Judge rules that Washington DC performing arts venue cannot be renamed without an act of Congress

A judge on Friday ordered the removal of Donald Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, ruling that the prestigious Washington DC venue cannot be renamed without an act of Congress.

US district judge Christopher Cooper in Washington directed the Trump administration to take down all physical signage bearing Trump’s name and to eliminate any references to a “Trump Kennedy Center” from official materials within 14 days.

“The Kennedy Center’s organic statute makes crystal clear that the Center is to be named for President Kennedy, and it cannot bear any other formal name or public memorial based on the Board’s unilateral say-so,” Cooper wrote in a 94-page opinion. “Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it.”

Next step is to tear down those banner mugshot photos of him on prominent american owned buildings.

Make him fucking pay for that shit. He's such a piece of shit. Literally just raided our country by suing his own IRS and settling out of court. Why aren't Dems shutting shit down? Like fuck it all. Obstruct everything. Nothing good happening with this bastard.

wouldn't dems have to, like, win elections to do much more than they're doing rn with temporary injunctions and whatnot? I'm not saying they WILL do more, I'm skeptical that they CAN.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Win more elections and toss shitheels like Fetterman into an industrial tumble dryer at a minimum. As of right now most states are doing what they can with how utterly broken things are, governor of Colorado not withstanding. Short of disregarding interstate commerce, raising militia, and stealing military equipment there ain't too much that can be done, also even my militaristic bloodthirsty ass knows that'd be a bad idea right now given how the economy is probably going to implode sooner or later regardless.

Yeah, never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. I just wish he'd make more mistakes faster and that midterms came sooner.

Assuming there are midterms, which I hope to god there are. The alternative is very bloody, and while my teenaged self thought he was ready to die in a ditch for his ideals my thirtysomething self would like to have the joy of building a just society rather than the satisfaction of dying for the hope of one.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Personally I wish to build a society that these profligates would hate and allow them to live long enough that they can witness it and weap. Y'know before lashing them to a cross or sacrificing them to the gods.

You and I see eye to eye. Let them witness a better world and despair.

Letters are being prepared and will be mailed the minute Trump's term is over, you just wait and see!

[–] Arrandee@lemmy.world 64 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I admire the professionalism in the judge, it would be very hard to not just type out eat a dick up, till ya hiccup for 94 pages.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Maybe it says that down one of the edges of the page. Why wise would it take 95 pages for this?

Damg 94 pages to explain that

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

That's what a district court judge will do when they know their work is going to be heavily scrutinized on appeal. They're mainly writing to persuade appellate judges because nobody likes getting reversed and overruled.

[–] crandlecan@lemmy.zip 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump's a bit dense so they really had to spell it out for him, starting with the fundamentals like A, B, ... See? :)

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Hopefully it’s a picture book. Otherwise, he’ll need his nanny to read it to him.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He grew up on a tablet. He needs short-form video.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 7 points 2 days ago

He grew up on a tablet.

On a clay tablet, maybe? Dude is old as fuck.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago

Who's going to enforce that?
Nobody's going to enfore that.

He'll still have his name on it this time next year.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

US district judge...directed the Trump administration to take down all physical signage

Let me tell ya what's not going to happen...

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This judge could deputize people to do it. They don't have to rely on the criminals to enforce laws against themselves. Anyone can enforce the law if they are enabled to do so. Before professional slave catchers (police) came around that's how enforcement was done.

To date no judge has done this, even in cases where they know people are likely being flown to their deaths in Central America.

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Just like the other hundred things that judges "ordered" him to do that he just didn't. Yeah we got a king anyway, shit in the pants and everything

[–] Egonallanon@feddit.uk 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Its a really petty win but it's a really funny win.

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I'll take every petty win I can get. Their strategy is death by a thousand cuts to change the soul of our nation, so we got a block like 500 cuts to survive

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Especially when he threw a temper tantrum.about it and said they were stupid and he didn't want his name on it anyway

[–] Bloefz@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

His voters will only applaud him for it because "he's sticking it to the man". The man is they themselves but I doubt they will ever see that

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

To MAGA, "The Man" is anyone with an advanced degree and/or a position of responsibility in an institution.

They hate "people who think they know better than me just because they went to college too long and chair some Board of Whatever"

They love "one of us" like RFK or Ka$h -- who don't seem like 'educated intellectual' types -- in those leadership roles.

[–] Bloefz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Yes but the one Trump is sticking it to is them primarily. They're the ones that suffer the most as a result of his politics. Especially in the long run.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

It's impossible for us to comprehend the Trump voter.

I used to be able to squint and maybe, somehow, someway go.. Ok yea I get it, as flawed as the reasoning is... I get it kind of sort of...

But after Jan 6th, after all the Trump Epstein Files , there is zero rationality.

These people are fucked in the head and in a real life death cult. This is no longer hyperbole.

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

You are the man, man.

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Or just remove Kennedy's name and force feed Trump with Big Macs to make the memorial real.

[–] dtrain@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] crandlecan@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

Make it law! No Trump signs anywhere!

[–] Zier@fedia.io 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Replace his name with a vinyl banner that says, "No one really likes you Donny!"

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 6 points 2 days ago

"No one has ever loved you. No one. They only pretend because they want your money."

[–] enphurgen@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

More people need to tell trump to go fuck himself
