CachyOS, KDE, 5800X3D, 6900XT, 32GB RAM, PCIE 3.0 NVME, latest Proton_CachyOS 11

It works quite well. At the start i have to tab out and in again so the game doesnt stay black. All the launch option i found for the game in the past days pretty much didnt do anything or introduced other issues from my experience. So i have none implemented atm.

I get the asset streaming stutters/timestretches mentioned in the article as well as soon i dial in the geometry and texture details above "high". Which is a bit weird since a X3D chip and 16GB VRAM shouldnt have issues with texture streaming at all. But it still looks great on high and tbf my 4-5 year old hardware has no issues playing in 4k60 on high without upscaling. Cant complain. RT crashes the game but RDNA2 doesnt do well with RT performance either way.

Recognition of my controllers is a bit weird. With some launch options i tried i couldnt get my controllers working. Xbone Controller needed some fiddling with the Steaminput options.

Game only supports temporal AA solutions. FSR3 and Xess are shit as always. FSR4 INT8 via optiscaler crashes the game atm sadly. The TAA in FH6 is pretty good though. It doesnt smear or has obvious doubling artifacts. Just a bit soft and that typical TAA "look" which i got used to pretty fast.

I also tried GE-proton-10-34 which at first seemed to be a bit more stable and less stuttery before i narrowed it down to the texture/geometry detail settings. Setting the performance level to "highest clocks" in LACT might(!) help with stutters a bit too.

For the game itself: Its more of the same with a much improved map. I'm mostly happy that we got finally a full highway loop and a lot(!) more curvy and interesting to drive roads. Progression and story still sucks. Those festival wrist bands are just some make-up on a pig. It feels the same compared to past titles in the last 10 years. I played maybe 6-8 hours. Dicked around mostly, barely done any racing and already have like 50 cars and 2 million credits without the progression boost of the premium edition. It is what it is. Story, characters and writing are still painfully bad. Its worse than just nothing since you cant even skip the cutscenes. Just shut the fuck up you soulless fucks. At the start you still get constantly and forcefully stopped in your gameplay because the game needs to tell you something like you're a baby. I'd love to see a slightly hidden menu option where i can confirm that i'm a big boi and already played a game once before.
But yeah, still the best racing game in recent years. Great handling cars, fucktons of cars and content, great looking and optimized graphics. I will put in my 30-50 hours and be pretty happy.

So leicht anders Scheiße eben.

I have a SN30 Pro and i havent used it much since probably '18 or '19 but the rubberized sticks completly dissolved already. I have 30 year old PS1 controllers in the basement where the rubber held up better. You can buy replacements for a few bucks though! Not too happy about it but its okay i guess all things considered.

I have a Gamesir G8 for emulator use on my phone. It has obviosly nothing to do with your use case but:

It feels over all rather cheaply made. Those slidey rings around the analog sticks are some of the worst i dealt with on a controller especially for its initial high price. They became unsmooth after like a month. They have a history of rather shady practices with their android apps and emulators. So keep that in mind maybe it applies to other offerings from them too.

Otherwise i have a Xbone S/X controller (with blutooth but not the series ones. ms naming schemes suck so hard) and its alright. Feels great in the hand. But build quality is below the x360 pads i had. Works with linux most of the time but its the only bluetooth device which just refuses to work every now and then. Sticks are pretty imprecise.

Dualsense: Its better in almost every aspect than the Xbone controller and i really want to love it. But its just not comfortable in my hand. I get cramps after like an hour.

But they both have some years left in them. So i have no experience with all the new fancy hall effect offerings. Good luck!

Answer: It has nothing to do with half life, valve or whatever. He just doenst like to work with long established lore because he then gets yelled at by people who remember stuff better than him.

Yes.

A... friend played online before release on linux with a PS5 controller. It felt sick, he said.

So it begins. (hopecore)

Hello!
I'm using a G27 with oversteer and new-lg4ff. Archwiki entry for Logitech wheels: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Logitech_Racing_Wheel

Its working great and especially the oversteer GUI and UX is an huge improvement compared to that awful Logitech Windows drivers for that wheel.

My only issue is that the button mappings are wildly different compared to windows. Most games which support a wheel come with pretty good presets for the G27 which are nullified by the different button mappings on Linux. Remapping all the inputs in a game is a minor inconvience. But eg Dirt Rally 2.0 doesnt let you reconfigure buttons to navigate the menus. With that i'm stuck with confirming menu items by shifting into 6th gear. Which is additionally cumbersome because my shifter is worn out af and doesnt recognize inputs half of the time. Maybe there is some .ini of the game to manually edit those buttons but for now i want to leave that option as my last resort.

I already found out that you can reorder the mappings by dragging the buttons on a UI to the "correct" position with jstest-gtk. Which is alright if you have to do it once. Sadly it isnt persitent after reboots. Doing that dance everytime isnt exactly what i'm looking for.

So to finally ask my questions: Is there maybe a different way to remap those buttons persitently and globally by editing a file or with a program i havent found yet? Most remapping tools i found seem be made for keyboards, mice, xbox pad etc and often create an emulated output device which may conflict with the FFB from my understanding. If there isnt another way would it be possible to write a little script to automate the actions i do in the UI of jstest-gtk so its just a one-click solution before i want to use the wheel? Where would i find information how to do that?

Thank you!

Edit: Alright, i atleast fixed the physical shifter. I regreased it a couple of years ago and as it turns out i maybe have overdone it a bit. Cleaned up most of the grease and now every shift is beeing recognized again. Its also so much louder now.

I played through that game the first time just a year ago. So there isnt even some nostalgia involved with this track. But damn does it slap. Its just brutal.
