what I could. I, too, will miss it. As far as instances went, this one matched my personality the closest. Censorship was light but fair. Only now do I realize that it might have been a lack of admin intervention that made that possible!

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Sorry guys; my bad. It's all my fault.

Jokes aside, it is going to be an internet radio station run by Lemmy users. We will have live DJs, scheduled programming blocks, and all music will be picked by the community.

This actually a relaunch. I originally launched the station back in 2023 but it barely lasted two months because I couldn't get enough content nor enough DJs to fill the schedule.

This time around I'm not launching the station until I have enough content to actually function like a proper radio station. I'm shooting for Q3 2025 because I feel like that is a wide enough window to get enough volunteers before we hit the airwaves. It all depends on you.

So if you want to contribute a block of programming, or even just give me a list of your favorite tunes, please read this first, and then PM we what you've got.

Also if you want to be a live DJ, please fill out this 4 question application.

Thank you and see you on the airwaves soon!

[–] mjhelto@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You're awesome. That sounds like a great project. What are you thinking of moving to for an instance so I can look for the community?

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I want radiolemmy@lemmy.radio but that instance is more for terrestrial amateur radio so I don't think my application will be approved. I'll probably just pick a major instance to minimize the chances that this happens again.

Anyone have suggestions for similar instances?

I assume my user account will also go down? I'm new to the lemmy community so I don't know how this would interfere with me being able to comment and post on other instances from this account

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

Your account will still exist, but you won’t be able to use it. So you should probably make an alt on another server.

I’d recommend maybe https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/ (similar but explicitly political unlike lemmee) https://lemmy.cafe/ (similar but defederated from more instances)

[–] arrow74@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago

I do typically browse by all so lemmy.dbzer0.com may be the better option. I like how lemm.ee wasn't defederated from that many instances
