Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

I picked out this... thing. The duvet cover had eaten everything in the machine and turned itself into a postmodern textile art piece.

That's exactly why I always tie a knot in the middle of large things like this lol

[–] Successful_Try543@feddit.org 21 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I never had duvet covers do this. Fitted sheets however 💀. Now, I put them into a big laundry bag I've bought at a large coffee roastery.

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago

You know. I didn’t think about doing that for the dryer. The fitted sheets always eat the rest and then I have a jelly-roll style sheet conglomeration.

[–] pageflight@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Oh nice, it doesn't pull the knot too tight?

[–] Natanael@slrpnk.net 5 points 3 months ago

You have you keep it somewhat loose, just make it so it can't easily catch other things

[–] Hubi@feddit.org 3 points 3 months ago

I've never had that happen personally.

[–] amelia@feddit.org 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

How is that even possible! Why is it a topological torus??

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 23 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It took me time to find the opening and then to accept that it isn't ripped anywhere. My only explanation is that it took a tumble into the fourth dimension.

[–] 0x0@infosec.pub 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Did it come out with unmatched socks inside of it?

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

Now that you mentioned it, I think I threw the other one away in 2007.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

when you put predator and pray in the same fish tank

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Duvets are the worst, it's like the ultimate boss fight for my dryer

[–] Nighed@feddit.uk 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

You have to button them (duvet covers) up again before you wash them. I regret it every time I don't.

clarifying - duvet COVERS, not the duvet itself.

Of mine, some (more expensive) have buttons, some (IKEA) have poppers, all of them have something though?

[–] trinsec@piefed.social 1 points 3 months ago

Mine are fairly cheap (but feels good) and all they have is just a narrower opening on the foot end. No buttons of any sort. Old, new, doesn't matter. None have buttons.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago

You have to do them with just like the fitted sheet and pillow cases.

I still think one swallowed a pillow case and now I can never find the matching one anymore.

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

Ugh fuck duvet covers they’ll eat themselves even if they’re closed and the only thing in there

[–] oce@jlai.lu 8 points 3 months ago

You can also use a laundry mesh bag, put either the duvet or the rest in the bag and it will not happen. Laundry bags are also useful to protect clothes with elastics from being stretched and damaged.

[–] heydo@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago (3 children)

If you washing machine has a Bedding setting then try using that. It prevents this from happening, at least of front loading machines.

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Mine has one that says waterproof... What the hell is that for?

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Cleaning things that are hydrophobic

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well, yeah waterproof, but I guess what I mean is how is that cycle any different?

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

I assume the soaking cycle times are different? I feel like they would be longer in this case? I don't know the chemistry of detergents, water, and hydrophobic molecules (used in clothing) but I assume the automation either increases soaking time for stain penetration or decrease it if it doesn't matter. ,

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Aha, I'll check it out. Thanks!

[–] Poem_for_your_sprog@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

You're my hero heydo

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It’s official. You are the chosen one, and this is your legendary weapon.

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Well okay then I guess

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 months ago

First thought: "why are they holding their baby like that?"

After scrolling down: "oh"

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 5 points 3 months ago

Wash separately

[–] Brownie@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 months ago (2 children)

My washing machine ones created a giant extremelly heavy clump of sheets, started shaking like crazy and with the vibrations drove away from the wall which resulted in the dryer on top almost falling

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I have a combo machine that used to do the Melbourne Shuffle until I put it on rubber feet and lowered the centrifuge speed. Now it is happy twerking mostly in place.

[–] Brownie@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago

I might consider that.. Although it only happened once, so we'll see if something similar happens again :D

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago

Hmm I need to move mine out of the tiny closet they put it in to redo some ductwork I did poorly when the outside duct froze closed over the winter. Moving them at all was a bitch to the point I taped ratchet straps in place for the next time I needed to move them, but the tape failed and now the one strap is behind the machine. I can get another one behind it, though it will be at risk of messing up the duct where it comes out of the dryer. I'm tempted to knock out the wall beside it and install another door for maintenance access because of how annoying they are to move.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 3 months ago

you pulled out the washing machine's intestines

[–] BeUnique@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 months ago

It reminds me of intestines

[–] Feadogbandit@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I got some silicone rubber bands from Amazon a few years ago and I use them to tie the four corners of sheets and blankets together before washing and drying. Does a great job keeping them from entangling other items in the machine.

[–] BlindPenguin@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Wait, there are laundry machines that stop when something's wrong?

[–] BucketBong@p.hobo.social 4 points 3 months ago

Or it made a perfect rotisserie chicken holder.

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Damn, me too!

[–] NutinButNet@hilariouschaos.com 2 points 3 months ago

Happens to my sheets all the time. I am just used to it now and prepared to unravel and run again with the stuff that got trapped and is a big ball of damp mess.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

I recently got a used washer that doesn't have the center column and instead of doing this, blankets now form a bubble or mushroom shape across the whole drum

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

My washer does this all the time. It can be infuriating.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Mildly, one might say.

[–] UnequalExchange@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ya I always have to ball up big things I pout into the washer so it doesnt suck up all the other smaller things I put in.

Something sad Ive also found is that when this phenomena occurs sometimes the big articles suck up all the detergent juices and water and prevent the smaller , trapped inside it clothing from getting sufficiently cleaned

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

The big eat the small and hog resources meant to be shared by all. The sad parallels of society in the laundry.

[–] MonaySimpson@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago

Concrete the washer into the wall.
