Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed’s former opponent in the U.S. Senate primary, Haley Stevens, stunned party officials Sunday by endorsing Republican Mike Rogers after Democratic tensions boiled over days before the election that could determine the balance of power on Capitol Hill.

Stevens endorsed Rogers after attending a Detroit church service with him. The remarkable show of support for Donald Trump’s backed candidate in the tightly contested race comes after she was uninvited to a joint event the same day with El-Sayed, who defeated the congresswoman by a slim margin in the August primary.

“Our Democratic nominee for Senate said I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away,” Stevens said video announcing the endorsement. “And he’s right. And that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today.”

So basically what the establishment democrats did to Mamdani here in NYC. Gotcha.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 125 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Democrats would rather dance with Nazis than back progressives in their own party

[–] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 79 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You know who dances with Nazis?

Nazis.

[–] MrNobody@quokk.au 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Remember to vote blue no matter who

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If Haley Stevens isn't going to vote blue no matter who why the hell should I?

[–] Linken@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is how conservatives win. They prey on apathy.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe Democrats should take a page from their playbook so they, you know, win

[–] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yes and she is no longer a Democrat. She is being rebuked by everyone in the party. She has done the wrong thing, and everyone hates her. Well, except the genocide supporters.

[–] marxismtomorrow@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Cool. And this happened with John Fetterman too, right?

Oh.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah everyone hates him too. Except the same genocide supporters.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don’t want to be a Democrat either

[–] Linken@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Same. I was a lifelong independent but all blue ticket voter my whole life. Then republicans repealed Roe v Wade.

They drew a line in the sand and I'm on this side and they're over there so fuck them I registered as a Democrat my first chance after the repeal. Fuck conservatives and fuck pro-lifers.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

They know how the saying goes, if they sit at that table with the Nazis, they're Nazis, and we'll remember that when the dust settles.

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Nazis came in, and a third of the people did nothing when they sat down.

Non-voters are Nazis too, by that logic. Thanks for clarifying.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Non-voters are Nazis too, by that logic.

If they chose to not vote, yes. Not every non-voter chooses to not vote. Voter Disenfranchisement is a massive issue. Whether that's severely limiting voting locations, hours, mail-in options, etc. there are millions of people that aren't easily able to vote like they should and end up not voting as a result.

[–] Enekk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

There is also the long game of under educating a large portion of the population so that many probably don't even realize that there is an election going on or, if they do, how to register or who the candidates are.

[–] waltersf@bookwyr.me 1 points 1 day ago

plenty Nazis in deathcamps then

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Mahmdani and El Sayed are both democrats.

[–] BurgerBaron@quokk.au 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Here's an article from the same month Mamdani won:

https://thehill.com/homenews/house/3841636-house-passes-resolution-denouncing-socialism-vote-splits-democrats/

The resolution overwhelmingly cleared the chamber in a 328-86-14 vote. The majority of Democrats — 109 of them — voted with all Republicans for the resolution, while 86 voted against it and 14 voted “present.”

I don't think these guys just said this and didn't plan to sabotage any social democrat campaigns.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

nah she took 70mil of aipac money, and her husband is also aipac recipient. she was planning from the start as a maga.

[–] supersquirrel@lemmy.ca 31 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

The DNC/establishment democrats need to go, they do not form coalitions in good faith.

edit obviously vote for al-sayed regardless

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Man, you guys are trying real fucking hard. Known shitbag has sour grapes and turns and suddenly she represents 85% of the democratic party.

  1. Get Republicans and Neo-Nazis out.
  2. Fix Citizens United
  3. Fix the Neolib/Corporate part of the Democratic Party.

One comes first. Haley Stevens being a shitbag doesn't change that.

I would love nothing more than for Republicans to be rendered irrelevant and for the two parties to be replaced by the DSA and the neolibs. Just be a little strategic in how you go about that. (I worry you are being strategic, and it's not for the benefit of DSA.)

[–] BurgerBaron@quokk.au 2 points 1 day ago

Fix the Supreme Court too while we're building a wish-list.

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah but I gotta feed the kids so I can't do politics, which means someone else has to fight for their future. /s

[–] bss03@infosec.pub 5 points 1 day ago

The DNC is not a leftist organization. They do just enough to get our votes.

I'm all for strategic voting, but if something like the Working Families Party or even Sunrise Movement is in your area, they are better organizations to support especially if they endorse someone during the primaries.

[–] apftwb@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No endorsement from Gov. Hochel.

No endorsement from either NY Senator.

Disgraced former Govener Andrew Cuomo running as a spoiler candidate.

Andrew Cuomo being endorsed by Trump in the 11th hour of the election over the Republican candidate.

Yep.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

establishment democrats

The problem with phrasing it like that, is the neoliberals can lose NY state party just like they lost the DNC.

"Establishment" is just who controls the party, which can be changed.

NY, Florida, Maine, California, there's a bunch of state parties that neoliberals control. But as more progressive get elected, the more say they have in who leads those parties.

[–] bss03@infosec.pub 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Didn't the DNC change rules in recent memory to prevent progressives (or leftists) from getting leadership/controlling positions in the party?

It wasn't a rule change, but taking advantage of a "proceedual issue" to overturn a vote: https://political.org/2026/08/03/david-hogg-addresses-democratic-partys-future-amid-calls-for-him-to-lead-the-dnc/

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

That election was held by the DNC under Jamie Harrison.

The chair Buden appointed, and then Harrison appointed Harris as the candidate.

The incoming chair saw that Harrison fucked it up, and said they were going to re run the vote.

Not campaign mind you, the ~400 voting members who had just voted for the chair and Hogg on the same ballot would just re-vote.

There was no reason for anyone to expect the result to change.

Hogg however, refused to sign a piece of paper that would have put him on the new ballot. He just refused to.

That's what actually happened.

And I can't think of a reason why Hogg declined to put his name on the ballot, except he didn't expect to win and didn't want to win.

Because all he had to do to win again, was put his name on the ballot
