Unfortunately there's no shocked Pikachu face, because industry doesn't care about consumers. They're getting truckloads of money from AI companies, so it doesn't matter to them that Joe Blow can't afford things anymore.
Here's the problem with that logic.
The AI companies are buying ram to put into PCs that haven't been assembled yet. They'll put those PCs inside data centers that haven't been built yet. To run AI services that don't functionally work the way they want yet. To sell AI services to a population that doesn't wsnt them. All so they can fire employees that can't be replaced yet. Just so they can attempt to chase profits that were never possible in the first place.
What's going to happen is these CEOs are going to look at the line, and realize it didn't go up like they thought it would. Then they'll cancel their orders for bulk ram that they never needed. The problem is, this isn't just plug and play ram. So you're going to have a case of Atari 2800 E.T going on. Where they have warehouses full of a made product that nobody wants.
They'll either close shop and die, or barely survive, and have to make consumer ram really really cheaply.....because now nobody will have PCs that need new ram. Consumers will either have really oldPCs whose ram is maxed out already, or they'll rent a pc with soldered in non-removable ram. Or just not have a PC.
And this whole AI shit is a house of cards. You REALLY think they'll spend the estimated 400 billion dollars in 2027 on data centers when so far it's produced $0 in profit?
This shit's about to crash, and the longer and higher they prop it up, the harder it's going to crash.

Then the ai companies need to go
Remember it's the AI scam that did this, anyone who screwed us we need to remember when the bubble bursts and they lose that sweet sweet selling of debt between massive trillion dollar corporations.
Bubble won't burst through, US gov is the reason the bubble even exists - Project Stargate.
Everything is a market scam, here, now. Even wars are to make trades on the market and increase his billions.
Don't worry, your pension fund or bank can. They will gladly use your savings to print money to give to people (not-you) to bid up the price.
ed: tbf your savings are fairly irrelevant part of their balance sheet, but if they were effectively regulated then they might be . . .
No shit. For one thing, the oled model steam deck is 2 years old and has had a price increase of at least $200 USD, and they stopped selling the cheaper LCD variant.
People could afford them at $549. People can't afford them at $789. People are also less likely to buy what is essentially a console at an increased price when it's 2+ years old hardware and the price of everything else is rising.
PS5 and Xbox One X sales have also fallen as the price increased.
It's not rocket science. The market can't afford to bear such high prices for regular consumers and AI firms aren't buying steam decks or consoles. Consumer PC sales are also tanking.
The device is just woefully underpowered now compared to the competition. It's fine if you just use it for emulation, old games, or just playing stuff at 30fps. But I want to have something with more power, especially at the new price point.
I'm patiently waiting for a Steam Deck 2.
I mean, if you're playing super high-fidelity games, you won't really absorb many details on that small screen. I get mine for indie games where I can turn down the wattage regularly.
I mean, it's a portable device. Put enough power into it, and it's just going to light my lap on fire.
The more powerful device (with enough cooling, and a wall connection) is the Steam Machine, and it's currently a lottery to get a chance to buy one. I am fully down to play more aggressive games, if I get a chance to buy the Steam Machine.
But I'm not excited for another Sega GameGear - another portable so powerful that it cannot be practically played away from a wall outlet.
I do want another SteamDeck, but I want it smaller, lighter, lower power, longer battery, and pocketable. I want a SteamDeck mini.
Its fantastic to play stuff remotely though, with sunshine/moonlight. I can VPN into my home network from coffee shops, hotels, etc and play much stronger titles streamed from my PC.
I have that for home networks, but I don’t think I could feel so confident in my security setup - even if Sunshine asks for a password or pairs devices, you’re giving Remote Desktop access relatively easily.
How's the input lag with that setup?
Fine for my needs, I don't play FPSs or platformers though, just single player RPG's and open world games.
Moonlight seems to use 10mb/s to stream, so its not very demanding on internet either.
I should definitely try it then. Playing Palworld right now so it might be a good game to try it on.
It's my only gaming device, so I don't have much to compare it against - but I enjoyed cyberpunk on it, and am currently enjoying baldur's gate 3. But yeah, I'll definitely get steam deck 2 as soon as.

They will just stop making stuff consumers want to buy and keep making the crap that AI firms want so they can ride that wave as far as it will go.
We know this because the collective buying power of US consumers isn't propping up the stock market anymore. AI firms are.
Lol no they won't. Consumer buying power keeps diminishing as a % of the overall market. Businesses just sell to each other and everyone outside of mass ownership is being turned into a surf for feudalism 2.0 (now with digital circus slop).
Feudalism never really went away, just got rebranded.
I actually fear the opposite is true. The long term plan is to force everyone towards cheap dumb terminal systems, (imagine something like a Chromebook) so they can then rent processing power for individual tasks.
For example, Nvidia GeForce Now. You can play a AAA game on max settings on a piece of garbage laptop. Hell, you can even play it on an iPad. All you need to do is rent the processing power from Nvidia, and now you have the power of an RTX 5080 on all of your streaming-capable devices for only a few bucks a day. Easy, right?
But now imagine that for basically all of your computing. Need to edit a video? Oh that’ll be $30 a month to access Premier Pro’s cloud editing, where you stream the program from a server. Need Photoshop? Lucky for you, Adobe has a cloud package where you can stream your Photoshop sessions directly from Adobe’s servers. Only $40 per month. Need to do basically anything besides browse the internet? Might as well memorize your credit card number, because you’ll be needing it a lot. But hey, at least you didn’t have to shell out $800 for RAM, right?
Software-as-a-service is a blight and is inherently anti-consumer… But it is also where basically every large software company (and most small companies) are going nowadays. And renting processing power is simply SAAS taken to its logical conclusion.
I agree completely. Thats why it needs to fail now and fast. If it collapses fast enough there may not be enough time to push the alternative. Stuff like that needs to be a slow adoption for it to work. If the plan is to obvious people will reject it for multiple reasons. I dont think they will have enough money to waste to prop that plan up. Thats just my opinion though, and I hope it's at least somewhat correct.
Technically true, but saying that "nothing sells" is fucking wild. The prices are astronomical because the components driving up the price (specifically memory and storage) are being vacuumed up by AI.
To be fair I'd be mroe likely to get a DEck if they didn't insist on using a 2230 SSD slot that limits upgradability if/when the prices of drives come back down to sane levels...
Or people get fed up with being starved, poisoned, and having the climatre screwed and start disassembling data centers flooding the market with used SSDs ;)
I think any savvy consumer would do 15 seconds of research and see that an ROG Ally is measurably better in every way and cheaper (for now)
Except it doesn't have trackpads. I guess that's fine for a lot of people, but I imagine there's quite a few PC gamers who want the portability along with the ability to play games without proper controller support.
Agree. The trackpad works much better for city builders like Against the Storm. That’s not to say I don’t also use the sticks. The trackpad controls the mouse, left stick pans the camera, right stick rotates and zooms.
Maybe it's me but I can't stand using the format for anything other then 2d games. Which I love and switch between that and a computer rig.
The trackpads are the killer feature for me. I will not buy a handheld without them.
