Not sure how else to title. So basically I currently shop in various stores for work here in a major city in the Northeast US and am seeing huge price increases when stores are re-stocking as well as going through their weekly price cycles for the last 2 weeks.

These batteries are just one example from this morning with a $20 difference, given one being on sale:

I've noticed a huge price jumps and spreads similarly in various office supplies, paper/paper products, cables and flash storage (no surprise), aluminum foil (doubled in some stores it seems), water bottles, gloves, fruit, and other things.

I haven't saw much talk on it other than basic inflation 3.8% that came out earlier today in the news. Nothing on reddit either from a basic search there so wanted to start a thread here to see if anyone else has noticed the differences. I know most people dont shop 3-4x a day so aren't as hyper aware but might see something they may want to share with the group. I've been sharing them and grabbing stuff for personal if I do spot them while out grabbing things for work so I'm pretty stocked up on what I feel might not come back down in those updated priced stores. Most the talk seems to just be about gas which I get is the most immediate expense for majority of Americans but products seem to be jumping drastically.

TLDR: Prices go up, big spread between stores, do you notice?

Idk who is charging $25+ for a four pack of rechargeable batteries. Maybe the tag is for a different product, like one that included the charger?

Every retail listing I’m seeing of that 4 pack is much less

Office supply store I'm guessing, someplace that's priced for p-cards

Purchasing card. It's a special credit card that companies give to employees to make purchases when they cannot issue a purchase order or it is otherwise more convenient to use a credit card for a transaction.

That price at Staples was definitely the highest price. Noticed it while I was in the checkout lane, I just purchased the same batteries for that $5.89 price since I figured that was a already a deal since my last pack was $10 and noticed them at $15 at Walmart last week which it still looks to be that price online for pickup there.

I noticed that a pack of fucking hotdogs shot up to 20 god damn dollars yesterday. $8 was already kinda high but $18.99 is absolutely fucking insane.

We were just grocery shopping yesterday. A big pack is $15 here. Nor.al price two years ago was $6 for a pack with 5 more hotdogs. Less dogs much more cash.

I can find a pack of 6 for 1.25 but they taste like absolute garbage.

Bar S? I got those once when they were $0.60 a pack. I will never get Bar S hotdogs again. I am pretty sure the S stands for Shit.

[–] TheOSINTguy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Found them, and they do in fact, taste like bar shit.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 1 week ago

Gotta respect someone who hears "this was the worst thing I ever ate" and thinks "Well I gotta see for myself if they really are that bad." 🤣

[–] TheOSINTguy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No, it was something else. The gas station that had it stopped carrying it. But these things had to be made of rubber.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

LMAO gas station hot dogs

I'll have to check this next time I go to the grocery store. I did notice ground pork went up by another $1 per lb last week during a price cycle. It was still on sale at my closest store so bought more to freeze. Ground beef has gone up so much they're brought out the big rolls of the 73/27 stuff from the freezers to the fridge section and most the store packed stuff looked bad as if no one was buying when I was there 2 days ago

Pack of batteries like that is £5 in the UK from Tesco (so about $6.50).

Mad that you're paying 5 times more.

[–] Libb@piefed.social 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I always dreamed to use gold plated batteries.

In other words: WTF with that price?

[–] Beth@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

I have noticed differences from store to store on certain grocery items (like 3-4 bucks at most). Probably in a similar area as you. And then massive sales on the overpriced things weeks later.

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

By northeast US I assume you mean the Aleutian Islands at those prices..

[–] akwd169@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Its called price gouging, everywhere has learned from COVID supply issues that some people will pay almost anything for the convenience of their life to not be interrupted

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 2 points 2 weeks ago

Those prices are so fucked I thought this was my country

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

I have found for awhile that sales are massive now. Like things had changed a lot and not sure if its amazon or walmart but the low price thing made it such that prices were not to far from each other in either time or space (regionally) but last year or so its been like looking for loss leaders. Got to wait and look at ads week after week and then pounce on what you need when its reasonable.
