This was noted in 2014 when Officer Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown in Ferguson. He was suspended with full pay while Ferguson exploded into unrest. (The protests were peaceful, but the police were glad to start the violence.)

Since 2015 the stat I remember was ~4 officer-involved homicides a day. Plenty more brutality in which the victim survived.

A few counties like Oakland and Minneapolis have taken steps by offering newer classes of responders to handle homeless and mental health issues, but for most of the US, we've done nothing.

I think Police unions need to be abolished. They're clearly corrupt. It should be brought to a vote because these guys should be going to prison for life over dumb shit like this.

They drew a gun on a shoplifter and killed a baby. How is this guy even allowed to sleep soundly at night?

The only union called in to oppose other unions. You're never gonna see the SEIU called in to break up a strike by the AFL-CIO.

Class traitors, the whole lot of them.

And there are people defending that cop. Imagine being that desperate to avoid acknowledging that sometimes the police are simply wrong

Don't you know police officer is the most dangerous job there is, behind pizza deliverer. I mean that shoplifter might have had a gun, that baby might have had a gun, that gun might have had a gun. You can never know. A cop sometimes has to make tough choices, and choosing not to shoot into that crowded parking lot might have been the worst choice in a terrible situation. Like this one where he might have missed the chance to shoot his gun for real, like in an action movie. At the BAD GUYS!

You forgot the part where he felt afraid for his life, so shooting everything in sight is a rational and expected response.

If it moves - shoot it. If it doesn't? Well that terror-baby could become posessed by a demon any second. Better use it as a target for practice before it eats your brains instead!

The reason we put so much trust in cops is because they are highly trained. And the most important thing that they learn is to be terrified of everything. The only way to stay safe is the ability to see even a harmless child as a danger. And if a cop can't shoot anything and everything indiscriminately without consequence, then none of us are safe.
