I can see that, but I think I’d be cool with them knowing everything about me as long as it wasted a bunch of their money.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

If that's the case, I don't know what the current landscape is like with them, but I remember reading ages ago about extensions that would click all ads (in the background) for you so that you cost the advertisers money and muddy up their profile on you.

No idea if those still exist or are any good

[–] runner_g@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 days ago

ad nauseum is the extension I think. never used it but it's still around

I run consent-o-matic and Adnausem so I reject cookies and still click on all ads to fuck with my advertising profiles.

[–] Captain_Baka@feddit.org 9 points 4 days ago

I was about to say the same. Fuck them and their ad IDs.

[–] poinck@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

will Adnausem still hide the ads and not render any response?

[–] p4rzivalrp2@piefed.social 7 points 4 days ago

Yes, it uses uBO in the bg for the ad hiding iirc

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

yes it will.

If you want to spite the ad companies use this instead

https://adnauseam.io/

Instead of blocking the ads, it always clicks all of them so ad companies spend money on junk clicks and the profile it builds on you is meaningless.

It also won’t show you any ads.

got anything that just surfs and clicks on its own?

I can setup docker containers with desktops too if that makes it easier.

Just want to flood the network with bullshit.

I block cookies to lose weight

[–] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 19 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Friend - you need to use 4 different privacy-respecting browsers and a VPN to spite ad companies. Browser Fingerprinting is the name of the game now.

Cookies are so 2009. Google transcended caring about cookies and ad blockers more than a year ago.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 18 points 4 days ago

Cookies? Yes I block those. But I also neutralize entire ad domains thank you pi-hole !

Yeah I was gonna say. No one cares about cookies. Even vanilla Firefox has containers tabs by default.

"porque no los dos?"

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

My wife: why do we need a whole home VPN? What are you hiding?

Me: Baby, I work in Infosec. I'm hiding everything. But I'm mostly doing it to make it harder for our ISP to harvest and sell the data I'm paying for them to transmit.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 4 points 4 days ago

She doesnt know how well you protect her.

Keep the fucking' man outta your girl's DMs.

[–] justme@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago

Both is good

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 days ago

You block cookies for either the reason above.

I eat those cookies.

We are not the same.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 3 points 4 days ago

It's hardly a different thing, all the data saucers & brokers are fueled by ad monies, other things don't pay as much (but are still disastrous due to the scales).

[–] NaoPb@eviltoast.org 2 points 4 days ago

Thanks chicken man. Let's all block cookies and ads to spite ad companies.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You know normal people don't know what this crap is right?

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Cookies? Ad companies? Privacy? I think those are pretty mainstream things to know about (at least if you live in a country with regulations on cookies, you get a banner on every website)

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

True. I know of them and what they are somewhat about. However, I would wager most of my employees have no interaction with them other than approving it. They may know it's a computer term, but what it is, I have doubts.
