poison is generally bad but if it kills the cancer they call it chemotherapy i guess! ha.
station wagon superiority
i need an electric station wagon goshdarnit!!
hell yeah homie!!!! \o/
I LOVE that for you! Good on you!!
as long as you show up on time every time, follow basic instructions and are willing to learn, and also de-escalate drama around you, you'll stand the strongest chance of nailing it down.
YOU CAN DO IT!!
I don't blame them honestly ^^;
it probably sounded like i was bragging and it IS hella rough out there...
but although i had a lot to say about why i enjoy this job,
what i REALLY want to impress upon others that they can have a place in it too, if they don't mind strange hours on inconvenient days.
(but bruh seriously thank GOODNESS it seems like nobody else wants to work weekends, because having tuesday wednesday thursday off is fuckin CHOICE--i can run errands, do doctor's appointments, visit a bank, go shopping, all while businesses are actually OPEN without having to take time off work!! :D plus TWT looks like a crying wolfy face and that's cute...!)
I would love to see more people climbing aboard and being the Big Damn Heroes who set things right when greed, hubris, and an irrational trust of hallucinating chatbots derails mission-critical assets. All the while as you're either assigning tasks to specialists in a cozy office making a reasonable wage or being the boots on the ground in the field changing big business' diaper for HUNDREDS of dollars per task, you can don the smug shit-eating grin of "we told you so" and THEY'LL say Thank You Sir May I Please Have Some More! :3
You may have different goals than mine, perhaps you've already found what you're looking for ... but if you are still searching, I believe that the most stable forms of employment soon shall be the aforementioned industry of "Unfuckery".
Y'see, if there's one thing we know about all that clanker slop bullshit ruining our economy, it's that its alleged competency cannot be trusted. Especially in scenarios where things have gone an unexpected way... because AI as it currently stands is 'trained' on the basis of regression to the mean: most of the time, shit ain't fucking up. Whenever it encounters any unexpected exception, and there is not sufficient examples in its training data of dealing with such a contingency, that's where we get silly garbage like "recommended rocks per day for pregnant women to eat" and "recipe for a pizza that includes white glue".
Whenever it does that, a human has to swoop in and fix it.
Whenever a human is stranded in some way that AI cannot handle because it has no capacity for actual creativity but rather just a firehose of contextual regurgitation of stuff that already exists, a human has to swoop in to fix it.
And whenever a company's systems crash because they depended on slop code shat out by a hallucination bot without actually knowing how it's even supposed to work or what it really does, you better believe a human has to swoop in to fix it, and they'll pay almost any price to get their income source rolling again.
So if you can find a place whose job it is to answer that call, you're going to have plenty of work to do. Or, even when there isn't a ton of work to do, there's always another big stupid clusterfuck of incompetence just around the corner that will need SOMEBODY -- not SOMETHING -- to Step UP.
You Can Be "Somebody", Comrade!
(that specific type of somebody, i mean; i know you're already somebody and you have intrinsic value!)
You can have a front row seat to big corporate eating their words.
"AH! Glad you brought that up, because I have FANTASTIC news for you: I've already done it! Because I am productive and prepared. I get things done--and you could really use someone who shows up on time every time right about now. At this time, I'm still a mere potential customer of yours, but employers who accept me into a position also commence receiving the benefits of my following of instructions and due diligence effort to learn my role PLUS as a bonus total insulation from workplace drama: I know how to leave drama at home as well as neither create, nor amplify, nor reflect it in the workplace."
honestly bro if someone showed up in my office with that kind of energy I'd be emailing the owner of the company asking him to hire them right fucking now. people who know how to do the most basic shit AND ACTUALLY WILL DO IT are worth a lot more than any "highly skilled and experienced" diva who never answers their fucking phone when they're on call or totally flakes out from their scheduled shift once a week like clockwork.
Have never been legally accused or convicted SO FAR...!

I lucked out super hard...!
I have a job where I've accepted getting paid less than I probably could get elsewhere in exchange for having little to no oversight working alone at a desk with a relatively light workload that can leave me with whole nights where nothing happens at all and I get to watch anime, chat with my friends on discord, and play video games on my laptop!
I work the night shift over weekends in a position where I:
about 80% of requests make it past step 3, (sometimes we don't have the service or equipment available)
about 60% of requests then make it past step 4, (sometimes customers don't accept the terms)
about 90% of requests then make it past step 6 (sometimes the fellas are burnt out and cannot safely do it).
so whenever the phone rings there's a less than 45% chance I'll end up having to go through the entire sequence
although sometimes tasks that actually get to step 7 have multiple contingency follow-up communications during handling.
As far as I've been told, the most valuable thing I bring to the table is that i'm a creature that is nominally sapient and conscious that is willing to be both of those things on the days and during the times no one else wants to be
and on top of ALL that,
the office is in a LITERAL basement!
My inner goblin is LIVING THE DREAM.
These jobs exist! YOU CAN FIND THEM! Look for businesses that say they have "24 hour service" and specialize in UN-FUCKING SHIT THAT FUCKS UP--you can be the person who coordinates a lot of unfuckery, which feels really damn nice and helpful and useful~! :3
offer to take overnight weekend shifts and commit to:
any sane manager would hire you on the spot if they believe you can do those three things...
because you'd be shocked how often extremely experienced, skilled personnel can't do basic shit like that.
piefed.social/u/QuantumStorm@lemmy.world has it right, i believe - but i'm ashamed to admit that i only know that because i had to look it up after originally hearing it from ... a fanfic, of all things.
So I have stolen what was already stolen! The writer of said fic was making a direct WH40k reference
(the fanfic in question is "Shinji and Warhammer 40K" and i cannot possibly describe the appeal of it more adequately than TV Tropes did.)
honestly TRUUUUUUE!!
This is the case with pretty much all collective entities, they're all cut from the same cloth:
businesses, sports teams, fandoms, private clubs, political parties - they're all manifestations of tribal instinct and one of its """features""" (which, in this very synthetic habitat we've created for ourselves can become quite maladaptive if not toxic) is the displacement of personal accountability.
I'm saying, yes, groups are not moral but people can be moral - and I am hypothesizing THAT is why.
Parallel processing has enabled humans to do absolutely incredible things.
But it has also enabled humans to do truly heinous things too.
Bystander effect, "just following orders", toeing the party line, passing the buck, riding the bandwagon... I think it's not enough to teach people that only people themselves are capable of making moral judgments, but that we absolutely should also teach people that abstract gestalt entities that we become part of, that we allow to subsume us, are not.
Even the ones that aren't outright evil are only so by the individual decisions of the people it comprises--through either luck or mindfulness--steering it away from brutal shortcuts that spend others' lives for the sake of its own perpetuation.
It's kind of ironic though that the people who decry "groupthink" the loudest are the ones that seem to be doing it the most. I'd sure like to think that we'll learn to do a better job of identifying that blindspot (which such distributed collective entities exploit to enhance their own survival odds) and countering it, then teaching the next generations to look for it and counter it too.
... if we'll even be around to see any generations that may exist after us.
probably getting shouted down by the french policymakers who made this decision along the lines of "Apple is an American company too and we're SICK OF AMERICA'S SHIT"
