A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

I heard someone say that they turn off video recommendations on YouTube now with an extension, so as to not waste time and only see their subscriptions. I think it's time for me to do the same

If you put a bit of effort into curating your suggestions, they can be quite useful.

You guys use recommendations?

I have two YouTube accounts and I use recommendations on both. I almost never see garbage on my homepages because I don't watch garbage and use the two "Don't Recommend This" buttons when I see something I don't like.

One is just music (work computer) and every once in awhile it'll suggest AI or a genre I dislike but I'm talking like twice a month. And I use it every week day

This feature is actually built right into YouTube. I found that if you disable your watch history, it refuses to show you any videos on the home screen. And as an added bonus, it blocks you from the Shorts tab as well!

I've been using Newpipe for ages. It doesn't really show you recommendations, just your subscriptions and on a separate tab a list of generic new popular videos (trending stuff with millions of views). You can absolutely ignore that too. Anyway, I haven't seen AI unless I specifically search for it, which is nice.
