The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz for three months threatens the food security of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt in the first place, the Security Council of the Russian Federation reported.

In the event of a conflict in the Middle East, attempts by external forces to artificially undermine Russia's food security cannot be ruled out,

The conflict over Iran poses risks to Russia's food security, but it also opens up opportunities for agricultural producers.

If the conflict in the Middle East persists until the summer, there could be the largest round of global food inflation in recent years.

🇺🇸/IRAN/🇨🇳NEW VIDEO: US Announces Blockade on Iran (and China): How & Why This Risks Global Escalation

▪️The US has announced a blockade of all maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz originating from Iran or having agreed with Iran for passage;

▪️This is the full implementation of Washington’s initial objective for waging war with Iran, an oil blockade of not only China but also much of the multipolar world;

▪️The US’ primary geopolitical objective is global hegemony and the only way it can achieve this objective is by dragging the rest of the rising multipolar world down relative to US power and wealth;

▪️The primary means to do this is by targeting the life blood of modern civilization which is energy;

▪️The US has been sabotaging and creating energy crises deliberately around the world including through the invasion of Venezuela, the destruction of the Nordstream pipelines, its own blockade on the so-called “shadow fleet,” and the US CIA and military targeting Russian energy production, storage, and export facilities within Russia itself;

🇺🇸/IRAN - How will the US Implement its Blockade...

For people saying the US cannot approach let alone block The Strait of Hormuz - the most likely scenario is US ships remaining out of range of Iranian missiles and drones and using ISR capabilities to first track ships, then use small boarding boats and helicopters to interdict ships - boats and helicopters Iran has no real means of striking once targeted ships leave the Strait.

These are capabilities I talked about when news first broke of US Marine Expeditionary Units being sent to the region - "coincidentally" MEUs were reorganized under Biden specifically to interdict shipping in precisely this manner.

The US could theoretically interdict ships ANYWHERE outside the Strait, especially since they are specifically looking to disrupt shipping primarily to China - a scenario I warned about weeks ago when the war started and have been warning about for years.

There are only so many routes to be taken and the targeted ships must outrun helicopters and fast boats, not the US military vessels launching them...

There is no need for any US ship to approach the Strait itself.

From Hu Xijin, journalist and analyst from GlobalTimes:

The US blockade of Iran involves China's interests, as China is Iran's largest oil export destination. I believe the US intends to use this opportunity to pressure China to help urge Iran to reach an agreement, although this action is not specifically targeted at China.

My personal guess is that China has been communicating with all parties, either through Pakistan or directly, to promote peace talks. The arrival of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Khalid in China on Sunday likely focused primarily on the Middle East war. Currently, all parties are willing for China to exert more influence.

I also believe the US currently lacks the leverage to provoke China in the Persian Gulf. The US media's collusion with the Pentagon to spread rumors that China is providing weapons to Iran is actually a preemptive measure to prevent China from doing so. China certainly will not provide weapons to either side in a conflict, but its influence is ubiquitous. If the US tries to use this severely stalled war to harm China's interests, I believe China has many cards in the hand to make the US suffer losses.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 The US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is now officially underway.

🔸 15+ US warships in position.
🔸 UK Maritime Trade Operations confirming restrictions on Iranian ports across the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman and parts of the Arabian Sea.
🔸 Trump threatening to destroy any Iranian fast-attack boats that approach: "using the same system of kill that we use against the drug dealers on boats at Sea".

Iran's response: no port in the Persian Gulf or Sea of Oman will be safe if Iranian ports are threatened. The IRGC Navy says any military vessel approaching the Strait of Hormuz is a ceasefire violation.

The ceasefire and the blockade are now running simultaneously. One of them will break first.

So in short, they lost the war a few days ago, and are now trying to blockade... a blockade? Do they realize that this will not give them any of the things they want from Iran? Also, I thought all their military goals had been achieved, but this shows otherwise.

[–] rainpizza@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I think the explanation from Brain Berletic makes sense -> https://lemmygrad.ml/post/11306526/8063671

▪️This is the full implementation of Washington’s initial objective for waging war with Iran, an oil blockade of not only China but also much of the multipolar world;

[–] LeninZedong@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah, so letting the rest of the world suffer while they get to reap the profits afterwards (like during WWI and WWII) is the strategy. I wonder how successful it will be, though.

