Thanks for your vent. Let it out, then you can give yourself a chance to collect yourself. Also, fuck Reddit, and tell off even the Lemmy users that say you can't be you.

If someone's pronouns are too much for me to remember then I'll just say "Hey you". Easy as that. No need for bullshit excuses.

I'm not good at giving dating advice and I'm not LGBTQ+ so take it with a massive grain of salt, but anytime someone asks me about big questions or decisions in their life, I tend to say these three steps:

First, figure out what it really is you want. Short term, long term, career, dating life, whatever.

Second, think of how you can get or achieve that. You can then self-assess whether your wants are realistically attainable and how long or how much effort it may take.

Third, try to find who can help you get or achieve the things you want, or even help you discover what you want where you're unsure. This is where you can assess whether the people in your life, work etc. are helpful or a hinderance to your goals and needs. Having the right people to support you will make any accomplishment easier to attain.

Try to do it in a calm state, you don't have to suppress emotions but just be honest with yourself, so that you can get a better picture of where you want to go from here.

I think I saw a Rocky and Bullwinkle pinball Machine at an arcade in my metro area (Surrey Central City Fun Park)

I almost always convert cash before I go, from CAD. VBCE has a decent rate even on low amounts of like 150 CAD. If your local exchange will match "any Canadian currency exchange" then check these rates and ask to match. If I didn't bring enough, then I do a little research for no or low fee ATMs then cough up whatever it is.

If you convert from CAD to USD then EUR, you will pay forex fees twice unless you have some special card or US$ account. If you travel a lot, then a forex fee free credit card should be something you consider, unless your points or cashback program is worth more than 2.5%.

I'm not going to get upset at anyone using however many letters to describe an inclusive, group, all of them in the alphabet if they wish. Though if I were in her place I personally would just say MMIWG+, where + is other humans.

Like I think it's bigotry when insisting on removing letters as a policy clearly motivated on exclusion, but in normal conversation, using GBLT+, 2S+, LGBTQ+ etc. for brevity when you are referring to all forms of gender expression, I also won't get upset.

*Upon some more thought, why not just focus on the plus as the banner? Gender expression is a spectrum and unique to each of us. Gender+ (which would be inclusive of agender ppl btw) and Sexuality+ or Romance+ sound pretty cool to my ears, so we can talk about it like an upgrade to people's life and freedom, not needing to conform to cis, binary and heterosexualism, and then we don't have to fit people into one of a myriad of categories we force ourselves to create?

The ad-sponsor description is silly, but Boyle is a decent character and this is fine and thought provoking. He goes from a financial perspective so sure I don't agree with him but he brings sound arguments.

What do you even get from a Luna subscription? Just a Amazon-only rental library of games?

The hilarious thing is Dave the former Microsoft Engineer beat out Microslop by 4 months, vibe coding an AI-less Notepad just for kicks.

I was watching a Canadian political talk show and they brought some clips from early in his first term, him threatening fire and fury to North Korea which is not far off from the language he threatened Iran with.

So it's definitely the same guy pulling the same shtick, maybe with more advanced dementia, but crucially Trump has systematically (with the support from MTG and other MAGA faithful) removed anyone competent enough to prevent him from following through on his impulses. Those impulses that have always been there, and that Democrats and never-Trumper Republicans have warned about.

My read on the situation:

  • Iran said "We will stop attacking if US and Israel stop attacking and considers our plan"
  • USA said "We will stop attacking, not go through with our genocidal war crime threat, and remove the time pressure we put on ourselves"
  • Israel said "We will keep doing our extermination and colonization campaign in Lebanon on the side while you two talk, surely that doesn't count as attacking"

Yeah no worries, I can only make assumptions about your situation when I make my estimate, without knowing everything about stuff like where you live, and to keep the math easy for myself. And I don't think everyone could or should obligate themselves as consumers to go out and buy a new car immediately. When you're in the market to replace (ideally before you desperately need a car when your current one gives up the ghost), that's when you can see a used EV as a better value proposition than a ICE equivalent, or a new EV vs. a new gas car or hybrid.

https://carcosts.caa.ca/ could give you a more representative value of the cost per year of BEV ownership in your province, and compare it to your own records of car expenses.

Looking for good quality playing cards that could be an alternative to US Playing Card Co. (makers of Bicycle and a large variety of other decks). But it looks like it and its Belgian parent company (Cartamundi) owns nearly the whole market for playing cards. Is there no local printer for good quality playing card decks?

A relative of mine plays Bridge a lot and goes through standard playing card decks more often than most. So I thought getting a bunch of decks from a quality Canadian or non-US supplier might be a nice gift if one exists.

They should be standard 54 card decks, no fancy designs needed, it just needs to be a few steps up in quality from the flimsy dollar store decks and souvenir card decks...

It's action packed and fast paced, intuitive to pick up for my novice friends and family, replayable with several kinds of optional mechanics. Initially, I picked it up because someone mentioned it in a Flamme Rouge review as being better than it, and I enjoy both games to pieces as the mechanics are immersive.

The new tracks and stuff seem interesting so I'd like to pick up an expansion, but not multiple at once. So help me pick:

  • Heavy Rain, Japan + Mexico, puddles and consecutive curves, bumch of new cards
  • Tunnel Vision, Netherlands and Spain, tunnels, bunch of new cards
  • Rocky Road (upcoming in 2026), South Africa and Germany, gravel roads and stuff

Crossposting another user's post from !mentalhealth@lemmy.world since that thread is likely to disappear.

Likely valid until Thu Nov 27, 2025, available in Calgary only. Posting just for fun and in case 1TB becomes this price next year due to AI datacentres devouring the supply, lol.

The theme seems to be "reduce operating spending, increase capital spending". We'll see how that will blow over with the opposition.

Online left-wing infighting seems to me to be about applying labels to people because they argue or have argued one thing on a particular topic, and then use it to discredit an unrelated argument topic or paint their overall character. I know there are pot-stirring trolls and compulsive contrarians, but I do witness users I personally judge to have genuine convictions do this amongst each other.

Within US politics, CA Gov. Newsom is an illustrative example (plenty of examples exist too for other countries and around Lemmy/Fedi). I don't particularly like him, he has done things I think are good, some things I think are funny, something things I think are bad and some things I think are downright horrible. Yet I have encountered some users online who will say they can't ever applaud a move of his if one specific other policy or set of other unrelated policies crossed a line for them. I'm not asking people to change their mind on what they think of a person because of an isolated good thing they do, but to at least acknowledge it as a good thing or add nuance describing what about it you like or don't. I can accept saying "I don't think this is a good thing in this circumstance", "this person will not follow through with this thing I think is good thing because ___", or "they are doing a good thing for wrong and selfish reasons" too. But to outright deny any support for an action because of a wildly extrapolated character judgement of the person doing it, when that user would support it otherwise, vexes me greatly.

I know this is not every or most interactions on Lemmy, but these are just some thoughts I have to get out of my head. You don't have to agree with me. I'm using 'left-wing' because the definition of 'leftist' or 'liberal' is wide-ranging depending on who you talk to. And on the side of the spectrum I'm calling left to left-centre, we seem to let the fewer things we disagree with get in the way of the many more things we would agree with each other. That's all, thanks for reading.

I'd like to hear people's journeys and motivations from people who switched over the last few months, and if there were particular challenges that were faced.
