Macklemore is turning his removal from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour into a new run of his own, announcing a three-city “Free Palestine Tour” in Europe with additional artists and U.S. dates still to come.

The rapper announced the benefit tour Thursday, with concerts scheduled for Oct. 26 at 3Arena in Dublin, Oct. 29 at Accor Arena in Paris and Oct. 30 at OVO Arena Wembley in London. Ticketmaster is billing the shows as “Macklemore & Friends,” though participating artists have not yet been announced.

Macklemore said all proceeds from the concerts will benefit organizations “supporting the Palestinian people and movement.”

Nice, using the momentum to help get the Palestinian people out from under the thumb of Hamas and the IDF.

Also really stick it to the network if people driving celebrities to not speak out.

Would you rather be Ed Sheeran or Macklemore right now? The rich can kick you off tours but not make the masses hate you anymore.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

Neither, I feel like being famous would suck.

You're so brave for "both sides"ing a genocide. If only more people had the moral backbone you do 😔

[–] null@piefed.nullspace.lol 6 points 3 weeks ago

Imagine getting triggered because someone says Hamas is bad...

What is zof in this context? I'm out of the loop

[–] SparroHawc@piefed.world 32 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Zionist Occupying Forces, iirc

It's been a decade since I've seen him live, but he does a really good show.

I just love that Kraft's active actions in support of the XXI century version of the NAZIs and their Genocide has ended up snowballing into extra awareness of and attention on the plight of their victims, mainly the Palestinians.

Also love how Ed Sheeran has been outed as yet another ~~tactical~~ tacit supporter of that Genocide (in the style of American and British Liberals - not openly supporting but rather by being accomplices in the shutting down of criticism of it) - it's like a large stone was turned over and we now see all the creepy-crawlers scurrying.

[–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Fyi I think you meant "tacit", not "tactical"

I love this. This is how we all learn and grow. Good on both of you.

If I could spare the resources I'd go, so awesome of him to help rather than condone.

Due to the layout of this headline on my phone screen, my first thought was, "Macklemore is gonna do free concerts in Palestine? Like, Gaza? Sounds dangerous."

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Israel would snipe him out 100%. No question. He's not even US I think he's canadian, not that the israelis give a fuck about killing americans. But they would care even less about canada, every authoritarian government loves to pick on canada anyway. Because the US hasn't been backing them up so much since 2016.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

Snipe? They'd blow up the whole fucking concert.

[–] Cricket@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

According to wikipedia, apparently he's American, born in Seattle, Washington.

I wonder if his London show will go ahead. Also, he missed a trick not adding any shows in Spain.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

I'm thinking that he deliberately chose one city that's pretty much guaranteed to welcome him and his message with open arms (Dublin), one that has a shitload of zionists AND uncowed anti-zionists so it could go either way (Paris), and one of the main zionism-enforcing and free speech-suppressing cities of the world (London)

Dublin's gonna be a great time for everyone involved, and the other two are probably going to further the cause by generating the right headlines.

I think London will put even more pressure on the British Government since the Public Opinion over there is pretty much on the opposite side of Her Majesty's Government and most of the rest of the political class on this (the latter are unwavering supporters of Israel and their Genocide, to the point of using the kind of powers used in Dictatorships to push back on criticism of it, such as having critics of Israel and its Genocide arrested as "Supporters of Terrorism", so worse even than the "crimes" Putin in Russia created to deal with his critics).

I'm not a rap guy but I downloaded a number of his songs after the raucous, Hind's Hall is pretty good. The other songs are all right too.

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I've never listened to him before gave him a try (thanks, Sheeran). I like someone who doesn't take themself too seriously.

I especially liked Thrift Shop.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

And he made an absolute killing’ off of that song too by initially making the song popular before they just contracted services for distribution instead of the normal record deal which entirely favors the record companies. He is talented and very smart.

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't listen to this guy or this style of music in general but I'd be willing to maybe think about buying tickets to this if it rolled into my town.

[–] mirshafie@europe.pub 8 points 3 weeks ago

He's a decent rapper. Hind's Hall and Fucked up are on the Palestine topic.

[–] freudian_slop@programming.dev 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

It would be so funny if the line up consist of:

Aaron Rowe, Finneas, Lukas Graham, and Beoga (all were opening acts or supportive bands in the Ed Sheeran Tour)

Edit: Added artists names. in the original comment I just use the term Ed Sheeran acts.

Don't mind me, I'm just gonna start listening to Gold on repeat

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Okay, I just listened to ~~3~~ 4 tracks, and they're all bangers.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

block the barricade until palestine is free.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 1 points 3 weeks ago

Oops.. I read that headline twice as a tour of Palestine that was free, rather than a ""Free Palestine" tour.
