Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The administration has already been blocked from implementing its ban on gender-affirming care in prisons. Last year, three transgender people currently incarcerated in federal custody filed a class action suit against the administration and the Federal Bureau of Prisons challenging those policies. In June 2025, a federal judge granted a temporary injunction requiring the BOP to continue providing gender-affirming care to trans inmates as the case proceeds.

Just in case cis folk are unaware, HRT isn't something you can just "wean" someone off of. It depends upon the person's circumstances of course but for many of us, especially those of us who have been trans for a long time, it can have severe health effects such as osteoporosis. You know, in addition to the fact that it's literally meant to be torture.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 26 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Guess those poor inmates will find out. And it already was one of the worst countries to me, with every new news it gets worse.

Leave while you can, I'd say. It won't get better, the US is in deep-dive-mode to Idiocracy...

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I have an eu passport, I can get my kids one too. One of them is a trans man. They won't go :( I can't leave without them.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Well fuck, that sucks some big sweaty monkey-balls. Especially if you so easily COULD. But why the fuck would any trans (or anything that is not straight and white and born in that stupid country) not want to leave?! Don't they SEE what is happening?

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Wanting and being able to pose different challenges…

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

I never actually tried emigrating. I just live in a country that is flooded from all sides, so I guess it can't be that hard. Probably depends on where...though the US doesn't seem like a place where I would feel safe or welcome being trans. Or at the very least tolerated.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, he loves his home. I can respect that.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Then let's just hope nothing ever happens and shit doesn't get worse.

I did :) And I've been helping others figure out their exit strategy

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Great! And helping is also great :) Where did you end up in and how is it?

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

My partner and I had been preparing prior to the election so we pulled the lever and moved to Canada at first chance. I'll note I already had friends here to start.

Quite simply, we've only received the warmest welcome since we arrived and have since fallen in love with the country and its people. We're both artists and have had zero trouble finding our communities and making connections. I even decided to take the opportunity to speedrun French and have already attained a conversational level (I'm fluent in Spanish which helps a lot)

That's not to say Canada doesn't have its own political issues either, it has plenty of those to go around (shocker I know), but what country on earth doesn't right now?

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

True, all countries are somehow shitty, but you picked one of the better one. And already are fluent at their language. CHEATER! :-) But happy for you guys. Good decision, good pick. At least it surely can't be worse and you're not surrounded by hate.

Thanks for the write-up. Forcefully stopping someone's medical treatment (especially with effects as strong as HRT) already sounded terrible in theory but these side effects and the deliberate intention of torture are scary and horrible as fuck. And yet, the administration and its supporters claim to be "moral"... bunch of ghouls.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

It's also similar to how England tortured Alan Turing for being gay after he helped them in WW2. He was essentially sentenced to receive forced HRT in an effort to sterilize him. He later committed suicide.

[–] EvasiveSpecies@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I've heard some of what they subjected him to... after everything he had done for them he was treated like a 'useful idiot' and then a pest. Abysmal. That's their plan for trans people too - an active and passive genocide (outright killing them or pushing them to commit). I hate the state of the world right now.

MAGA is absolutely out for blood, but even the neoliberals in the Democratic party seem eager to drop support for us as a bid to appease their donors. It's beyond maddening

[–] EvasiveSpecies@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Yup, SO many dems are willing to sacrifice minorities either out of genuine phobia or to appease and win some voters on the right. I know that the wish for 'absolute moral purity' can mess up SO MUCH in politics, especially for dems during elections as far as I have seen. Trans people make up such a small percentage of the population and are ALREADY victimized ridiculously more than they commit any crimes or moral failings and these people just feed into the deliberate misinformation campaign of "violent trans shooters".

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 69 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Cruel and unusual punishment is supposed to be unconstitutional...

[–] Tower@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago

Do it enough and it's no longer unusual, and the law says it has to be both. Such bullshit

That “and” does a lot of heavy lifting, because the courts have decided that treatment needs to be both cruel and unusual. That means that if they do it to everyone all the time, it’s no longer “unusual” and isn’t prohibited.

The Constitution was dismantled a long time ago. The 4th Amendment's been irrelevant for decades they cut so many holes in it.

[–] kibblebits@quokk.au 57 points 1 week ago

Disgusting.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 44 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Courts, you will continue to be more irrelevant if no one enforces their rulings. Existential crisis.

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

That's what the US Marshals are for. They are a police force answering directly to the courts. It's a police force of limited jurisdiction, but an agency executive not obeying court orders falls within that jurisdiction.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Use it or lose it, courts.

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Well that's really cool...

Let's see if they get the Marshalls organized within the next couple weeks. It would be cool to see them arrest a few uncooperative wardens.

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 41 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We told you this would happen if the Republican scumbags were allowed to take power. We fucking warned you.

I'm an American and I care very much. I go to protests. I donate to causes like the Trevor Project. Republican Americans largely don't care.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca -3 points 1 week ago

Those are things you're supposed to be doing during the BEST of times. That's called "participating in democracy."

You're doing fuck all to fight fascism.

[–] X@piefed.world 38 points 1 week ago

Beyond deranged.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 36 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They're working their way up to extermination.

Arbeit macht frei

[–] Melobol@lemmy.ml 31 points 1 week ago (1 children)

At this point. I am honestly surprised they were still given anything.
I mean born americans are getting shot dead broad daylight by government agents.
US born citizens losing their right to vote bc they changed their name for marriage.
Some 'criminal elements' not having approved medical care in a for profit prison system ... I mean wasn't some texas prison saying inmates don't need access to clean water? (even for drinking)

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 13 points 1 week ago

Yeah I remember the days when I thought we were third world because of our lack of universal healthcare. then the unmarked and masked militia started randomly grabbing and killing people on the streets.

Of course they do. Because that's the whole point of this: cruelty. As every other fascist dictatorship, they need enemies. And right now, who are their best (as in easiest to hate and beat) enemies? Yup, lgbtq+ folks and inmigrants.

Expect things to get worse before november and, depending on what happens then, maybe even worse after november.

As for the justice system, yeah. It's about time usians understand the meaning of the words "[usian] police serves the capital, not the people".

The only ones that can enforce the judicial decisions are the police (state, local, federal, any of it) and since they serve the capital (which is the class ruling you), do you really think they're gonna hurt the people they serve?

The US are already a russian-type of "democracy". You're only missing the fake elections but they might be coming in November so hang in tight.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (4 children)

"In defiance of court order". What are the courts going to do about this?

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 week ago

Nothing courts are entirely powerless children. They have no real power. Those who have the actual power are starting to realize that if they just don't listen to them there's nothing they can do.

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Write a mildly worded email.

[–] youcantreadthis@quokk.au 7 points 1 week ago

Find some totally unrelated way to punish the most vulnerable

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Hold people in contempt, put out arrest warrants, and stick the US Marshalls (police force directly answerable to the courts) on 'em?

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It would be nice if they actually did this.

Fuck it. They should just order people released if the government isn't going to follow court orders. And if the administration doesn't released those the courts ordered released, they courts should let private citizens storm jails and free the wrongfully held at the point of gun. All they would have to do is say, "the courts will not hear any cases relating to private individuals using force to enforce lawful court orders."

Then it would be perfectly legal to go and simply shoot your way into prisons to free the unjustly held.

[–] BillCheddar@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

And he wonders why people keep taking shots at him?

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Once again that fucking dictatorship trying to impose its own "moral values" by systematically eliminating anyone who's not white/"Christian"/straight/hetero/Aryan/crypto
