I think that the Soviet Union would still be around today if Andropov didn't die. He wanted to shift the system back to Stalin's vision, and that could've made all the difference. There wouldn't have been any perestroyka or glasnost under Andropov.
If I recall, they died very shortly after becoming the leader of the Soviet Union?
Yes, only a year and a half into his tenure. He was already practically medically incapacitated by the end of the first year.
Damn, that is awful. Do you know how that happened?
Andropov was just old; nothing much else really too it. His age exacerbated diabetes related conditions he had which caused renal and kidney failure. At that point there wasn’t much that could be medically done for him.
Hun? I assume that was an accident (and what you said makes sense, but it is still a shame).
I meant him, my bad, I love autocorrect.
But nope, you might be thinking about Lin Biao who died in a plane crash.
No I meant your typo was an accident.
And that’s why I am specifically talking about them. Also I’m pretty sure Chernenko was also (literally) dying in his first year.
we really could've been living in a different world today
