Nobody gives me HDs anymore, Wah! No I'm not insomniac and reading old papers for endorphins or some such shite. It didn't work, but revisiting dot matrix fonts is enlightening

I'll have whatever Witchy wants to order for me, and Witchy can have: a walnut, apple and brie toastie with an Irish coffee

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Witchy will have what SHE wants! Chef, can I please order a generous serve of humble pie for Force, with sriracha if he would like that with it, and some super sweet raspberry vinegar to go with.

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I have to admit (reluctantly) that your choice for my breakfast was actually pretty nice.

[โ€“] Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I wasn't trying to punk you ๐Ÿ˜ญ I was trying to be nice ๐Ÿ˜ญ

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

OK, I'll forgive you. Have a nice breakfast muffin on me ๐Ÿง.

Akshully humble pie is real - can be spelled umble pie - is a savoury meat pie made mostly with offal (the umbles of a beast are the kidneys, liver and lungs). Done well it's delicious. Eat with sharp pickles on the side and a nice frothy beer or three - breakfast (or dinner) of champions. Close cousin of haggis but with pastry not oats and baked not boiled.

[โ€“] Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago

I'll take it, sounds yum. I don't mind a bit of offal

Curse these naps.

Was late with the antibiotics so gave them right after the midnight medsโ€ฆ bubs threw them right back up so I gave her some anti nausea meds and repeated the dose.

Dealing with a spilled milky drink on the carpet too. As much as I soak and blot it up I can still smell it -_-

I wish there was a carpet cleaner that doesnโ€™t absolutely reek of perfume to the point of setting off migraines and causing asthma attacks.

I use the bacterial enzyme cleaner which is less scented but thatโ€™s more for breaking down pee, and doesnโ€™t do a good job of actually cleaning spills.

I hate having carpet. If I could go back in time Iโ€™d buy a washable rug and use it to shield.

Trying to sort computer shit out quick and dirty just to get unstuck.

spoilerWindows 11 machine is completely full so using a Mac to download the classic Linux Mint and waiting a hundred years for the iso to download so I can sha the damn thing and make a bootable usb drive. The old desktop has been backed up a few weeks ago.

Tried to drag a bunch of files onto a 32gb usb off Windows machine to free space and keep them safe but thereโ€™s seriously not enough room for all of it so I might get an external drive just for that to have on top of backups. Otherwise if I can get the desktop sorted soon I can just ferry the most important stuff over.

Then I have to download everything off Flickr and Dropbox and make sure the last gmails get changed over on any platforms theyโ€™re still connected to (or emails theyโ€™re recoveries for).

Today is going to be very busy so that may have to wait

Yay the string of numbers matches one of the approved ones :)

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I am impressed at your mad IT skillz

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Thanks. Theyโ€™re actually extremely patchy because Iโ€™m mostly self taught, I can follow curly tutorials and use the command line with a guide but a lot of the fundamentals have been missed

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

you keep working at it , that's a lot of the reason behind success :)

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago

Iโ€™ll try. Fingers crossed I have time and brain cells

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Yay. Welcome (back?) to the Tux team! I realised how many old photos I still have stored on Facebook the other day. I think un-cloud-ifying is going to be one of my long term projects too. So I look forward to hearing how you go.

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Iโ€™m going to have to do it fast because starting from December Iโ€™m going to lose access :(

Iโ€™ve tried Linux before but not as my main. This is basically to test out and see if I can switch over for most things because I viscerally hate Windows 11

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I've been on linux for years. LibreOffice is prettty good as an MS office replacement. I don't play a lot of PC games so I've never missed that. I reckon you'll be fine.

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Problems might include document compatibility when dealing with organisations and possibly WebEx or Zoom. Iโ€™ll work it all out on this old machine as I get time and energy though. I have a lot of more urgent stuff to do before then. One step at a time

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Yell out if you find any issues. I use Ubuntu as my biz laptop. Zoom and IIRC Webex are ok and I have had to work around document compatibility a bit so I know some tricks :)

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago

Thanks so much. Iโ€™ll probably be asking a lot when it comes time to try and get stuff working

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago

the rain is lovely

Well there goes my trip into the city.

Borderlands 2 and music it is!

Why are the new Myki readers so awful? I'd argue them to be worse than even the first-generation readers with a bad read.

The entire device basically gets locked out on a bad read for about a minute. If your Myki doesn't read properly, or your phone is acting up, a few retries could lock out a big chunk of the ststion gates.

[โ€“] rock@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Yeah, it is slowing me down massively each time. I use a card through google wallet and it used to be so smooth. I am hoping when they enable credit cards I can just let it use my main card and leave it at that.

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The whole myki contract from the first machines has been a clusterfuck awarded to the lowest bidder.

I worked for a place ages ago that had put in a bid for a decent system but the government wanted to save cash.

Hmm the few times I've used them they've been really quick and easy. I anticipate the barcode/QR camera or card payment for entry are going to be a colossal disaster though.

[โ€“] T156@lemmy.world 0 points 6 months ago

They're nice when they work. Problem is when they don't.

[โ€“] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago

Mmmmm, fruit toast

I heard a rumble of thunder.

Nothing like a good fart in the morning.

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago

So far it has been slightly moist. Might do some laundry.

Pain is exhausting. I hope thereโ€™s something to give even a little relief

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Gentle hugs ๐Ÿซ‚ It must be very frustrating for you.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

thanks for the hug

i end up feeling guilty I have to rest :(

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago

I get it. Shit piles up then you end up doing stuff only to feel worse.

You know the drill. Look after you and the boys and everything else has to wait.

[โ€“] tone212_@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Waiting for the crazy weather - Iโ€™m getting more wind now but the sunโ€™s out, itโ€™s not too bad outside.

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It's one of those things everyone seems on edge waiting for it to happen, so it feels like it'll just fizzle out.

I was looking forward to sitting inside watching the rain. I got rained on as I was walking home then it stopped as soon as I got inside.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 0 points 6 months ago

Wind's a bit wild in Ballarat. There is a lot of banging and clanging from mysterious things blowing around, but my fence repair is holding up well so far. No rain, but not much sun either.

The radar map is different. Nooo I liked the old one.
