Running trained LLMs has, more or less, always been profitable. Inference can only run on one GPU efficiently, you know the size of the model, you know how long it takes... etc.

Inference is approximately as expensive and environment destroying as Call of Duty, which don't get me wrong, is a waste of humanity for sure.

Model training however...

I think the shamful euphemism 'she rides around town on a broomstick' is now fully, and permanently, worn out.

Which is why you use an electro-magnet.

You energize it, allow it to snap to the car pulling it forward slightly, then disengage it and use a motor in the arm to reset it to it's original position.

SIM cards/personal payments are pretty secure. Several generations more so than internal banking systems.

I was just reading a report on this and tracking down a credit card thief when they can only spend that money when it pings their location is... pretty decent.

The mistake is thinking that security comes from some kind of techno wizardry instead of the ability to unceremoniously kill the thief the very second the value of what they've stolen exceeds the cost of killing them.

I think you will find VERY few people willing to argue Sam Altman isn't a cunt, probably including the man himself.

The math situation really, really, urgently, isn't what is reported on this message board. Not even close. Those dominoes are really starting to fall.

We're past the point where faffing about on a message board means anything.

It is highly unlikely, but possible, that the majority of the people you are talking to are wearing clothes they made themselves without aid of machine.

It is highly likely, that at least one person reading this DOES believe we should destroy all the factories and return to the trees.

How they manage to have that argument on the internet without imploding due to cognitive dissonance is beyond me, but I have seen more impressive feats of confusion in my days.

Please send me a web app you have made without the assistance of a computer. I will wait.

I have a degree in electrical engineering, happy to decode, DM for the address.

It's very similar to learning how to use a computer in 1995. I'm just old enough to remember meeting these people.

There is this thing, which, supposedly, can help you do your job better, it's being pushed by management, and it is sometimes expensive, often confusing, and obsoletes the skills you spent years to acquire.

Fast-forward 30 years, and it's very, very, very difficult to find people to talk to who still argue computing doesn't belong in the workplace, and that using a computer isn't essential for virtually all work.

The reason it is difficult to find these people, is because they were left behind.

There aren't any eugenics under the hood of Idiocracy. You're thinking about genetics.

Eugenics is the idea that we should breed human beings intentionally, which is never proposed or discussed in the film.

This might be the most evil thing I've learned about this year.
