Israel is preparing legal action against The New York Times after the newspaper published an article describing the rapes of Palestinian prisoners in its custody.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced its decision to sue on X on Thursday, after the paper doubled down in its defence of the report.

"Nicholas Kristof’s deeply reported piece of opinion journalism starts with a proposition to readers: ‘Whatever our views of the Middle East conflict, we should be able to unite in condemning rape,'" a spokesperson for The New York Times said.

Kristof's story contained harrowing testimonies of the rape of Palestinians by Israeli soldiers, which included accounts of prisoners being mounted by dogs, penetrated by carrots, and rectums torn by batons.

Remember they exonerated Israeli IDF rapists and then gave then Medals on live television and they are now celebrated figures in Israel.

The entire culture is sick to the fucking core.

[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 78 points 2 days ago (2 children)

They were also celebrating with nooses in the parliament when they passed the death penalty law

[–] 7101334@lemmy.world 33 points 2 days ago

People don't like to hear it but Israel is just a young, technologically-accelerated America, with Christofascism swapped for Zionazism. American families used to have block parties underneath the lynched bodies of black people.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

...which only applies to Palestinians.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

Apartheid state gonna apartheid.

[–] henfredemars@lemdro.id 110 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Maybe this will Streisand effect the reality of the Israeli rapes.

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 53 points 2 days ago

Other newspapers should definitely report that Israel is suing the NYT for reporting about rape in Israeli prisons.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

WHAT? ISRAEL HAS BEEN RAPING PALESTINIAN PRISONERS?

[–] 7101334@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yes, it's been caught on camera.

They have trained their dogs to do so as well, according to Palestinian testimony.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Hopefully the new York Times hs to present a lot of evidence and they don't settle to bury everything

[–] Hacksaw@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 day ago

Israel is trying to figure out what victims snitched so they can kill them and their families. They're not stupid enough to think they could win money, they just want discovery so they can teach those Palestinians a lesson for speaking to the media.

“We can rape anyone we want, and if you try to stop us we’ll destroy you.” -Israel

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"Stopping us from raping anyone is anti-Semitic! Remember the Holocaust!"

ISRAEL

RAPES

AS

A

WEAPON

OF

WAR

AND

GENOCIDE

Get fucked, Zionists.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 43 points 2 days ago

Just really shows you how fucking delusional these God damn ghouls in Israel are. The New York Times just carries their water. As is their history they always go to bat for fascist regimes and they love to cover up genocides they've been doing it for a century. Certainly they've been doing it for Israel. Still though, not enough for those God damn demons in the state of Israel.

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 49 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Sure. Let's go to court and have a mutual discovery session with a public trial.

[–] Footer1998@crazypeople.online 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The judiciary is, by and large, owned and controlled by the ruling class. Don't expect anything resembling justice to come from that system.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

IANAL, but the discovery has nothing to do with the judiciary, it's before the judge makes a ruling and it's public.

It's baffling how it's been over twenty years at this point and still essentially no one with influence has ever heard of the Streisand effect before. Like they're obviously delusional, but it's like their brains are sucked into vacuums.

Israel to sue New York Times over article truthfully reporting its rape of Palestinians

[–] ButtermilkBiscuit@feddit.nl 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I mean, there are literally videos of these Nazis raping a prisoner, they went to trial, the that genocidal state let them off without any punishment. After they returned home to parades and a heros welcome. There were actual terrorist raping a prisoner caught on video - then hailed as heros. Really disgusting scums I can't understand why they even sue. For what? Everyone knows your terrorist forces will rape people. You can go watch the video right now. Wild.

[–] OhioComrade@lemmy.ml 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Is it possible for nations to sue individuals of different nations? Like what court would this be filed under?

[–] ChairmanMeow@programming.dev 22 points 2 days ago

Israel is suing the NYT for supposedly breaking US law. That's pretty typical worldwide. Crime doesn't become legal if you do it to a foreigner, you need a special status for that (like ICE goon for example).

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 days ago

Trump will make it happen, he's a good puppet

skill issue, do you know how I managed without NY times reporting on my rape dogs?

I did it by not training my pets to rape. wasn't that hard

[–] Hello_there@fedia.io 48 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What the fuck is their standing? Reputational damage of a country? Libel against a country? That isn't a thing.
Hope NYT can SLAPP their asses.

Performative. Israel will never allow for discovery or let any leadership take the stand. Everyday I hope for more dead IDF. Every time a Zionist or any religious fundamentalist dies, the world moves closer to reason.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Atheist Zionists aren't any less insufferable, though.

[–] SparroHawc@piefed.world 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

'Zionist' is separate from 'any religious fundamentalist'. Creative interpretation supports your statement. :)

Streisand effect, i trust you

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

I thought the same thing right away and it makes the whole thing seem like a dystopian dark comedy. What a nightmare.

[–] Corvidae@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Curious they're suing the NYTimes instead of the various interviewees.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 36 points 2 days ago

Those they are going to murder.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Silly, they cant murder a news outlet

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

Well, they've been murdering Journalists in far larger numbers than the rest of the World combined.

[–] 7101334@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

You sure about that? Bari Weiss has done a hell of a job. Granted CBS and all other MSM barely qualify as "news outlets", but

[–] cheers_queers@lemmy.zip 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

wont a trial include...you know...an extensive investigation? wait this is murica, mebbe not

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Not if The Times just completely rolls over and shows it's belly.

The irony of suing a Jewish family. Sulzberger Family basically owns NYT

Society really needs to realise that these are racist cultists who sexually mutilate children.

I think there's someone else that needs justice here.

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How much was Israel spending on pr firms to fix its poor image to the rest of the world, and is this just the first step of that plan?
