Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took to the United Nations General Assembly podium to accuse him of supporting Hamas and making Jewish New Yorkers feel unsafe

Those Jewish New Yorkers can always move Israel if their life is so bad here now.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm not sure you want to own "If you don't like it here, move back to your own country" rhetoric.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 36 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Well, that's why the state of Israel was formed, so Jews all over the world would have a place to go if they feel unsafe where they are. All the genocidal colonialism was for nothing if they're not even going to use it for what it was intended for.

[–] Oofnik@kbin.melroy.org 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Coming dangerously close to the right wing "actually Zionism is good because it means we can finally get rid of all of the Jews from the United States" bullshit

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Look, my point is that they have options. If legitimate criticism of the genocide being carried out by Jewish Zionists makes them uncomfortable, they do not have to stay here and listen to it. I'm not saying they can't stay here, I'm not saying they should be expelled or forcibly deported, nor am I condoning or advocating for discrimination or harassment against Jewish people in general, I'm saying those Jewish people who are uncomfortable here, for whatever, reason do not have to stay here. No slippery slope or reading between the lines, that's it.

It's not unreasonable for a group of people to work together to make the place they live safer for them, whether it's from the authorities or the crowd or both. There are plenty of ways the Jews of New York have historically done that, and can do that now, without leaving.

They have no power over Netanyahu but he has none over them.

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

Then they need to stand up and vocalise that Israel does not speak for them.

Right now, they claim to, and they are weaponizing that claim to do mass harm.

You caught a few downvotes, but you’re not wrong. Lots of people genuinely don’t realize that a large part of the conservative support for Israel is rooted in “give them a place on the other side of the planet, so they’re not my neighbor anymore” antisemitism. That, and the fire-and-brimstone Christian belief that the end times will be kicked off when all the Jews return to their homeland.

It always was a case of Not In My Backyard. So they (Britain, et al) picked somebody else's backyard instead. They didn't care about the Palestinians back then either.

The original Zionists were pretty explicit about being colonizers, it was more about stealing land than being safe.

So, I don't really want them to use Israel for what it was intended for. I'd rather they stay here actually.

Feeling unsafe != Living in danger. Is NYC a dangerous place to live for Jewish people? I'd be surprised if it's the case. I'm getting tired of politicians equating feelings with facts.

[–] JenitalJouster@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 week ago

no. am a jewish person in nyc and i feel fine… people do have a habit sadly of associating the hasidic jews of brooklyn to be zionist’s which funny enough a good chunk aren’t. i live in a very jewish area here and its completely okay

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 week ago

What? Go live amongst Jews? Are you mad?

If Mamdani wants to run against Schumer in the 2028 primary, I'm here for it.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He can do more good as mayor of NYC than as a senator, I think.

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 week ago

Well, somebody needs to primary Schumer.

[–] jimmy90@lemmy.world -2 points 1 week ago

I have confidence in Mark Carney's leadership. He's no dummy.

It is better to let the roaches out in the light.

NYPD is arresting protestors.

[–] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They’ve always arrested protesters who break the law. I support protesting, and in this case I support them breaking the laws they broke, but if you do that, you’ll probably be arrested. I wouldn’t support a mayor picking and choosing which causes protesters can and can’t break the law with impunity for.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 6 points 1 week ago

I wouldn’t support a mayor picking and choosing which causes protesters can and can’t break the law with impunity for.

Y'know, damn I don't like it either but you're right about consistency. We're currently mad at the sitting villains in power for doing this exact thing.

"Coup? So peaceful. Upset about murder we did? SIEZE THEM."

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Or "why centrists preferred Cuomo."

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

One day, all these demons will be gone.

And we will have new, freshly baked demons instead.

I await the day we're arguing over how to best shut down whatever fucking rogue AI was invented