[–] rainpizza@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hopefully, the US vassals from Europe/Asia and the Global South finally take a stand against the USA. That might help to throw the plan off.

[–] LeninZedong@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Honestly, would not be surprised if WWIII starts after this (American fascism is horrifically toxic and will cause those unwilling to take the toxicity to do something about it).

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago

Who says it hasn't already started? World wars can start at different times in different regions. WWII is usually said to have started in 1939 but that's just for western Europe. In the Pacific and for the Soviet Union it started in 1941. In China it started in 1936, or maybe even 1931 with the invasion of Manchuria by the Japanese. The start of the SMO in 2022 might come to be seen retrospectively as the beginning of this world war. With the subsequent later activation of fronts in Gaza, Lebanon and now Iran. Or maybe it started in 2014 in Crimea. Or 2011 in Libya and Syria.

Key Points from the Speech of His Eminence Sheikh Naim Qassem, Secretary-General of Hezbollah:

– We reject negotiations with the usurping entity. These negotiations are futile and require a Lebanese consensus to shift the course from non-negotiation to direct negotiation.

– Do not distort the facts; we are fighting a clear enemy. This is Lebanon’s war against the Israeli–American enemy, not the wars of others. Our land is being occupied and our youth are being killed.

– Where are the wars of others?

More on:

spoiler

– This is part of a series of free concessions made by the authority, and practical evidence has shown that they are losing concessions that humiliate us and cause losses for both the Lebanese government and people.

– You say you want a ceasefire, but what do they say, and what leverage do you have in your hands?

– This negotiation is submission and surrender. We call for a heroic stance to cancel this negotiation, and the countries will then come running after you. You will establish the use of strength factors in confronting the “Israeli” enemy and compel it to implement the agreements.

– Let the November agreement be implemented, and enough of the authority disavowing and antagonizing the resistance, at a time when it should be supporting it and benefiting from its capabilities.

– How strange you are! By Allah, you neither fight nor allow anyone to fight; you neither confront nor allow anyone to confront. Go and look at the “Israeli” enemy—everyone fights.

– They seek to maintain their occupation and expand their reserves, benefiting from every soldier they have.

– The authority is responsible for sovereignty, liberation, and the protection of citizens.

– Tell us what you have done and what you have achieved? On the contrary, you are wasting.

– If you are unable, then either remain silent or let us cooperate.

– The only path that achieves sovereignty is the implementation of the agreement: a complete cessation of aggression, immediate withdrawal from all territories, release of prisoners, and the return of people to their villages and cities down to the last house along the border strip and Lebanon’s borders.

– Reconstruction must be carried out through an official decision and international support, with responsibility shared by all supporters.

– These five points must be implemented first, and then we Lebanese know how to make our decisions.

– Some ask: if the aggression continues, how long do we remain? We face two choices: surrender—which will not happen—or confrontation.

– Let officials think about how to confront the aggression by all means.

– If anyone is thinking of surrender, let them go and surrender alone; we will not surrender and will remain in the field until the last breath. We will confront, we seek justice, and we present a model to the world that Lebanon—through its army, people, and resistance—is resilient against the enemy.

– They are the ones who are aggressing against us, not the other way around.

– As long as the authority facilitates the aggression, it will continue; let us join hands to think about how to exit this crisis.

– We share with others the view that “Israel” is our enemy, and this is a significant point of agreement.

– The United States, with all its power, criminality, and brutality, says it wants allies to submerge the world in its criminal project.

– We wish that Arab, Islamic, and other countries would agree to participate in confronting aggression and arrogance.

– Our fighters are present in the field, writing the greatest epics, displaying remarkable heroic performance, and we have those who are more honorable and greater than those brave fighters.

– We are unable to accommodate the number of those willing to go to the frontlines.

– They have a connection with Allah that enables them to achieve accomplishments.

– These are the sons of Hussein; they do not bow their heads except to Allah.

– We are victorious from now and at every moment, despite great sacrifices, and we have youth fighting with a high martyrdom-driven spirit.

