Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

That's a bunch of fans for the cubs, so yeah.

[–] DickCaramel@piefed.social 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There's no such thing as Cubs fans, there are only Wrigley Field fans

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 week ago

I'm an ethnic Cubs fan, but not practicing.

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

It's Cubs, not White Sox

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He wants you to buy them outside of the stadium.

[–] allidoislietomyself@lemmy.world 43 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I had to look it up but $300 would get you 15 to 25 beers depending on the size and type of beer

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The cheapest, smallest beer you can get is $12, then.

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Which would be sort of reasonable if it was a pitcher/jug. But we know it isn't.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Even at a regular restaurant or bar, a beer is gonna be like $6 or $8.

Maybe 30 years ago you could get a pitcher for $12 if it was happy hour or something.

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah I don't think those prices are reasonable either.

But... I don't drink anymore, so what do I know.

In Switzerland (admittedly one of the most expensive places on earth), 15$ ish for a jug is quite normal.

[–] criticon@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Usually the cheapest is a big can of bud light or similar, I think they are 24oz

Draft and craft beers are usually $2-$6 more than the bud light for 16-20oz, so $12 would actually get you the biggest at most stadiums

[–] TheShamMirrors@lemmy.today 32 points 1 week ago

Now that's pretty gangster. Didn't think I'd see people acting like that ever again

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

First I visualized it as a single $300 bill, which woulda been funnier.

Happ does this for the last home game every season! Unfortunately his contract is up and they probably won't re-sign him, we're gonna miss him dearly.

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

It’s crazy that he’s like a veteran on the team. The bleachers fucking love him.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

Hell yeah. I saw the clip from the broadcast side and it was such a cool gesture.

Yep. It's always fun being in the left field bleachers. They took a picture around the 3rd inning of everyone who got a beer out of it. We're all big fans of Ian Happ. I didn't get one of the beers, but they also do a huge pot luck on the last home game. Which is pretty awesome.

Bleacher Jeff is a good guy. They always are helping kids get a ball tossed to me after the warm up each inning. He's there in the same seat every game.

Baller move, but it’s kinda bittersweet. He probably wouldn’t have done it if he thought he’d be back next year. He’s a free agent after this season, and this makes me think he’s assuming he’ll end up somewhere else.

[–] Ep1cFac3pa1m@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Well that makes me feel a little better. I know Happer hasn’t had the offensive year he would’ve liked, but I hope he gets another contract. Unfortunately at this point I doubt we’ll see any new contracts until the CBA is worked out.

Pretty sure that stadium is cashless now...

[–] criticon@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I mean I'd keep the $300 and use my CC to get the beers. Most stadiums also have cash to card ATMs if you absolutely don't have any card with you

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

There are cash to card ATMs now? Bizarro World.

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Yup. I encountered one at a Boston Bruins game at TD Garden recently, after discovering I couldn't buy a beer with cash. Cash goes in, prepaid debit card comes out. Surprisingly, it didn't cost anything to load the cash - the same amount I put in ended up on the card. I did have to enter some PII to satisfy our bullshit KYC regs.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Crazy, be pretty handy for laundering

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think people do similar stuff at casinos for this purpose

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah In Australia it's super common even at pubs etc.

Boy boy did a great video on it

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Didn't his house get firebombed for this one?

These dudes have legit balls of steel. The shit they do in their videos is just nuts and I will not be surprised if it ends up killing one or both of them. Which I think they are aware of and ok with.

The one where they go to North Korea was amazing.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Friendly Jordies was firebombed for putting out something out on soem crime family and crime in politics.

I think it was unrelated to this video as this came out 3 months or so after the attack.

But certainly their videos cause a stir. It's like actual journalism.

Boyboy actually sailed to Cuba to deliver aid when America was destroying all the boats

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Ah right... For some reason I thought it had to do with a video he did together with Boy Boy? Or maybe I'm just confusing things.

Maybe he just did the casino video with them after the firebombing and my brain combined the two events.

All three of them have balls of steel. They attempted murder on this guy and then he just keeps doing like intense investigative journalism. We need more people like them.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

You've been able to make cash deposits at regular ATMs for like at least 15 years at this point.

[–] Ghoelian@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How is a cash to card atm gonna help if you don't have your card? Don't you still need it to top up and pay with the card?

[–] criticon@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You get a prepaid card from the ATM. I assume that charge some commission, I've never used it

[–] Ghoelian@piefed.social 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Huh, I've never heard of a prepaid card, I don't think that's a thing here. Can you just get one of those from a machine without any identification or anything?

[–] criticon@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

No idea. Here's an example case: https://www.sixflags.com/cashless

I've also seen it at concert venues but I have never used them

[–] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 2 points 1 week ago

This is such a human being bros story! Thanks for sharing

[–] DreaddyMck@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Sorry guys, but I have bills to pay...cya
