It's really fucking good. Control is my favorite game ever. And this one is right up there.
Alan Wake 2 took over a year to turn a profit despite being a genuine Game of the Year contender
Yeah it was Epic exclusive so no surprise there.

Not just Epic exclusive, funded and published by Epic. It will probably never come to Steam, or at least not for a very long time.
And despite liking Alan wake and control, that decision has permanently offboarded me from their franchise because I refuse to use EGS. oh well!
That's only the case for Alan Wake II. Control Resonant is self-published and available day one on Steam.
Does it capture the same ~vibes~?
Very much so.
There is decent crossover. There's an OOP from Alan Wake in the panopticon in control. I think I heard there was more in the DLC? Ahti also makes an appearance in Alan WAKE 2. They are all in the same universe. Alan Wake is basically just another AWE to the FBC.
Is there a difference between vibes, ~vibes~ and ^vibes^?
I’m only like an hour into the first one. Does the combat to cutscene ratio ever increase? I feel like I’m watching a movie. (One where the dialogue makes no goddamn sense.)
Yes, there will be a lot more gameplay than cutscene after the first hour.
Yes the first game just keeps getting better. You keep getting new powers too and they're really fun to use.
It’s an Epic exclusive I don’t feel salty about because iirc they said the game would have never happened without Epic. I’m not sure why but the games seem to not attract a lot of buyers, despite always being loved.
Meh. I think it really sucks they ditched Jesse as the PC and I lost all interest in it. So unless she becomes the PC again later no one's doing to convince me to buy it.
It actually pisses me off that they created such a popular and interesting female main character and then immediately zapped her for a literal manbaby. Meanwhile captain monotone Alan Wake and generic angry guy Max Payne both get franchises to themselves. Remedy can get effed as far I'm concerned.
Jesse is in the game, fyi. You just don't control her.
I've only played a couple hours so far so I really don't know, but it seems like she might play a large role in the story.
I know she plays a role in the story but I really enjoyed playing as her and don't want to reward remedy for ditching her. I'm glad you're enjoying it, however I'm just not interested in control anymore.. which sucks because it was a unique game.
Maybe someone will make a mod that swaps Jesse and Dylan haha
I think I get why they did it. It sort of mirrors the "one sibling is (possibly?) in trouble and it's up to the other sibling to get to the bottom of it and find/help/whatever them" that they did in the first game.
I personally kind of agree that I'm not really a big fan of Dylan and would have prob preferred to keep playing as Jesse. At least not yet. I'm gonna put a tiny bit of faith in the devs that this opinion will change as I play through the story.
Makes me kind of think about how furious people were about The Last of Us pt. 2 when they find out they have to play half the game as Abby. A character that the events of the beginning of the game push you to absolutely despise.
But when you give the game a chance to show you what it's trying to do... Goddamn it was a masterpiece. I was full-on weeping for like the last 4 hours straight of that game.
So I dunno, I'm gonna put a little trust in the devs hoping that they know what they're doing with the main character swap.
I do not buy many games at launch; but Control left such an impression on me that I just felt compelled to buy this.
I didn't play Control when it came out. I played it years after. I am actually glad I waited to play it because I would have felt like I waited even longer for the sequel.
The differences between Control and Resonant are quite vast; but overall I feel that a lot of the same atmosphere and energy carried over. I was hesitant about it not following Jesse like the first game, and was worried that it wasn't going to be as good. However I am 10ish hours into Resonant, and I am loving it.
I guess I will see how I feel after I beat it.
Similar.
I bought Control because 'i have a brand new 3070, and want to try raytracing, and the game is on sale for $30", and now its one of my top games of all time. Loving resonant, very different style of gameplay (hack and slash vs slower paced horror), but god its good.
But sure makes my 3070 feel old, having to really drop the graphics down to medium to even play it.
I for some reason cannot get good performance with RT on in the first game. I am rocking a 3090.
The second one, I also run without RT. Everything maxed out, with DLSS + FSR and I get 100+ frames on average.
