Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

    Time to change the scheme

    v26.8

    [–] argarath@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Why did you upload it as a webp? Nothing against ya, but webp can burn in hell in for it's sins (inconveniencing me when I forward memes to telegram and they come out as stickers) lol

Legit tho, how did you make it a webp? I never tried it, is it an export option on gimp?

    [–] Aatube@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

sounds like we should get off telegram! (or at least the official client?)

WebP is a pretty awesome format with awesome compression, both lossless and lossy. It's only behind JXL which is not widely adopted.

    [–] argarath@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Trust me, I want to get out of telegram, but the issue is that all of my friends do not want to leave. Stickers are a huge reason for them staying on telegram, but the real reason is that they're used to it so they don't want to try new stuff

    [–] dev_null@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, it's an export option in Gimp, and I also use it everywhere. It's smaller than both PNG and JPG, does the job of both (lossy and lossless), and has better quality at the same size.

    [–] argarath@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Nice!! I have been needing to upload some documents to websites with ridiculously small size limitations, so that's really useful! Thanks!

    [–] mexicancartel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am also quite annoyed by telegram, but it's their fault for assuming all webp images as stickers

    [–] argarath@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

It's such a stupid decision! They can't even benefit from the better compression on all of the other images shared around because of this dumb decision

    [–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

    Webp is way more efficient

    [–] argarath@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What's that? Ungesktiptet came back as "not written" from Norwegian

    [–] BOplaid@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 8 hours ago

Oh right, sorry, I mistaked you for someone else

Where are the distro makers? We need a distro with Plasma 6.7, kernel 6.9, maybe an optional lite version with xfce 4.20 and some meme wallpapers

    [–] pupbiru@aussie.zone 31 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

it’s like how the linux kernel isn’t semver: the number after the decimal point has a maximum of .19 and then the first number increments

    except that one time

kernel version 4.20 is the only .20 kernel version

Nobody who finds 6 7 funny is going to be using anything other than a tablet that runs YouTube

    [–] Rolive@discuss.tchncs.de 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm in my late 30s and find it funny..... please help.

    [–] texture@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

ive got bad news for you about your 40s ....

    [–] Rinn@awful.systems 35 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nah, humans are great at pattern-matching, even just being aware that some find 67 funny is enough for you to start spotting it. I started finding some amusement in it just due to exposure from younger coworkers.

Yeah, it's still a trash tier thing but it's at least slightly amusing

    [–] Shayeta@feddit.org 6 points 2 days ago

    six- SEVENNN πŸ€™πŸ˜œ

    [–] Clanket@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Late 40s, novice linux user, and I find it funny. I only know it coz of my kids, and the funny part is when they say it. You start spotting it everywhere yourself too, and in my head I shake my hands and shout 6 7....lol.

Thanks to the XFCE development proceeding at couch potato speeds, I've been on this funny number version for a year and a half lol.

    [–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Xfce is developed primarily by a single person so thats not surprising

    [–] mlg@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yeah I'm not complaining. I'm actually surprised they've successfully demonstrated wayland support after jumping from 4.18.

Can military organisation just take addresses?

    [–] waldfee@feddit.org 25 points 2 days ago

Even some companies have huge address ranges: https://www.xkcd.com/195/

They should skip to 6.9 for good measure

    [–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Pull a Samsung and just skip to 20

    [–] mmmm@sopuli.xyz 96 points 3 days ago

As a matter of fact KDE 6.9 will be released on 2027/4/20. Source: trust me, bro.

if it causes even one eight year old to take an interest, it's worth it.

    [–] BlackLaZoR@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago

    I'll make a jump straight to 6.9

finally, the perfect plasma version for my gen alpha sister

    [–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Every generation has its words and phrases they use. Mostly to just annoy their parents-- Who had their own words and phrases.

So if you're Hep to the Scene and a Real Gone Cat, Be cool and chill, light up a J because it's 420 somewhere. And enjoy 67. And the not to distant future, we are all going to laugh at Gen Alpha about it. And they are going to be confused about the Gen Beta's annoying slang.

Personally I hope Plasma goes with 6.7 AND 6.9. The memes will just write themselves. And it will be glorious!
