This would also be a great way to lure me into a backwoods cannibal trap.

To be fair, it would be pretty effective.

I read this as backwards cannibal. As in you're trapped and forced to eat some dudes.

[–] MarieMarion@literature.cafe 3 points 5 months ago

That's plain cannibalism though, nothing backwards about it. Well...

Very rude to call our home this. There's not just lambs btw, also piglets

The difference is when you have something people actually want vs having to do as much slimy shit as cosmically possible to manipulate people into overpaying for your garbage

I did that exact "hold a baby lab" thing, it's actually pretty depressing. The lambs are treated pretty poorly by the farmer, and there are a few babies kept hungry so if you buy a bottle (€8) they go right for you and drink it.

Overall pretty negative experience unfortunately. I was pretty excited too when I saw the social media posts like this, which is why we did it in the first place

Ah capitalism. Ruining everything and providing nothing in return. As if baby animals need extra motivation to want to eat or be social...

Bah, I can go to the local zoo and hang out with a whole mess of baby goats. Seems like a better deal.

Note to self, go to Ireland some day

I live outside of a mid-sized Midwest city and if you go far enough into rural areas, you will encounter Amish and Mennonite communities.

On at least 3 separate occasions, in 3 geographically separated parts of the state, I've seen signs written on orange poster board, signs for "Yoder's websites" and a phone number.

Amish communities are very industrious, and there are many factories out there. Like the church controls things, but the businesses are private family owned. The people who own the factories, they use mostly modern production methods, and are adept at shipping, receivables, all the trappings of a modern business. Except when Amish people arent at work, they are either at home or they take their little horse-drawn buggy to church/community get together.

The Amish have no interest in computers and may not even be technically allowed them. But a business needs a website. And in comes Yoder, a common Amish/Mennonite name, with WordPress skills, a sheet of poster board, a black marker, a staple gun, and a tall fuckin ladder. And sure enough if you check out some of these Amish furniture builder websites, you might see Yoder's name in the footer

I wonder if this is the same place you can stay overnight at; if so, this is the first time I've seen a random place mentioned on the internet that I've been lol
