I don't think that. Your pet knows how to tell you when they want to be left alone, or when they want to play. My fiance's cat uses his paw to push my hand away when he doesn't want to be pet, and I will respect that boundary. When I had ferrets, I would let them initiate snuggles, just because most of them aren't keen on being held. I had one that would sleep in the bed with me, and another that would climb up on my shoulder while I was sitting on the couch and lick my face. I had a cat that would beg to play fetch and meow until I threw her hackey sack.

Agree. Pets are hostages in your house and have no other companionship. Pets should be spoiled with attention and spending time with them, and treats.

It's hard to be excited about going to space when you can't afford to exist on earth.

I saw the movie. It was AMAZING. I had no idea it was based on book(s)!

As someone that had pet ferrets over the course of 2 decades, I 100% agree!

There's a tesla charging station around the corner from me. When I ride my bike home I make a point to scream at the people charging that Nazi's aren't welcome in the neighborhood.

Lemmy, I really would like to hear your opinions on this. I am bipolar. after almost a decade of being misdiagnosed and on medication that made my manic symptoms worse, I found stable employment with good insurance and have been able to find a good psychiatrist. I've been consistently medicated for the past 3 years, and this is the most stable I have been in my entire life.

The office has rolled out the use of an app called MYIO app. My knee jerk reaction was to not be happy about the app, but I managed my emotions, took a breath and vowed to give it a chance. After being sent the link to validate my account, the app would force restart my phone at the last step of activation. (I have my phone locked down pretty tight, and lots of google shit, and data sharing is disabled, so I'm thinking that might be the cause. My phone is also like 4-5 years old, so that could also be the cause.)

Luckily I was able to complete the steps on PC and activate that way. Once I was in the account there were standard forms to sign, like the HIPAA release. There was also a form there requesting I consent to the use of AI. Hell to the NO. That's a no for me dawg.jpg.

I'm really emotional and not thinking rationally. I am hoping for the opinions of cooler heads.

If my doctor refuses to let me be a patient if I don't consent to AI, what should I do? What would you do? Agree even though this is a major line in the sand for me, or consent to keep a provider I have a rapport with, who knows me well enough to know when my meds need adjusting?

EDIT: This is the text of the AI agreement. As part of their ongoing commitment to provide the best possible service, your provider has opted to use an artificial intelligence note-taking tool that assists in generating clinical documentation based on your sessions. This allows for more time and focus to be spent on our interactions instead of taking time to jot down notes or trying to remember all the important details. A temporary recording and transcript or summary of the conversation may be created and used to generate the clinical note for that session. Your provider then reviews the content of that note to ensure its accuracy and completeness. After the note has been created, the recording and transcript are automatically deleted.

This artificial intelligence tool prioritizes the privacy and confidentiality of your personal health information. Your session information is strictly used for the purpose of your ongoing medical care. Your information is subject to strict data privacy regulations and is always secured and encrypted. Stringent business associate agreements ensure data privacy and HIPAA compliance.

Edit 2: I just wanted to say that I appreciate everyone here that commented. For the most part everyone brought up valid points, and helped me see things I had not considered. I emailed my doctor and let them know I did not want to agree to the use of AI. I let them know that I was cool with transcription software being used as long as it was installed locally on their machines, but I did not want a third party online app having access to recorded sessions for the purposes of transcription. They didn't take issue with it.

Thank you everyone!

Abstract

Mammals can now be cloned artificially, but it remains unknown whether they can also maintain their species through cloning. Herein, we continued serial cloning for 20 years from a single donor mouse. These re-cloned mice appeared normal and had normal lifespans, but large structural and lethal mutations accumulated in their DNA with each generation. The birth rate of serial cloning began to decline from the 27th generation, and the 58th generation was the last. When re-cloned mice from near the final generation were mated with males, their oocytes could be fertilized, but most embryos degenerated. However, a few embryos were normalized by meiosis and fertilization and developed to full term, suggesting that mammals rely on sexual rather than asexual reproduction to eliminate genetic anomalies caused by clonal reproduction.

Based on the paper, it looks like there is a limit to mammalian cloning. I sort of wonder if species that reproduce slower, (primates,) would hit the cloning wall at an earlier generation?

God damn, what a clown show.

This note was sent to Epic employees today:

Today we’re laying off over 1000 Epic employees. I'm sorry we're here again. The downturn in Fortnite engagement that started in 2025 means we're spending significantly more than we're making, and we have to make major cuts to keep the company funded. This layoff, together with over $500 million of identified cost savings in contracting, marketing, and closing some open roles puts us in a more stable place.

Some of the challenges we're facing are industry-wide challenges: slower growth, weaker spending, and tougher cost economics; current consoles selling less than last generation's; and games competing for time against other increasingly-engaging forms of entertainment.

And some of our challenges are unique to Epic. Despite Fortnite remaining one of the most successful games in the world, we’ve had challenges delivering consistent Fortnite magic with every season; we're only in the early stages of returning to mobile and optimizing Fortnite for the world's billions of smartphones; and in being the industry's vanguard we have taken a lot of bullets in a battle which is only in the early days of paying off for ourselves and all developers.

Since it's a thing now, I should note that the layoffs aren't related to AI. To the extent it improves productivity, we want to have as many awesome developers developing great content and tech as we can.

What we now need to do is clear: build awesome Fortnite experiences with fresh seasonal content, gameplay, story, and live events; accelerate developer tools with greater stability and capability as we evolve from Unreal Engine 5 and UEFN to Unreal Engine 6. And we'll be kicking off the next generation of Epic with huge launch plans towards the end of the year.

This isn't our first time being here. Epic survived upheavals in 1990's with the move from 2D to 3D with Unreal 1; in the 2000's building console games with Gears of War; and in 2012 moving to online gaming with Paragon and Fortnite. Each time, we rebuilt our foundations and earned a renewed leadership position.

Market conditions today are the most extreme we've seen since those early days, with massive upheaval in the industry accompanied by massive opportunity for the companies that come out as winners on the other side. That's what we're aiming to do for our players, and we aim to bring other like-minded developers in the industry along on the journey to build an increasingly open and vibrant future of entertainment together.

At Epic, we pride ourselves in only hiring the industry's best, so it is very painful to part with so many talented people. The folks impacted by the layoffs will receive a severance package that includes at least four months of base pay, with more based on tenure. We’re also extending Epic-paid healthcare coverage.

For example, in the U.S., they’ll receive paid coverage for 6 months. We’ll also accelerate their stock options vesting through January 2027 and extend equity exercise options for up to two years.

We'll have a company meeting Thursday to talk about the roadmap in more detail.

-Tim

I hope this ends like the movie; with a beheading.
