Welche Rolle spielten Student(:innen) und studentische Verbindungen für den Aufstieg des Nationalsozialismus? Welche ideologischen Übereinstimmung gab es schon lange vor der Machtübernahme 1933?
Toby Eisch referierte zu diesen Fragen und Korporationen im Allgemeinen vor 1945. In der Diskussion gibt es außerdem einen kleinen Ausblick.

Die Bildung in Deutschland nimmt ab, obwohl immer mehr Geld investiert wird. Matthias Brodkorb (SPD), Ex-Bildungsminister von Mecklenburg Vorpommern, meint Deutschlands Schulen leiden unter einer Tyrannei der Gleichheit. Alle werden schlechter – gerade die Besten.

Brodkorb hält das Versprechen, jeder könne alles erreichen, für eine Illusion. Menschen seien nicht gleich – schon genetisch nicht. Die Politik ignoriere das und produziere Reformen ohne Ende und ohne Wirkung. Für Brodkorb braucht es mehr Ansprüche und weniger Gleichheit.

There is a recording making its way around Arab intelligence services this month. In it, Mahmoud Abbas, the 89-year-old president of the Palestinian Authority, serving twenty years into a four-year term, expresses quiet satisfaction that Saudi Arabia was struck by Iranian regime missiles during the war. He says, in the coded language Palestinian politicians use when they think nobody is listening, that the Saudis had it coming.

The Palestinian commentator Ahmad al-Attawna put words to it on Arab television:

“The Palestinian people clearly have no leadership, and I’m not speaking metaphorically; even in reality, there is no true leadership capable of presenting the Palestinian people with a vision or a sense of where they are headed.”

That is a Palestinian, in Arabic, to an Arab audience, saying the thing Palestinian intellectuals have been whispering in private from Amman to Ramallah for years.

It is an idea imposed on you by people who want you to believe something that is incontrovertibly opposed to reality. You have power. You have power to build a family for yourself. You have power to build a career. You have power to read what you want, to listen to the music you want. You have the power to build the community you want. And if you so choose, you have the power to help build the country that could ensure a rich and exciting future.

You can choose not to use that power, but you have it.
