I doubted the validity of it but there has been news articles. It's the sailors on the ships in the Gulf of Oman who are running out of food. They probably had to forego replenishment because of the sheer unpredictability and chaos in their operations caused by the Trump admin's incompetence.

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Yeah, a good strategic leader of the forces would be looking at supply chains, timing, weather, and more factors than I know about, and all that is ruined by a overriding idiot like trump saying full speed ahead, no wait backup, OK now turn broadside for a photo op

[–] Zebrafive@lemmy.myserv.one 0 points 1 month ago

Likely very true.

I can imagine that the surfacing of these articles will prompt the Executive to blame the Navy, demand a fix and gloat about it when they get replenished and host some big food event event aboard. All while the senior Naval leadership (Aboard) has likely been complaining and signaling about this possibility for awhile now.

Because many people on-board that vessel have encountered likely the exact situation many times over.

Somebody answer. What is that thing?

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 1 month ago

My first thought was fish, but I was already trying to stop thinking about it as that thought was forming.

Looks like a single slice of roast beef or something, plus bunless hamburger.

[–] Zebrafive@lemmy.myserv.one 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I think the roast beef or something is labeled as 'gyro meat' aboard the carriers-experience.

What it is actually made of I have no idea.

The carrier often operates on a 'pay check to pay check' diet. The machine is packed with food stores, ammo, repair parts, etc and then it sallies forth.

The food is cooked, eaten, spoiled, otherwise consumed and must be replenished. Replenishing the machine is a huge phenomenon. Sometimes.the replenishing does not happen soon enough or there is rationing because they know the ritual of replenishment can only happen on x date which is a long way out.

With news articles like the one hyperlinked by someone, im sure the priests of the machine are going to ensure to gather a bountiful replenishment and spoil the men and women of the machine as soon as is actually possible--hopefully.

Yeah it's 100% gyro strips. I've had them in gyro kits before. While they have a less saturated color like spam or other processed meats, I think the lighting angle in this picture distorts it a bit.

They can be really greasy so that's what the light is reflecting. I dab them with paper towels when I prepare them.

Normally it's not served plain, obviously. Usually it's on a round peta with onion, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber sauce.

Edit: Here's an example of what I mean. Sometimes the cheap, hyper-processed stuff doesn't have the frilled edges that most people would expect from "off the cylinder" gyro meat.

Possobly a supplier used:

NBG_01OCT2021.pdf https://share.google/aYTdcIHrVeJ8uB8eW

Processed ITEM 4 GYRO MEAT, SLICED

IQF 1/10# Raw Sliced Gyro - Kontos https://share.google/sgeo3F5VQKKWSl1RD

Hopefully this guy or gal that took the photo had some sauces they smothered on there before eating it. Bringing a few bottles of chicken fil a sauce is always prime.

Carrots, I think a plain hamburger patty but it looks more like a child's science project on mold spores, and what I can only see as part of the insole of a shoe

Big decline since the time of the ice cream ships.

[–] ArmchairAce1944@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

WW2 field rations were revolutionary for the time, and US troops rarely went unsupplied (Axis forces often had missing food supplies all the time. The Japanese and Russians had it particularly bad). But the field rations were often described as being unfilling and didn't provide enough calories as needed. But they were not as bad as many people make them out to be. Granted if I had to eat nothing but those rations for weeks on end I'd be a very sad soldier.

[–] ArmchairAce1944@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 month ago (2 children)

But combat is one of the most calorie-intensive activity you can do. Hungry soldiers aren't good soldiers. Whenever they could they tried to get soldiers meals from field kitchens, even those on the front lines and in active combat. It kept morale and energy up.

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 1 month ago (3 children)

whoosh ... yeah, they mentioned the part about the lack of calories. If war were a cake-walk, that would be much less of a concern.

whats wrong soldier boys, don't like what uncle sam is serving you? maybe they should have made better choices when voting.

[–] Zebrafive@lemmy.myserv.one 0 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Can you expand upon this?

Soldier boys (men and women)

They (all of the people currently in the military? )

All voted for politicians who are in offices now?

Please explain

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Enough of them did, and even more have joined-up recently-enough to know exactly who they would be taking orders from. Your argument doesn't hold water.

[–] Zebrafive@lemmy.myserv.one 0 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Incorrect My argument was asking for more information and the commenter has yet to make reply.

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

No specific commenter is obligated to reply to your non-sense or do your research for you. "Enough of them did" was more info than your "request" merritts.

[–] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Asking to put up or shut up is a fair request. They aren't obligated to respond to that request, but it's equally fair to then assume their statement is rectally sourced.

Americans are bombing the shit out of civilian infrastructure in Iran, based on not liking the actions of an unelected oppressive authoritarian regime. Americans and Israeli's at the moment are pretty much indiscriminate when it comes to who they're killing.

And online, you and many other American supporters whine saying "Not all of us are like that!". No one fucking cares that a minority of your country are sending thoughts and prayers, while your country is bombing civilians and openly, flagrantly, committing war crimes -- LAUGHING about committing those war crimes at your state of the union even. "haha, we destroyed Venezuela's fishing industry by illegally murdering a bunch of innocent fishermen! LOL!". Many of us care even less about how the people complicit in CARRYING OUT those war crimes are being treated by the US government.

"We went to Iran to kill civilians, and they're not feeding us well!". Boo fucking hoo.

[–] Zebrafive@lemmy.myserv.one 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

And online, you and many other American supporters whine saying "Not all of us are like that!".

I am American, I am not an 'American Supporter'.

I agree the 'not all of us are like that' argument is bad.

Im fact I hate that the country is doing what it is doing and has been for so long. It sucks, its embarrassing.

What I am I really saying is that responsibility for the acts of violence, is often attributed to the 'wrong' people. And so I was seeking some clarification.

I would agree with a Dutchman or an Iranian saying 'America and all of its citizens are responsible for the violence, and it is bad'. I can accept this is a fairly true snd congruent statement.

I would not agree with an American saying that an unspecified group of people (individuals)onboard a ship are responsible for the violence whilst they share no responsibility in it, are morally superior and clean.

'CARRYING OUT' also would require some explaining.

If were to host Nuremberg 2.0 for America. 'CARRYING OUT' could mean lots of things.

The fact is that the causality of our acts of violence are distributed---and if we begin to assign levels of complictness to individuals and groups we ought to do so carefully. Voting, for example, is not the only way one can be complicit (or increase their complictness). Agency is a real factor.

Just as an aside, I read this essay from a Russian the other day, especially, "not all Russians are responsible but all are complicit"

Holy crap, they're actually running out of food on those ships? I didn't think that was even a possibility wihin the US forces.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 month ago

Normally when you start a war there is months of planning and prep to make sure all your troops stay armed, fueled, and fed. You don't 'yolo, war tomorrow' and ship eveyone out.
