Why not just use GIMP? I don't really use image manipulation and editing except for extremely basic things, so maybe GIMP has some important limitations I don't know about.

GIMP is as robust as Photoshop, although from scratch or transition may be harder to use? paint net is a middle ground.

I think GIMP intentionally forced upon itself different methods to Photoshop which was a possible mistake, users migrating to GIMP can find it foreign and unnatural and drop after a few uses and return to what they know. They should maybe have Winuxed it a bit more.

Eh krita better but yes

Does gimp support CMYK now? I’m a professional designer and that’s one of the reasons I didn’t use gimp. If you’re designing print media for a million dollar company, or if you want to do it right, you need to grade the colors correctly. By using rgb pics for printing you have no control over what the printer spits out. Also: if you’re using the visuals for more media than online banners, like video, it’s just so much easier to import PSDs to After effects. When you’re paid by the work and not the hour, you can’t afford to export every layer from gimp to import everything to a different program and redo all the stuff you already did. Time is money

You can already do soft proofing and use ICC profiles in GIMP. There are also plugins. And seems like more CMYK features are under development.

3.4: High-end CMYK support

[–] ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

No fucking clue...like i said I only use it for extremely basic hobby editing so it may have limitations I don't know about. But a simple web search suggests that GIMP indeed can support CMYK.

Or you could use paint.net and NOT support data centers destroying the planet.

[–] Gmork@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 weeks ago

For real! It's partially what keeps me coming back to Windows. I yearn for the day when Paint.net can be ran on Linux.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Last time I tried using Paint.NET (early last year, I think) it had significant feature gaps compared to the likes of Photoshop, Krita, or Gimp. It's a good start. And I know it's an open source project that's dependent on contributions and funds. But if you need to edit images beyond some relatively basic features, it's not there yet.

Anything but slop.

[–] communist@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not using this doesn't help with that though? It is already released, telling them not to make it would help but it's too late now?

[–] SarahValentine@pawb.social 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Because this behavior shouldn't be encouraged.

[–] communist@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz -2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

disagree, if they reimplement this as foss software and it crushes adobe it will be nothing but a good thing, sure ai overall is bad but ai was happening anyway and minimizing the harm of it by using it for actually good things for the foss movement is the least problematic possible thing to do with a highly problematic tech.

[–] SarahValentine@pawb.social 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Minimizing the harm means not using it. AI output doesn't come out of nothing. It's generated at significant ecological cost.

[–] communist@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They were going to use it anyway. The notion that your boycott will accomplish anything when the tool is this unbelievably useful is insane, fight this at the regulatory level, furthermore the ecological impact is quite minor if you use Chinese ai due to the solar farms.

[–] SarahValentine@pawb.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

"It's already done so might as well accept it" is the most fascist coded braindead bullshit I've ever heard about this whole AI thing since it started. Congratulations. Also blocked.

Every action can be taken via the cli too, this makes video editing ai saas the next job to get strangled.

Prompt: here’s my footage I’d like it in the same edit style as youtuber yakkah at 25:00 long.