I quite like the hack and slash parts, even if at times it gets extremely frustrating.
Never had much trouble with Controls rqytracing with a 3070
But my card is struggling hard with it
Apparently, if I force DLSS Model K, it should help, instead of Model E/F that Legacy uses
I will have to investigate running different DLSS modes. I am not on Windows; which could be part of it. But this could still help! Thank you for the share!
I really need to beat control. I've started it so many times but something always happens in my life so i leave it. Playing Control is pretty much guaranteeing someone is going to die.
I also want to start control, but I need to finish Alan Wake before I started it years ago.
im playing Control Resonant right now.. But am already planning a AW - Control - AW2 - C:R replay
The first was so awesome with a game world being a claustrophobic labyrinth, female lead who shoots a gun and has unlockable abilities.
As someone who loved the original because it was essentially a third person metroid, will I like this one?
If you like the world? Probably. This is going to have a very different vibe being visibly mele focused. But Manhattan patterened in on itself looks plenty claustrophobic. And the gravity mechanic along with the rest of the mobility mechanics look like it will be a blast of a sandbox.
I loved control and Alan wake 1 (although that was years ago and I don't think the gameplay holds up anymore).
I'm hesitant to pick this up because I can't imagine it maintaining the same atmosphere as control being this big third person action adventure. I imagine the cut scenes still being good but while playing it you don't get the same SCP vibe as Control. If anyone has comments on this I'd love to be persuaded, as of right now it's a wait until deep sale for me which I wouldn't have believed about a Control sequel.
I’ve only played a few hours so far, but I can say that what I’ve played so far was fun as fuck lol. It’s a different play-style than the first, with this one focused on melee, but the combat is pretty fun. The atmosphere is still very weird in the best way Control started, but it is slightly less SCP like (I haven’t seen the huge amounts of reports of strange objects and such) but I’m only a few hours in so idk how the rest of the game looks.
Huge fan of their games. But I do agree that the vibes aren't the same as the first.
Control 1 is like the first 2 seasons of Fringe or Twin Peaks. But Control Resonant is like the last season of Fringe. Take all the weirdness and weaponize it to make an action adventure.
It's a lot of fun regardless.
It has definitely traded some amount of atmosphere and story for gameplay elements, but imo that is a nice progression for remedy as the balance was bit off for the previous games. So far I think it is fantastic! The cityscapes are stunningly cool and mindbending. I have easily spent three of my 24 gameplay hours just reading documents in-game. It has all the same fun elements of control but with a nicely balanced and engaging hack'n'slash system. Not too combo heavy but lets you string together abilities and basic weapon combos for a ton of fun smashing. Definitely recommend.
even pirates
That explains why Fit-Girl Repacks is taking so long
It was released 9/25? Unless you mean the download.
This is going to learn 'em to ever fall for the epic exclusive grift again. Last year they were whining about how they might have to shut down because alan wake 2 sold poorly.
What kind of game is this? Like an fps or?
I'd say it is more akin to Devil May Cry than any Souls game.
wait hold on did Remedy accidentally stumble onto a good combat loop for this one?
I'd say so. It's been pretty awesome so far. I have a few tiny complaints about the camera and enemy targeting but other than that it's fun as hell.
Melee focused souls-like, set around a secret government organisation that catalogues and controls paranatural objects, people, and events.
souls like
Eh I'm not sure about that, though I've only played a couple of hours so far.
Shares more DNA with something from Platinum imo. This is not meant to be a judgement on the quality of the game as I generally love Platinum's games.
Edit: maybe a better comparison would be the modern Ninja Gaiden games (though not as difficult. Not yet at least)
It's definitely not a soulslike. There's no stamina, you don't have to commit to attacks (can interrupt them mid swing by dodging). There's double jumps, dashes, no estus, no bonfires.
souls-like
And like so, all my interest in this sequel is gone. Really liked the first game, bit cannot stand any of the souls games combat.
It's not a soul like. Like at all.
And it's not all that different from the combat in the first game besides being melee instead of gun
