But for some odd reason I keep seeing this story pop up on random sites at least monthly this year.

The mask/pretense is slipping off...
Until someone else shoves it back in position when the midterms get closer....
He already is king in everything but title...
- Stands above the law.
- Makes his own laws.
- Nullifies laws that don't suit him.
- Takes "gifts" for favors (political and personal).
- Pardons whomever he pleases.
- Has his friends and family ingrained in government.
- Holds a court of sycophants.
- Plans to stay in power indefinitely.
- Meddles with election results.
- Tells the people his appointment is an act of God.
- Will choose/appoint his successor upon his death.
- Denies words of the leader of the Catholic church, as if he stands above them.
- Renames landmarks and architecture after himself.
- Refuses to be (de-?)elected out of office.
- Has his own armed forces outside of a standing army.
What was that about the army being politically neutral?
This will be quite the ride in 2028 when trump won't go away.
trump just about is king in all but name:
He stands above the law.
Holds his court with his chosen sycophants.
Writes edicts and decrees for those below him to live by.
Hands out pardons only to those who please him.
Takes "gifts" and makes them his personal property.
Claims his status to be divine and scolds religious leaders.
Demands to have a ballroom, and most likely wants another palace after that.
Erects monuments and renames buildings in his name.
Is normalizing that he does not have to leave his position.
So, yeah, when will he just claim the title of King to get it solidified?
He will not leave regardless.
None of them can leave, they know they'll get drowned in a lot of problems, from investigations to lawsuits.
It's like the situation in Iran, trump thought he'd throw a few bombs and the Iranian regime would just start writing resignation letters.
But they can't leave, if they do they'll be lynched by the oppressed people.
The same goes for the current US regime, even the identified ICE-soldiers will get in trouble when the regime falls.

Trump knows science, he knows the best science, it is great! Far better than those losers, that's why they had to go, so unprofessional, no good for America.

If an enemy actually comes they will defend one another ... but the suspicion lies in that only the US just goes meh, not interested.
On top of that, trump seems to reason to himself that he is being attacked by Iran, and therefore NATO (which is a defensive only alliance) is supposed to help, which it is not.
Trump attacked Iran... for dubious reasons worse than the Iraq debacle, so the allies who trump already spat in their faces have no interest getting pulled into his war whatsoever.
This is trump's war on all fronts, not NATO's, and does not come with a moral contract to let him use any other countries' assets if they disagree.
The situation would change dramatically if Iran actually did attack a NATO member.
Let's not call it the regime's private army ....
There was an (android) app to translate cat meows a few years ago ... granted it was a bit frivolous, though they claimed underlying research.
The translation it produced of my cats meows into what they might want was plain low quality, the meows were easier to understand than the word soup produced. (Tying to get the cat to meow on command is a whole different factor)
