im referring to the position some took before October that insisted on capitalist rule first, after which socialism, in order to follow the order of feudalism -> capitalism -> socialism

i understand broadly why they were incorrect, Stalin called them compromisers:

Hence, in order not to err in policy, one must pursue an uncompromising proletarian class policy, not a reformist policy of harmony of the interests of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, not a compromisers' policy of the "growing" of capitalism into socialism.

im looking for a more long form explanation or resources on the topic though, if anyone could point me in any helpful direction, to deepen my understanding

The main problem was that Russian bourgeoisie was already pivoting to reactionary approaches following European bourgeoisie's pivot. That meant that they would be unable to fully follow through with bourgeois revolution, so Russian capitalism would be doomed to limp with remnants of feudalism as a periphery capitalism in style of Latin America.

The stageist position was anti working class. They (Mensheviks and the like) were calling on the working class to stand down and let the bourgeoisie exploit them. The Bolsheviks recognized that to intentionally surrender the revolution would be to betray the working classes.
