Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

This is a very common hypocrisy among first gen US immigrants. I'm a good Irish, not like those dirty ones coming over now; we should keep them out.

Pulling the ladder up behind you is an American tradition!

Or "I might be Irish, but at least I'm not an Italian" to not make yourself look better, but to make the others look worse

I think the phenomenon is called something like “closing the door behind you.”

Add the South African dude who was slashing our government and stealing our data.

Surprisingly tolerant of a literal foreigner stealing all of their personal records.

Murdoch is certainly AU's worst export product to date.

[–] Aurenkin@sh.itjust.works 23 points 10 months ago

Indeed, please don't date him.

Yeah but he's a white foreigner, that's different... but you know, it's totally not racism...

Americans (the European land robbing ones) used to lynch black people as a past-time well before Fox News became a thing.

Americans (the European land robbing ones) used to lynch black people as a past-time well before Fox News became a thing.

You are describing both the Fox target demographic, and the attitude that Rupert Murdoch wanted to foster and grow.

Billionaires and reactionaries have no state.

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 0 points 10 months ago

Billionaires and reactionaries are the state. They are the ones who created it in order to control others for power and out of fear of what they don't understand, respectively.

People need to abandon it and unite under our own social structures that aren't built on the ruling class' hierarchy of wealth and perceived status.

But they're rich people who abuse the system for their own personal gain. It's only bad if poor people do that.

Americans love that global capital telling them how to feel, they larp it in earnest as if i is part of their identity and politics

[–] j4k3@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Stupid people are universal though. Every country has them. In the US they have been weaponized. Many of us are very much opposed to the stupidity.

No doubt but americans are the greatest at everything!