– Victory means inflicting pain on the enemy—and we are doing so. Victory means preventing the enemy from achieving its goals—and it will not achieve them. Victory means not allowing it to settle—and it will not settle.

– Some of us are martyred while others continue. We are Karbala-oriented; we do not surrender in humiliation but fight until martyrdom or victory, as embodied by Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

– Let it be known and clear: the field has proven that the resistance has prepared itself with silence and ambiguity. The fighters engage in hit-and-run tactics, using various means of resistance, and whenever the opportunity arises, we will capture enemy soldiers.

– At any opportunity, we will capture, and we will fight the enemy from behind, from its right, and from its left.

– We will not allow it to settle; it will live in fear. The resistance, with its capabilities and methods, is not merely direct engagement or border fighting—it is, above all, faith, will, and capability.

– We have no measure of time or scale of sacrifices; our measure is to remain steadfast, keep our heads held high, and liberate the land.

– These settlements will not be safe.

– You demolish homes to turn the land barren and create a buffer zone—this is a grave crime for which you are responsible.

– This will be difficult for you; reconstruction and the return of residents are essential conditions for ending the aggression.

– We have experiences to draw from; since 1982, despite limited capabilities, people eventually returned “against their will.”

– When the army’s deployment south of the Litani River succeeded, it was due to constructive cooperation between the authority and the resistance, and between the army and the resistance.

– When the army deployed, we facilitated it; not a single incident occurred, and the army did not have to take any negative measures.

– Today, when the political authority takes decisions on March 2 and criminalizes the resistance, considering its fighters outlaws, how can coordination be expected to organize Lebanon’s situation?

– This criminalization is a grave mistake, and this government must retract it—retraction is a virtue.

– If you want your country, your homeland, and unity—show us this in practice.

– You have taken a decision and stabbed the resistance in the back.

– I call on the political authority to retract this decision; for us, it is not a valid decision, and the authority has no right to take it without national consensus.

🇱🇧 Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem:

"Our decision in the Resistance is not to calm down, not to stop, not to surrender. We will let the battlefield speak.

We reject negotiations with the usurping Israeli entity. These negotiations are absurd."

Direct negotiations with Israel require Lebanese consensus on changing the compass from non-negotiation to negotiation "and this has not happened. No one has the right to take Lebanon down this path without internal consensus among its components."

🇱🇧 Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem on attempts to create sectarian strife:

"They are starting to promote that Turkey is creating a problem between Sunnis and Shia. Who is working on this? The Americans and the Israelis and Israel's servants internally. They want the strife to be between others, so they can get rid of both.

We with our brothers the Sunnis are one heart. This strife, they will not succeed in it. Israel's servants will fail. We will not allow strife to raise its head.

The Christians of all their sects and the Muslims of all their denominations — Sunnis and Druze and Alawites and all — are our brothers in the nation, in religion, and in the heavenly messages. What unites us is much stronger than the devils of the interior and exterior and the trumpets of strife."

🇺🇸 According to USNI News—the media arm of the U.S. Naval Institute—the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) is operating off Namibia, taking an unusual route around Africa to join a growing U.S. naval buildup in the Arabian Sea amid a U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Instead of transiting the Strait of Gibraltar and Mediterranean, the strike group—escorted by USS Donald Cook (DDG-75), USS Mason (DDG-87), USS Ross (DDG-71), and supported by USNS Arctic (TAOE-8)—is bypassing the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb.

The European Union's member states must coordinate on energy prices amid a 22 billion euro ($25.70 billion) increase in fossil fuel bills since the start of the Iran war, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday.

"We're also looking into ... coordination of member states' gas storage filling to avoid that many member states go to the market at the same time," von der Leyen told reporters in Brussels.

"And we will coordinate oil stock releases, to achieve the largest possible effect, and we will ensure that member states' emergency measures will not impact the single market."

The EU Commission is planning to publish proposals for energy price measures on April 22, to be discussed by EU leaders at their informal summit next week, according to Reuters.

Separately the EU's executive arm will present an electrification strategy before the summer, von der Leyen said as she stressed the need for structural measures to lower energy prices as well.

