Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I really want to transition, but fuck I would love to have England gone. What a dilemma

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

I have good news for all my fellow england haters as i am not trans. No more jk rowling, scotland gets freed, ireland is whole again, everyone celebrates, probably even the british who just fell into the sea randomly.

[–] Egonallanon@feddit.uk 60 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I mean as a nation we kind of deserve it.

[–] azalea_flower@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 2 days ago

Yeah it's only fair to be honest

[–] maya_s_trojan@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

...is there a former Empire that doesn't deserve it?

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

[–] azalea_flower@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

lmao it's all good don't worry, I only really like it for London, otherwise I wouldn't have any reservations. I've thought about it and I can't live anywhere else in England to be honest, it all sucks too much, I'm very lucky to be born here.

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

We can form a coalition, since all of us are no longer on registries anymore :3

[–] e8d79@discuss.tchncs.de 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The Monkey's Paw curls and the UK government announces that, due to the advice of a well known children's book author, England will be renamed to "Terf Island".

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 2 days ago

Nooooooo 😭
My sisters...we lost 😔

[–] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago

Is there a both option? I want England gone more, but I'd settle for both happening on an accelerated schedule than normal.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago (8 children)

Make sure it’s just England, leave Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland alone.

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

the uk becomes an island chain of ireland, scotland, wales, and brighton

They are the original boat people

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

My (supposed) ancestor William Wallace would be very disappointed if I didn't destroy England.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

As someone who doesn’t feel any sense of gender, I’m not sure what would happen if I tried to transition. It’d be like dividing by zero. England might not survive either way.

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Huh. Have you seen Vihart's video on gender? She's a whimsical popular math video creator who feels similar.

TL;DW: She doesn't "feel" gender. She doesn't identify as agender though, she just "doesn't identify". And I think she's oblivious about pronouns as a result but historically, her feminine presentation makes "she/her" seem the most appropriate, and since she refuses to weigh in AFAIK, I'll continue to use them for practical reasons (people expect such person to be referred to as "she"). I wonder if there's a better noun/adjective than "agender" though. Maybe "gender-oblivious". This has been a brief summary, please do still watch the video though

Well I already transitioned, so congratulations Scotland and Wales

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Is it like perfect transition, or just that I get to skip the waiting lists but it's still what modern medicine can do?

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I'd say perfect transition. Either way, if your country of residence stops existing, I'll welcome you here! It's just an hour flight away :3

I mean, I'm not trans, soooooo goodbye England. Sorry England, but also let's be honest, you deserve this.

[–] DarkGamer@piefed.social 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (5 children)

I'm not trans, l but I'd keep a stiff upper lip and grow a nice set of tits to save England.

Death to England!

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As long Ireland is unaffected... Sure let's go :)

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Ireland is cool, it stays :3
England's gotta go tho 😂

Fun fact, my last name is Irish...and that's why all the people I meet keep messing it up and mispronouncing it, lol
I like Ireland 💚
