A housekeeper.
How much do you like cocaine?
0%.
Gotcha
I prefer wine and psychedelics too.
Wine, champagne, and Irish cream for me.
There are few things in life that good wine can't make better!
I adore champagne, but there are some amazing sparkling wines made in Tasmania that have the French absolutely shitting their knickers
Well worth trying a bottle or two to see if you enjoy them
Did you tell anyone when you won? How hard was it keeping things a secret?
I didn’t. My state allows lottery winners to claim their prize anonymously under certain conditions - such as if the amount is $1 million or more, the lump sum payment is chosen, and the winner is a "natural person" (i.e., an individual). I met those criteria, so I remained anonymous. I didn’t change my lifestyle overnight; instead, I hired excellent advisors, managers, and accountants to help grow the winnings. That made it easy for no one to find out.
How did you accurately determine who really was “excellent,” skill-wise when it comes to money management? So many of those people seem like genuine idiots who just talk a good game to convince people to let them fuck around with their money.
Looked / asked for recommendations + checked their track record. Great reputation people.
Are you happier then you where before winning?
Definitely.
What do you do with your time? Do you still work?
I study for fun, practice my hobbies (which have expanded greatly thanks to essentially unlimited resources), travel, and live a leisurely lifestyle. I no longer work. I have an amazing and incredibly talented team managing my money, and thanks to their aggressive investment strategy, my initial ~$80 million after taxes has tripled in the past six years.
Damn, that’s nice man! Congrats (:
I would be so overwhelmed by having so much money, but you seem to handle it great.
What’s really crazy is that there are billionaires out there with almost, or even more than, a thousand times my wealth - which is far beyond enough to never have to think about money again.
About that, what’s your opinion on higher taxes for rich people?
I’m cool with higher taxes for rich people if it actually benefits the population - like funding universal healthcare, free college, improving public school quality, revamping infrastructure, welfare, etc. The problem is, I don’t really trust our government to manage it well.
Fair enough, do you donate your money?
Yes.
The crazier part is that they just hoard it, rather than use it to make real change in the world.
What does your portfolio look like? Is it mainly shares from companies, is it managed fonds, is it ETFs? Is it none of the above?
A combination of high-growth tech stocks, venture capital/private equity, alternative investments (hedge funds, real estate), growth-focused ETFs / sector funds (AI, biotech, clean energy ETFs), cash / low-risk bonds.
Do you still play?
No. Going from being middle class to having a lot of money made me realize that wealth is essentially like winning the lottery repeatedly. If managed wisely, money keeps generating more money. "Wisely" is the key word here - because you can definitely burn through millions quickly and end up back in the middle class (or even broke).
When you played, did you have a strategy for numbers? Random each time, high chance numbers, numbers meaningful to you?
Random numbers.
Nice, the full chaos mix.
If you were forced to give one million dollars to a stranger of your choice, what would be your criteria to pick that person?
… and let me tell you a little about how I fit all those criteria.
Hey, don't say the quiet part out loud!
I would choose someone who would make meaningful use of the money - whether for education, healthcare, starting a business, or improving their overall well-being. I’d avoid giving it to someone likely to spend it on things like drugs, gambling, or luxury items that offer no lasting value and could quickly leave them back where they started.
How about making their city have more pet capybaras per capita than anywhere else in the United States?
What a coincidence. I'm saving up for a house and would like to eventually take my freelance software business full time but right now, being able to support my partner who can't work a regular job because of severe social anxiety is more important to me. Also, I've never tried drugs or even smoked and don't own a car.
All jokes aside (even though everything in that paragraph is true), really solid answer. Says a lot about your personal values.
How many DMs have you received after posting this, asking for money?
What's your favorite dinosaur?
What's the most expensive thing (or service) that you've ever bought even though you technically didn't need it?
A home cinema with a service that delivers current-release movies directly to my home on the day they’re released. A home gym with a personal trainer. A professional-grade kitchen with a private chef. A private driver. A professional-level audiophile music system at home - things like that. Convenience is the best thing that money buys.
What drew you to Lemmy and/or the Fediverse in general?
I’m a Linux enthusiast - the first distro I tried was Ubuntu 12.04, and I’m currently running Gentoo.
Do you donate to open source projects, if so which ones do you find were helpful for you and why?
What's your favourite dinosaur?
Argentinosaurus
So, how's it going?
Did you purchase anything "silly" or fulfil any life goals?
I can't lie, I'm a little jealous of the freedom, but genuinely hope you enjoy it!
What do you plan to do with your wealth when you pass?
How many tickets would you buy, and how often were you buying tickets before winning?
I almost never buy tickets unless the jackpot is 1 billion +, and at most I spend $5 on it if I happen to have cash and happen to go to a gas station.