"We are paying a very high price for our global dependency on fossil fuels, and the grim reality for our continent is fossil fuel energy will remain the most expensive option in the years to come," von der Leyen said.

🇮🇱 Retired Israeli Major General Yitzhak Brik aka Israel's "prophet of wrath" who warned of vulnerabilities before October 7th, assessed the strategic situation as "very bad."

"On the morning of April 4th he says he will destroy their civilization to the ground. At eight o'clock in the evening, he says ceasefire, negotiations. Essentially Trump surrendered."

The goal of overthrowing the Iranian regime failed. As long as they remain in power, they can rehabilitate themselves. Netanyahu wants to finish off the whole world, but he doesn't have an army capable of doing what he claims.

"We never had absolute victory. There won't be absolute victory, certainly not in these conditions. We didn't defeat Hamas. We didn't defeat Hezbollah. We didn't defeat the Iranians."

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful,

Press Release

We salute, in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), the participants in the "Steadfastness 2" flotilla to break the siege on the Gaza Strip, which sailed from the city of Barcelona towards the Gaza Strip.

We also salute the brave activists participating in this great flotilla for their heroic positions that uphold the values of justice and humanity, and their insistence on rejecting the crime of the siege imposed by the terrorist occupation on more than two million of our Palestinian people.

The participation of about 1,000 volunteer activists from dozens of countries in the flotilla, and their insistence on challenging the occupation's measures and its terrorism that it has faced against successive flotillas of freedom and steadfastness at sea; confirms the failure of the Zionist terrorism strategy to stop attempts to break the siege, and demonstrates the justice of the Palestinian cause and the right of our Palestinian people to a dignified life.

We call for escalating the international movement rejecting the siege on the Gaza Strip, especially in light of the continuation of the humanitarian catastrophe created by the fascist occupation, and we call on the international community, the United Nations and its institutions to protect the flotilla, prevent the criminal occupation army from targeting it, and take clear measures to stop the crime of the unjust siege on the Gaza Strip.

Can someone answer what the actual...term for what the US is doing right now? Obviously interdiction vessels trading with Iran is a blockade, but vessels that are trading with Iran who pay a toll to Iran is...what exactly? Is it literally legally piracy? Is it something else? Did no one think that this was a possibility because this is imbecilic?

Edit: or is the US not actually doing that because when should we expect the checks notes commander in chief of the armed forces to be saying the same thing as the armed forces?

[–] GaryLeChat@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think we will have to wait and see what they actually do, it doesn't seem like there is a coherent plan.

[–] Marat@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago

"It doesn't seem like there's a coherent plan" is the slogan of the Trump administration.

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago

Piracy can only be done by privately owned boats not state actors. There is no term for when a state starts stealing privately owned ships. (because its stupid)

What usa is doing is the crime of aggression which is forbidden by the UN charter. They are just saying they plan on committing aggression against privately owned ships of more nations. But since the UN charter is a dead letter there will be no legal repercussions.

I imagine that China and Russia will start escorting convoys. Then some american owned boat is gonna get taken by plausibly deniable pirates and we will likely end up in a world where all shipping will happen under guard.

[–] GracesArms@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago

From what I understand the Iranian blockade took ship traffic from 180-200 ships a day to somewhere around 10. This will take it from 10 to 0. I don't really see this being a massive disadvantage for Iran (not being rampant capitalists the money is nice but they're pretty self sufficient and I imagine Russia and China will dip their hands in their pockets to help). It will keep up the international pressure on USA due to rising oil prices and loss in supply and lack of fertiliser shipments etc. so personally I'm not convinced this is a smart play in the slightest. Think it makes Trump look like a war mongering dumbass even more and doesn't really alter Iran's strategy or strengths.

[–] Ronin_5@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago

Iran is being invaded, and so ships going through their waters are free game / collateral damage.

The US is stopping ships out in open waters. Hence, piracy.

There’s a theory out there that the US is trying to move manufacturing to their country by stopping fossil fuels from being shipped to east Asia and Europe, making the continental US the only viable nation with reliable access to fossil fuels, being a net exporter.

So far, that theory doesn’t hold up to scrutiny.
