Yeah, I meant in general. I’ve seen quite a few times instances of it outside of womensstuff and not many people call them out except for folks like me and velma. I’d never expect a guy to do that there.

Can’t steal what’s freely given! Have at it!

I have so many misogynist cries misandry tags out there that it’s pretty crazy. I just tag folks instead of blocking since this is still such a small space, that way I can read their comments/posts but otherwise not engage with them.

The worst of the worst I’ve seen here hasn’t been active in over two weeks thank goodness. Hopefully he got told he’s an ass by enough people other than me that he left.

[–] dkppunk@piefed.social 5 points 5 hours ago (6 children)

This is why I said in my comment that I wish more guys would call out their fellow men’s misogyny more instead of relying on others to correct them. It would be a step in the right direction.

Not saying this is you at all, but it would nice to not have guys arguing and crying misandry/sexism when they are politely asked to leave a space specifically made for women and femme adjacent folks. Maybe if more guys pushed back, women would feel more welcome.

You’re correct, my bad. It was Mastodon but I don’t doubt it can happen here eventually.

[–] dkppunk@piefed.social 5 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (4 children)

I literally just read an article here an hour ago about how LLM bots are starting to get through signup protocols on Lemmy and mods are becoming overburdened. They even mentioned a brigade of Russian bots that have been shit stirring and spreading propaganda.

I would not be surprised if you are close to the truth here. Especially because this is supposed to be a good off my chest comm lol

Edit: found it

This problem is not only spam in the ‘click-here-for-free-dogecoin’ sense, IFTAS reports that the fediverse has been targeted by the Russian botnet Portal Kombat for misinformation and propaganda.

Edit 2: I was wrong, it’s a Mastodon thing but I wouldn’t be surprised if it came here eventually too.

[–] dkppunk@piefed.social 9 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Absolutely! I wish more male users of these comms would call out their fellow men’s misogyny and not rely on others to do it for them. It would make the spaces more welcoming to a lot more people and create a more positive atmosphere.

I also love seeing 2 of my fave lemmings in other spaces 🥰

I have to disagree with The Expanse as a popcorn book. I’ve read all the books 2-3 times, all the novellas, all the graphic novels, played the Tell Tale game, waiting on the next game, I own the tv series, and have Detective Miller as my desktop background. It’s a universe that, if you really want to, you can get obsessed with it. That’s one of my all time favorite science fiction series, but I do agree they are fairly easy reads.

Yeah, RP1 was definitely not groundbreaking scifi at all, it was way too hyped up. It was alright and even when I recommend it to someone I think would like it, I always include caveats of the cringe and other weird stuff. Like, I know Watts is a younger guy but some parts are just 🤢 And don’t even get me started on RP2, just ugh! Bad bad bad!!

Snow Crash was far better and I’m glad I didn’t read it as a vacation book. I absorbed more of it reading it at home rather than while traveling. I remember way more of Snow Crash than I remember Ready Player One. We absolutely deserve a Snow Crash show!

War of the Spark: Ravnica by Greg Weisman

This book took everything that was decent about the Magic the Gathering universe and threw it directly into the trash. Poor writing, poor characters, lacks development.

The gross comments from Chandra about Gideon’s rippling muscles and sexiness were just completely not worth the read (and I actually love romance novels). The changes of making Chandra more straight than she actually is, does a complete disservice to the love story between her and Nissa. Very disrespectful to the characters and community from an otherwise decent author. Just no!

If you still want to read a Magic book, check out Children of the Nameless by Brandon Sanderson. It’s a far more compelling story about the spark of a new planeswalker.

What’s funny is I 100% agree with both of you and I still enjoyed that book. I read it as a vacation book a few years back. I refer to it as a popcorn book; quick, easy to read, mostly forgettable once done. But when it cringes, it cringed so hard.

And Snow Crash was definitely better

Holy shit! That’s that guy?

[–] dkppunk@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

Oh goodness, this is me. I enjoy going out and I can go out without spending any money other than gas. I’ll walk around a park with friends, hang out with them at their homes, go on hikes etc. But man…that hurdle of actually going is so massive.

Luffa update (media.piefed.social)

This was the little guy from last week:

Update on the luffas I posted about: https://piefed.social/post/2094148

These plants grow fast. This is about a week’s worth of growth on two fruits. The luffas have gotten significantly larger.

I’m not going to update these frequently, just wanted to show the growth rate in case anyone is thinking of growing a luffa plant. They are so much fun!

Tried to catch the baby to move it out of my garden, but it crawled into the flower and showed me its little booty instead lol

My luffas are starting! (media.piefed.social)
submitted 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) by dkppunk@piefed.social to c/gardening@lemmy.world

Last year, a friend gave me a bunch of seeds that were going to be thrown away, mostly packaged for 2024. One of the packs was for luffas, a type of gourd that is commonly used as a sponge. I threw 2 in my Aerogarden to watch them sprout. I quickly learned it was too much plant for not enough space, so I moved one outside into a pot of dirt. It looked really sad for a while, I honestly thought it was going to die, but after the transplant shock wore off it started growing and producing. The inside luffa only produced 1 female flower and tons of male flowers. The outside luffa had a lot more female flowers, so I hand pollinated all of the female flowers with males from the inside plant. I ended up harvesting 10 sponges from my one outside plant.

This year’s plant is from a seed I harvested from last year’s luffa. I have another plant that I’ll be culling soon because the pot is too small and it’s only producing a few male flowers. But the one in the picture looks a lot happier and the luffas are growing larger every day.

I hand pollinated them because the bees go crazy for my luffa flowers and take all of the pollen with them. The large luffa was pollinated about 2 weeks ago and the smaller was pollinated last week. They are so much fun to grow, I highly recommend them if you have space. My luffas are grown in pots with an upside down tomato cage for it to vine up.

I think I want to try other kinds of gourds too because they are so fun and useful! Plus it helps support my local bee population :)

I actually love invertebrates and I’ve always considered pill bugs very cute. I fully understand how beneficial they are to gardens but O.M.G. they are destroying my plants this year. In 2 months, I’ve lost 5 luffa, 3 hot pepper, and 2 soybean plants to these adorable little fuckers. Thankfully, they are completely ignoring my Roma tomatoes.

I am going to get some diatomaceous earth today to sprinkle at the base of my plants and probably put down some sacrificial plant scraps to lure and feed them away from my vegetables. I don’t want them all to die, but I can’t get my plants to grow when they eat the stems.

Last year, I had an issue with hydrophobic soil, so this year I have put down straw to keep moisture in, which has allowed the pill bugs to run rampant throughout the garden. I do not overwater but I do live in a more arid climate, so things do get dry pretty quick and plants get thirsty. I almost prefer hydrophobic soil at this point.

I’ll be moving the surviving 3 soybeans and 2 pepper plants to a separate raised garden bed that the pill bugs cannot access, but UGH I never thought I’d be so frustrated with these cute guys!

Looking for any additional advice on getting rid of pill bugs/rollie pillow/sow bugs or whatever you want to call them. Such adorable and incredibly frustrating little fuckers!

Cute little Buttonhook Leafbeetle Jumping Spider that did not want to sit still for a picture. It kept moving around to the other side of the stem when I got close lol

It was super cute 💚

This is my bark lynx spider friend. I call her Bump because she looks like a tiny bump on my tomato cage :)
