People who make the private life of other people their entertainment are disgusting and pathetic.

But how can you have any opinions if some celebrity doesn't constantly tell you what to think?

[–] ShutUpWesley@piefed.zip 48 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I take the stance that all celebrities are terrible people until proven otherwise.

See this is poorly worded, it implies Johnny Depp was determined by the court to have beaten his wife in a literal physical violence sense, but the courts determined the exact opposite. The courts determined Amber Heard was abusive and liable for damages to Depp.

it's not poorly worded. the OP seems to be trying to say that depp beat his wife.

the courts decided otherwise, and they definitely have more info about the situation than I do

"In the UK," it says. It's referring to a different, earlier trial with a different outcome.

Depp v News Group Newspapers Ltd [2020] EWHC 2911 (QB) was a defamation lawsuit brought in England. The case was initiated by American actor Johnny Depp ... after The Sun ran an article[b] that claimed Depp had abused his ex-wife ... The article stated, "Overwhelming evidence was filed to show Johnny Depp engaged in domestic violence against his wife Amber Heard," who "recounted a detailed history of domestic abuse incidents, some of which had led to her fearing for her life." After a three-week trial in London in July 2020, Andrew Nicol, a High Court judge sitting without a jury, rejected Depp's claim in a verdict announced later that year, ruling that the published material was "substantially true".[2]

Didn't the judge's wife have ties to The S*n or someone on the defence's side?

Hollywood star Johnny Depp on Monday lost his libel battle with a British tabloid which labelled him a "wife beater" after a High Court judge ruled that the paper's allegations were "substantially true".

I watched the trial. She was hilariously demolished on the stand about damn near everything. Yeah they found him guilty in the UK but based on the US trial and how clearly and blatantly she was caught lying over and over again it just makes me think the UK trial was a steaming load of Amber Heard shit.

[–] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago

The UK trial merely found that, on the balance of probability, he had struck her on at least a single occasion, ergo he is/was a wife beater. That was the only question the court needed to answer. Both trial verdicts may be equally valid - perhaps they’re a pair of cunts.

What is the historical context for this photo. Looks almost like a Renaissance painting.
