Their response to me

Thank you so much for your patience and for sharing that article. I've taken a moment to review it, and I want to be completely honest with you.

You're right that this is a live and evolving situation. GrapheneOS has publicly raised concerns about how Revolut handles device verification, and I understand why that feels frustrating especially when you've chosen GrapheneOS because of its strong security and privacy credentials.

I want to inform you: at the moment, we only officially support standard Android (with official manufacturer firmware) and iOS. This means GrapheneOS hasn't gone through our internal compatibility and security testing. It's not about limiting your choice it's about ensuring we can guarantee the safety and stability of your financial data on every device we support. Since GrapheneOS is community-maintained, we can't currently verify it meets the rigorous standards we set for protecting your funds.

That's complete nonsense. "Since the code is open source, we of course cannot vet it"

[–] mumblerfish@lemmy.world 29 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'm sure they do not use open source tools themselves. Build pipelines, testing, and so on, all windows baby! /s

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

And all that closed source definitely makes all their tools and processes SO much more trustworthy

Thats what i replied

Yeh, paragraphs to say one thing. Super positive to start, regardless how the rest of the paragraph goes.

Thank you for your comment, it helps boost the fediverse community.
After reading the original post, you are right to criticize the prose of the response. While it reads like AI, it imparts significant information, for example: that the user is using grapheneOS, that grapheneOS isn't currently supported, and that there is a pipeline ensuring that only approved operating systems are supported.

I hate that i wrote that by hand, and it reads so much like an LLM. The hardest was coming up with 3 positive sounding points

[–] lka1988@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago

Agreed. I got one sentence into that response and it screams AI.

My bullshit-meter is peaking!

It's an absurd reply obviously written by someone who's never written a single Android application. Probably a secretary who got Claude to write it up for her while she plans Hawaiian shirt Friday. They make it sound as if they have a thorough process of some kind, but the process is almost certainly going to be a few people signing off that it comes from either Google or Apple.

"We know you have chosen grapheneos for its security, but we cannot ensure that its as secure as this random android rom that is filled with ads"

Your call is very important to us

Does Revolut offering anything of value vs other institutions? I'd just leave. That answer is, they never will support Graphene.

[–] 0xtero@beehaw.org 17 points 1 week ago

Well Revolut is garbage company so nothing of value will be lost

its not perfect for everyone but use credit unions.

The bank's IT exec probably read an article or a blog post written by some Google guy spreading FUD. Google decided the non-Google versions of Android needed to die a few years ago when they hired an engineer in from Motorola (Lenovo). Getting rid of these third party high-security OSs has always been a priority among those in charge in mainland china.

The common issue is larger companies are staffed almost exclusively by mid-wit trendies who don't really know much about anything they manage on a detailed level. The better people learn quickly they need to go to a smaller companies or start their own or maybe go become a Park Ranger. This applies to Google just as much to banks with stupid names that aren't real words. When the founders leave, that's usually the last flight out of a formerly good company before the bureaucrats take power.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago

More likely, some google exrc contacted their execs and probably offered them something lucrative if they'd just get rid of this one little problem.

Wise and N26 are very good to me so far. I hate Revolut for a number of reasons

[–] unglueclass23@programming.dev 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I have them mostly for the disposable cards, although a lot of sites I noticed don't allow you to use them.

Strangely enough the app still works perfectly for me since I installed it like a couple of months back without google play services (through Aurora store). But if they start blocking me maybe I will just delete my account and go elsewhere.

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I got $50 for signing up with a referral link but I was planning on only using it for a year max from the start. There is no money app that isn't shit.

[–] motionofethre@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Wise is hands down my favorite. I don't need a phone and the app is a "convenience" rather than a must have.

But I largely agree. I really wish we could go full crypto, but I'm not high enough to believe that will happen

[–] Yeesoo6U@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago

Wise is the only one of the neobanks that doesn't force you to use their app indeed. You can use TOPT if you want to. If someone knows another, let me know!

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Isn't it fucked up that every bank in america wants you to use Zelle, the objectively worst app?

Better get started, eh?

[–] undefinedTruth@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Any real Revolut alternative for us in the EU, that has an actual web interface and doesn't require the use of an app?

[–] undefinedTruth@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago

Wise is a bank? I thought they were just a way of transferring money around. Do they have things like high yield savings accounts and scheduled transfers?

[–] unglueclass23@programming.dev 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] undefinedTruth@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

That would be an option if they didn't all suck. That was the reason I started using Revolut years ago in the first place. Fees for pretty much everything. You want to pay a bill? Here is a fee. You want send money to a different bank? Here is a fee? You want the privilege of having a credit card with absolutely no benefits. That will be 12€ per year. You want to just keep your money with us? That will be 1€ per month just for the privilege of having an account with us. Did I mention we pay an amazing 0% interest? What? High yield savings account? I am sorry, we never heard of it.

[–] Paularhion@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's fine 🤷 I closed my account and opened a monzo. It took literally 10 minutes.

[–] unglueclass23@programming.dev 1 points 1 week ago

Did it stop working for you?
