I am looking for mods!

1. The "good" part of our community means we are pro-empathy and anti-harassment. However, we don't intend to make this a "safe space" where everyone has to be a saint. Sh*t happens, and life is messy. That's why we get things off our chests.

2. Bigotry is not allowed. That includes racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and religiophobia. (If you want to vent about religion, that's fine; but religion is not inherently evil.)

3. Frustrated, venting, or angry posts are still welcome.

4. Posts and comments that bait, threaten, or incite harassment are not allowed.

5. If anyone offers mental, medical, or professional advice here, please remember to take it with a grain of salt. Seek out real professionals if needed.

6. Please put NSFW behind NSFW tags.

I like Zohran Mamdani. I like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.

But if you think they have any chance to win a presidential election against Eric Trump or JD Vance, you are kidding yourself.

People living in Nevada, Texas, Michigan or Wisconsin are never going to vote for a muslim socialist or a latina.

Many americans get their news from Fox News or X.

They believe California/New York/Boston/Seattle/Chicago are disgusting hellholes full of crime, murder and pink-haired weirdos who hate America.

The next candidate should be :

- Male

- White

- Not from the West Coast or East Coast

- Military veteran

Any other candidate will be annihilated before the presidential campaign even starts.

I say this as as a foreigner

As much as I hate this, I think you are right. I might add they need to be good looking and straight.

I honestly wish they would focus on execution and getting something, anything (even if imperfect) done. I don't they they will do that either. 😕

They won in some of the most progressive places in America. And Mamdani barely did that.

I disagree that the Muslim or Latina bit is the bar but in a country where trump, even right now, seems to have a 40% approval rating doesn't bode well for a hard Left candidate.

I literally just read an article here an hour ago about how LLM bots are starting to get through signup protocols on Lemmy and mods are becoming overburdened. They even mentioned a brigade of Russian bots that have been shit stirring and spreading propaganda.

I would not be surprised if you are close to the truth here. Especially because this is supposed to be a good off my chest comm lol

It's not that we don't know how racist and horrible our countrymen are. It's that, being surrounded by idiots isn't an excuse for poor policy. We should have good policy regardless of the fact that we're surrounded by idiots, and we should tell those idiots why good policy is good.
