Coming from the union busting studio that wants 80$ for the game? Man, what a surprise. /s
AAA is dead.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's a rotting carcass for roughly a decade now, sadly. At least with US-based AAA. I would have to think for a while to come up with a title that well deserved full price. It was either indie, AA or some Chinese or polish AAA.

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I honestly don't remember what the last AAA title I bought was.

Cyberpunk+DLC. Well worth it. (Not at launch, but never play on release-day). Other than that I would have to check my library for hours-played to answer that... Which is sad.

Dude just bought that game off Steam for 75% off. Was like 17 bucks.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

I just bought on release-day. But didn't play it until a year later. I learnt from my mistakes, and behold, it was the right choice. They released way too early 😁

I had zero problems, tons of mods, massive hours of fun.

[–] pleb_maximus@piefed.zip 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Last AAA for me was Jedi: Survivor. Even played it on release day. Didn't have any problems. But then again, I also had sane graphics settings for what my card could handle.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

That is rare, yes :) I actually checked, and it's not many.... Assassin's Creed Origin&Odyssey and Subnautica&SZ were the only US-based AAA that were worth it for full-price (or more) in the last 5 years or so.

if you can't wait 6 hours longer for a fucking trailer, maybe you have a problem. Like jesus fucking christ, does it really matter? More than half these people would still buy the game even if Cockstar never released a single image or video of the game.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 2 points 1 week ago

I thought the pre ordering or pay extra to play a day early is bad. This is downright a mental illness. The fact that people even watch that shit just tell these shitasses that it works.

[–] laurelraven@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Shit, I rarely even hear about or run across these trailers before they've been out at least a few days

[–] Eyck_of_denesle@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Does it ever go cheap tho? It has never dropped under 20$ in my region ever(gta 5)

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 7 points 1 week ago

GTAV has been only $9.99 in my region for years now and they also have given it away free at least twice.

It's six hours. A controversy about a gameplay reveal that is available 6 hours later. Rockstar banks on this controversy. Just watch it on YouTube. God, people are impatient.

G*mers love throwing a shit fit over the most pointless things

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago

Paying for skins started with a horse armor for a few dollars. Because people allowed it and it made a bit more money, it turned into the bag of shit we have now, where you don't even get all the players in a game without buying them.

Waiting 6 hours is nothing. What it becomes later, if it proves to be profitable, will be.

How can one be a "GTA 6 fan" when the game isn't even released. I'm a fan of 1-5, but....

[–] Instigate@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well, ‘fan’ is a shortening of the term ‘fanatic’, and I’d certainly suggest that people who can’t wait for the video to be reuploaded elsewhere in a matter of hours are definitely engaging in fanatical behaviour.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Fair point. Though "fan" became something more tame. I'm surely fan of subnautica but wouldn't sacrifice a goat 😁

[–] shani66@ani.social 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well obviously, subnautica demands a deep sea invertebrate not a goat. That'd just be silly.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Well, but dragging the goat down there already does the job. Work smart, not hard!

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Can't wait to buy this game in 5-10 years for like $5 with all the bugs patched, cool mods available, and all DLC included.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Not happening not with no physical copies. My guess they want to keep that high price tag long as possible and see how many rubs they can sucker into paying it.

[–] warm@kbin.earth 3 points 1 week ago

Yes, it will go on sale for cheap, lower barrier of entry to their online service riddled with extra transactions. Why do you think all AAA games go on sale so fast? They are only $70 with $100+ editions at launch to rake in cash from people stupid enough to overpay.

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 1 points 1 week ago

Sure it will.

Also, piracy.

[–] absquatulate@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

...but they will still buy it.

[–] MrNobody@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago

That shit will be on pirate sites within 20 minutes. Will be on unofficial youtube channels after that, everyone who wants to see it will see it before it hits official youtube channels. Most not through netflix.

[–] space_comrade@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

They're really milking it for all its worth even before its even released lmao, this kind of nickel and diming is bizarre even for a mainstream gaming company.

[–] Lenins_Dumbbell@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Starting to think they know the game is going to fail and not live up to the hype, so get as much money out of it as you can while you can.

Wonder if they've used AI slop in development

The game is going to sell well, but I don't think it's going to be a cashcow like GTA V Online, they already tried that with RDR 2 and failed. It's just another boring movie like game.

They 100% did, which is why they layoff a lot of their workers who were trying to make a union.

Lololol have need to calm those tits. Good lord what a stupid thing to twist up your panties over.
