Joules are already a unit that people use in daily life

Some people, sure. You and some in your close circle of acquaintances likely use it.

Not once have I ever needed to measure something in joules. I suspect that many people, if not most, don't use joules in daily life.

I quote it almost daily

The installed files are not an installer. What you're referencing is moving the preexisting program files of a game

If you're looking for Harmony level usage and have a pretty penny to spend, look at SofaBaton. Programmable universal remote with hub, and there are home assistant integrations for local control.

What're your thoughts on SodaStream?

Oh I more than understood your question, as much as there was one. I'm taking the piss out of you because your question is more of a rant than anything else.

Move somewhere else if you don't like it. You live in an industrial area. As do I, where the trains stop traffic multiple times per day since we have lumber yards here. And we all deal with it because we chose to live here.

The fuel costs of having the train do what it does, even though it's an inconvenience for you, will certainly be substantially less than them catering to you. That's by my estimation though. If you have data showing otherwise, let's take a look at it.

That's a separate issue. You asked a question, and an answer was given.

I bet that your city is used to having trains, seeing as they're pretty major infrastructure, and had the good sense to have multiple police and fire stations on each side, thus not negatively impacting their response times.

Have you called the station managers or whatever to file an official complaint? If not, you're wasting your time complaining here.

How do trains save fuel

By reducing the number of freight trucks on the road

Second gyroid infill. Doesn't take much longer, and doesn't scrape against itself while printing.

And also general tuning with a calibration cube. Verify temps and extrusion values, the usual.

Yours is so much nicer than mine!! I got this one made for our little studio apartment, but we never really used it so I didn't bother polishing it up. The temp on the fridge is the apartment temp, and the lights are visible buttons, but I love your invisible buttons and will follow how you did it if I end up doing it again!

I've been in this situation for a few years now (Working from home, wanting to share screens between devices).

KVMs and HDMI Switches are what to look for, as others have said. Scenes aren't something you're going to get cheaply, but you've still got options. For reference, I currently have three 27in 1440p monitors.

The first one I bought was a cheap 2 HMDI IN->2 HDMI OUT that worked pretty well. It's straight 1-to-1 matching, you can't mix and match what goes where without actually moving the cables, but it was great for having my main and right monitor be easily switched between my Desktop and Work computers. My left monitor is just for my desktop so I can multitask.

It died after a couple years and I upgraded my main monitor to my first 1440p which it couldn't handle anyways. I wanted to use my main with Display Port so I got a 1 HDMI IN->2 HDMI OUT for just my right monitor. Center monitor has multiple inputs so I just use the screen's buttons to switch.

My current monitor setup I literally setup this week. Each has multiple HDMI and DP inputs and it takes just a few seconds to switch each one with its built in switcher, and I honestly think this is the way to go.

After a few years of doing it, I say if you are able to, prioritize nice monitors with multiple inputs and use their built in systems for switching. A few more button presses, but that's just a few seconds of time.

Hello! I'm working on my home server trying to get some networking problems solved, and out of nowhere my nginx is suddenly being hit from this instance tens of times per second. I'm at several thousand lines in just 10 minutes. I'm still new to networking stuff, trying to learn what I can. Is this normal?!

Edit: For some background, I used to roll my own instance, but as I wasn't very comfortable yet with network security and all that I pulled it down. This was maybe a year and a half ago. I get lots of lemmy instances looking to check in, since they think my instance still exists, but this is a bit much...

Edit 2 to fix the photo

Edit 3: I'm reading that returning 410 Gone should tell the instance that mine is permanently gone, so I'm going to set that up in nginx. According to pull #5256, since I'm returning a 4xx error more than 3 days it should have already stopped.

Update: programming.dev seems to be respecting the 410 pretty quick! I installed Grafana to finally see some network stats, and hopefully lemmy.world and .ml will respect it as well in the next couple days (Stats started recording when the container went live, and .dev stopped pretty quick afterwards)

Over the last few years I've gone through a couple Logitech MX Verticals. My current one does technically work, but just like the last one the cheap rubber coating has started disintegrating and is pretty nasty at this point.

Anyone have good recs for a vertical mouse that won't start crumbling like a dry cake in my hand? I'm not picky on buttons or anything, just work with a bunch of spreadsheets at work. The vertical mouse is just much better for my wrist.

Hello mechanics!

I've got some coils and spark plugs that need replacing (Along with likely needing to send my ECM in for a repair). I've verified that they're the likely culprit of many of my issues with my local mechanic, but wanted to verify with more internet experts on what to buy.

From what I understand, Motorcraft is the recommended OEM, and I've no problem spending the money if that is the right direction, but I wanted to see if any of these "Premium" alternatives on RockAuto would be a good or better choice, such as the Hitachi with "Magnetic Shield for EMI Protection" (A common cause for ECM damage in this make/model apparently).

Thanks in advance!

RockAuto

Update with solution at the end

Hi all! If there's a better community for these questions I can post over there instead.

I'm not new to linux in general, but I am new to gaming on linux. I finally ditched Windows and installed Debian 12. I've got propriety Nvidia drivers installed, Steam's installed and I've only checked one other game so far (Palworld, working flawlessly).

Monster Hunter Wilds is just giving me a headache and I'm not quite sure how to troubleshoot it, whether it's something on my side (most likely) or something else. I can get the game to start using Proton Experimental (bleeding edge), it does it's graphics/shader thing, gets past the branding, and then freezes on the "Initializing Network" screen.

I've looked through through the ProtonDB and tried various launch options that were recommended, but still with no luck. I'm actually locked out for 24 hours because Denuvo sees switching Proton versions as trying to reinstall on multiple machines, so any potential solutions will have to be tested once that lock resets.

Happy to provide anything needed, logs or whatnot. Might just need to be pointed in the right direction to find those.

System Info:

  • Debian 12 (bookworm)
  • Kernel: 6.1.0-32-amd64
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
  • RAM: 32GB
  • GPU: RTX 3060 Ti
  • GPU Driver: 535.216.01

Edit: Finally got things working! Turns out that the Debian repositories don't have up to date drivers, didn't realize that going in. Fully removing Nvidia drivers and manually installing the latest version from Nvidia (Following this guide) has me playing again! There's a few visual glitches that I need to see if I can get fixed with some mods, but if anyone is having similar issues then it may be a driver error!

Now I need to learn how to play it...
