Human rights organization B’Tselem has issued an urgent warning regarding the escalating eviction of Palestinian families in the Silwan neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem. As of April 2026, approximately 1,800 residents are facing forced displacement, marking the most significant threat to an entire Palestinian community since 1967. These evictions are being facilitated by court rulings under a discriminatory 1970 law that allows Jewish settler organizations to claim pre-1948 properties while denying similar rights to Palestinians.

According to B’Tselem, 33 families have already been forcibly removed from their homes in the Baten al-Hawa area, with another 53 families currently at risk. Simultaneously, mass demolitions in the nearby al-Bustan district target an additional 1,450 people to make way for settler-run archaeological parks. Local community leaders and human rights advocates describe the process as a systematic campaign of demographic engineering designed to erase the Palestinian presence in the holy city.
