who needs podcasts when you can get a cab?

side note, how do people get into podcasts? they are all just dudes talking to each other. it's so boring

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

Most podcasts aren't even dudes talking to each other it's more like talking over each other so they can be the center of attention, I hate the annoying loud group of men half screaming bad jokes at each other trying to be funny and fake laughing

[–] panathea@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 10 months ago (2 children)

It helps if you have interests

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

sadly when I do have interests, those podcasts are just small talk with a tiny dose of actual info about my interest.

I'd rather watch a 4 hour essay about said topic than 40 minutes of some dudes chatting unscripted

I can't seem to find a podcast centered around endlessly scrolling social media sites.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

There are plenty of podcasts with women, you just have to scroll down a bit

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

no offence, but at best they are still boring.

it's just people yapping.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

That's literally all human communication.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

and most of Shakespeare etc

Clearly you just need to listen to dudes talking to each other about Star Trek instead

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

only if they actually talk about Star Trek, rather than doing smalltalk.

$0.02: much like AM radio (is/was), it's basically a "2nd screen experience." Put it on in the car or while you're doing something else. Most of these do not deliver enough information or laughs per minute to demand your full attention. The exception are programs that are meticulously scripted, narrated, edited, produced, and sometimes acted, like NPR and the occasional oddball thing like Nightvale.

You find the ones that aren't boring and listen to those.

Of course they're just people talking to each other. It's an audio-only medium! Some of them are boring and some of them are entertaining.

Have you never heard of talk radio? I feel almost like I'm explaining music or movies to somebody who's never heard of them before.

I enjoy Breaking Points which actually covers current political news critically https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LkUaBttFtg

[–] AlDente@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Heck yeah, Breaking Points is awesome! I especially like the episodes hosted by Ryan and Emily.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I love Ryan but Emily is truly as snakey as it gets. She will change her position based on whatever show she's on. And she refuses to say on Breaking points what she says elsewhere. At least Saagar isn't changing his position based on whatever talkshow he's on and he's racist everywhere.

[–] AlDente@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

Oh, interesting. I don't watch a lot of politics media, mostly just Breaking Points, so I haven't seen her on any other platform. I'll look out for her appearances on other shows. Thanks for the insight!

They are many types of podcasts. Just got to find one that fits your interests and captures your attention.

[–] RamblingPanda@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 10 months ago

I once had one that constantly switched radio stations in like a five second cycle and farted on the whole ride. I'd take even the most boring podcast over that.

Side note, I'm listening to a true crime podcast at the moment, and I really do enjoy it.

Maybe try "If Books Could Kill" - it is two dudes talking but they're both hilarious and the episodes revolve around reviewing airport/shitty books. Their relationship/interaction is great.
