This is also why SMTP is such a fucked up protocol. It was designed so that you could just follow the email protocol by hand. HTTP as well followed this philosophy (up to 2.0 at least). A decade or so ago there was a bug in outlook where you couldn't have a line with only a period in it because that's the end-of-email signal in SMTP.

The supreme court decided that getting money in exchange for services rendered is OK, and that influence peddling is fine.

The court case that decided this was an asshat that gave a government contract to a company, went to that company and asked for money in exchange, and they gave it to him and the facts of that wasn't disputed. The US supreme court said that's fine, so now a bunch of people are getting their corruption cases re-opened because the US supreme court didn't think it should be illegal.

In addition the supreme court also said companies can give money to a senator after they've won an election (to "pay off debt") which is just a way for people to buy influence.

The citizens united case made it so that companies can just buy influence. You can't however, since for normal people there's a limit to how much you can spend, but companies can just spend as much as they fucking want.

The US is incredibly corrupt, and it's in the open.

This is so fucked up. They know the thing they built is shit, and they refuse to go back on it, so the hack shit to make it seem like it's less shit.

We had a Svelte application. We chose svelte because it's simpler than React is, and it's much faster. However further down the line a consultant said to the CTO that we should move to React. I said React is more complicated and has more edge cases, and its slower, but the consultant said more people know react and it has a bigger community, so we switched to React. This was fairly early in the project. React has sooo many edge cases. It's not made with async in mind, if you forget to add a [] to a useEffect it just breaks your application completely instead of doing the more sensible thing, it says "don't use useEffect" but there's so many "except when" that you end up using it everywhere regardless. Later on the CTO got all in on Claude Code, so we spent the easter holidays rewriting the app in Svelte. Except a few bugs it was feature complete by that week and in production a few days later.

It's much, MUCH faster now, and the code is much simpler. We lost absolutely nothing by moving back to Svelte but gained a lot.

Edit: not that using either of these is sane thing to do in the start menu. The start menu should not be a web application.

Lite was made for Manifest V3. They had to drop a bunch of features to get it functioning which is why it's called "Lite".

Yeah, imagine if you let your gasoline powered lawnmover just run around in your yard just to see what would happen and you just left it for a couple of days in the anticipation that eventually your entire lawn was cut only to find that it also ran over some kid. The lesson from that wouldn't be that your lawnmover is just too good.

Yeah, that might have been the goal, but they can't state that publicly. Instead "we just didn't pay attention to what it was doing and let it spend thousands of dollars of compute that ended up in a crime". That's not the defense that they think it is.
