Animal Farm and 1984 are the next circle of Read Another Book Hell after the TERF wizard series.

Shit, so bad the CIA had to finance the film production out of their propaganda budget.
It was required reading for me in 8th grade, I think we read 1984 and Lord of the Flies as well. Just a general high effort year for liberal propaganda on behalf of the local ministry of education.
IIRC it just shows how a capitalist business runs but forces it into a "this is anti-communist" hole.
There's a good Red Sails article on how the book shows disdain to the working class. On how they're dumb and just obey.
I think I read it for the first time at age 7 or 8. Apart from being anticommunist, I'm glad I read it as a child because it wasn't teenslop. It steered me toward being interested in political books instead of Harry Potter. 1984 at age 10-12 was a similarly good book for getting me into superstructural studies since it's a neat world and at least makes you critically think about things like language and police states, and I think I benefited more from reading that than I would have from reading something more teenslop like Hunger Games.
The problem is when an adult reads it uncritically. It is a book for babies. It has talking animals that I imagined as cartoons so that my baby brain could keep track of the words. Being a Cartoon Adult is the most dangerous way someone can build their worldview regardless of what the cartoon is. When a liberal brings it up unironically it's like they're making me debate them out of thinking Spongebob is real because the Bikini Atoll is a historical basis for the show.
You hit the nail on the head. Reading Orwell's writings as a late teenager had stunted my political growth for a while.
I read it once in elementary school, long before I had any pro-communist sentiments. Later, in high school, I had to write an essay about a book I found influential in order to get into AP English. There was only one problem: I had forgotten George Orwell's name. I recall writing about it like "Animal Farm, by the person who wrote Animal Farm...".
I did not get accepted into that AP class.
thats where the disdain for art started right?
i looked over the plot and if 1984 was some bullshit about life in the USSR and other states then animal farm just seems to be some bullshit about how revolutionaries lie to the people
