I found a great trick for this, when you get a spam call answer like so "Federal Bureau of Investigations, [Largest city near your area code] district office, how many I direct your call?"
The calls will stop very quickly. I haven't gotten a spam call in over 2 years because of this.
What're they gonna do, rat me out for impersonating a federal employee? "Hi I'm a scammer spoofing numbers and this person faked saying they're a fed!" Get stuffed lol
Phone constantly getting blown up by my good friend Scam Likely
I really wish I could just whitelist a small selection of numbers. The call screening feature helps but isn't perfect.
Depending on your device, you may be able to configure it to only ring if the number is already in your contacts.
Well shit, there's a variation I hadn't considered and is doable. Cheers friend!
I am applying to jobs currently. I am basically forced to answer every unknown call I get. And it seems like there's a hundredfold increase in spam calls this year compared to last year.
Protip, just tell them it's a business number. I've done that twice and suddenly the number of spam calls I get dropped off a cliff.
That works well for sales spam. I usually use "this is an emergency on-call number" instead. Technically it was half-true, it went to the same dual-sim phone.
But for the robo scam calls. Well, they just don't care.
I believe both iOS and Android now support built in call screening, where a caller must leave a message about why theyβre calling and you get to decide if you pick up.
Since enabling it on my iOS device, every spammer has hung up immediately, rather than leave a message or try to talk to me.
There's SpamBlocker app in fdroid I use and love. You can add a regex rule to block numbers. I moved several times, and don't keep in contact with anyone from the area code when I got my phone anymore, so most spam come in spoofing that area code. I have a rule set to block that area code completely and allow my current actual local area code for doctors and schools and whatnot. Works pretty well.
The top one is a blocked call, the second is a voice message... What is the fork icon for?
Is it detecting a three way call maybe? The caller id spoofer might be setting something off.
Good question
Missed call; it's a line bouncing off the other line. I guess the visual is supposed to be "didn't get through"?
I'm not radicalized, I'm just kinda rad and I blame skateboarding.
Far out!
I keep my phone on silent, and set it to auto-ignore calls from numbers not in my contacts list. Hereβs what ignored lately. This is just from the past 2 weeksβ¦

What's almost worse, is that it works.
If people stopped answering, and buying, it would stop being financially viable for businesses.
Seriously, just stop answering. Make sure your contacts are up to date. Only accept calls from people you know.
When you get an unknown caller, don't pick up. Don't click decline. Declining let's them know there's a live person on the other end. Just let it ring until their system times out and hangs up. Let it happen enough and they slow down to a stop. I've seriously only gotten one in the past 5 months.
If you don't answer and it's actually something important, they'll leave a message. The scammers never, ever do.

Neither will the recruiters
I've been keeping my phone on silent for years and only allowing specific favorite contacts through. It's been absolutely liberating. No notifications demanding my attention. I'll interact with my phone on MY terms.
