exactly. im just spitballing but there should be a kid only Neocities website or something that is anonymous with pre-selected prompts you can send to other kids, no DMs or personal pictures allowed. kids and teenagers on instagram/tiktok is like kids of the early 1900s smoking a pack a day. and of course active parenting limiting how much time they spend online. as a kid in the 2000s, our bare bones sites was enough to let us feel involved with the world and still use the internet safely.

evil personified indeed, known as early as 2008: Why You Should Beware of Facebook

anyone else have this issue? browser crashed twice just now trying to post and use the site, nothing else is running on my OS that would have caused the crash. monitoring htop suggests its only this tab, Im on Firefox 147.0.4. browser is also slow when I go to sort comments by top, it will freeze my OS before loading. just curious if this is a known issue or not

I'm currently watching the not just bikes video "why google maps fails in Amsterdam" and....I just feel like a masochist (and lowkey a c*ck). Living in the US, we have completely let car manufacturers, energy companies, and all vested third party interests build our cities and roadways while lawmakers are bought out and legal action stalls. Watching this pragmatic design of bike only streets, trams next to bikes, removing shared lanes in favor of an expanded garden of all things. It really hurts to watch but I can't look away. I feel like a cave man living here and I just needed to rant about it.

I have had the privilege of moving to NYC next month and will finally get rid of my car. I am nervous about the adjustments in terms of convenience but deep down I couldn't be happier. I'll never forget the feeling of enlightenment when NJB explained to me something I felt my whole life growing up in a place wholly dependent on cars (the drive to school was 7 min, a walk home was 45 min). I also got into an accident recently because of how fucked up the design of a roadway was. I just can't wait to finally live car free.

Benn Jordan really is goated. I wish he had an independent website with all of his videos and guides, but I get wanting to reach a larger audience.

It's easier said than done. But you have an advantage speaking a foreign language.

the importance of local, community run mesh networks is growing by the day. We need to make this the norm going into the 2030s.

I'm into making a blog about tech and art. The tech side being about teaching normies how to circumvent censorship and be anonymous or private, how to escape algorithms, and a personalized resource wiki and archive.

The art side is about the intersection between tech and art, AI art appropriation, raves and social justice, and some light electronica blogging.

I know of no one else irl that is fascinated by this stuff, let alone both simultaneously. None of my artsy friends are into the tech stuff, and the one tech friend I have knows nothing about this stuff. It gets lonely as both a tech and art nerd but I'm so filled with passion making this from scratch. Also the landing page will pull from a collection of liminal spaces, political cartoons, Y2K imagery and have the logo rotating back and forth. I think its pretty cool, very rigorous and time consuming to build though.

it will be called zoracle.life

"liability" being a euphemism for artificial scarcity. Ever seen those videos of employees forced to cut up perfectly good clothes or that girl fired from Dunkin for donating donuts they told her to throw away? they need to keep their prices up and destroy their own product to do so.

My partner's grandmother has passed and has left a collection of hundreds possibly thousands of DVDs. These range from official releases to pirated and bootleg copies.

What would be the best way to digitize and archive this collection? Is there an external device out there that will let me burn and convert the DVDs? I'd want to possibly upload on archive.org if the copyright expired, store on backblaze or maybe another digital archiving site besides a regular torrent, would appreciate any recs on sites and advice in general. I haven't gone through these yet but figure the project would be a fun learning experience.
