Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

He doesn't even like his own children.

[–] petersr@lemmy.world -2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Hmm. In the biographies it is a least clear that he values spending time with them and has them in mind for many decisions - but definitely in his own way.. Like quality time with his newest baby while being on a SpaceX conference call.

And the better question: Do they like him?

[–] Markie84@feddit.org 6 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I wouldn’t believe the biography of a liar. One of his children, Vivian Wilson, has a very different story to tell.

[–] petersr@lemmy.world 2 points 55 minutes ago

I hear you. But a lot of the content of both biographies are based on recounts from other people about him - but still..

Regarding Vivian, Elon has definitely done a really horrible job with her. According to the most recent book, he presumably tried to downside his mansion lifestyle in an effort to gain a bit of her fondness for him back (this was driven by their differences in political views, hers being much more left leaning; not her transgender identity). But obviously it didn't help one bit. It just goes to show that he will bend for people (including his children) to like him.

The elite want people to have children because people with children have something they could lose that isn't theirs to sacrifice. It makes them easier to control.

[–] garbage_world@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

Did that really happen?

[–] solidheron@sh.itjust.works 16 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Don't let Elon musk tell you what to do with your genitals. Also anyone that cares about brith rate and however much there is of whatever race is weird.

Humans will ultimately evolve into another species and concept of human races will become irrelevant.

When did having multiple baby mommas become NOT embarrassing?

People who have no shame don't get embarrassed the same way.

I would not accept shame of a type I wouldn't put on someone else. Would I shame a woman for having kids with multiple guys? Of course not, you'd have to be a megachode to do that. So why would we tolerate people shaming anyone for that practice? Why should a person's gender determine whether they're allowed multiple partners in their life? We're not even talking about non-monogamy here; plenty of people have kid(s) with one partner and then have more with another after leaving the first. I've got family members and friends who've done that. You think how much we shame them should be determined by their gender? Only women should be permitted?

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

I'd shame a woman for being a massive creep about the whole thing, and layering transphobia on top of that.

The cost is parenthood is probably one of the biggest obstacles to having a higher fertility rate in most industrialized countries.

You want more babies? Stop hoarding all the money with the other 15 richest people in the country. Pay your fair share of taxes so the people looking to start building families get the support they need and their children have access to an affordable quality education. Also give everyone a fair pay.

This may have been his purpose for raiding the US government files. Probably some schemes involving widespread eugenics by nudging more favorable social supports for certain groups. Completely speculatory but plausible given what can be done with big data these days. We still have zero leads as to what he stole all that data for.

The cost is parenthood

Money is certainly a big factor, but so is time and the general lack of support parents get from society. Historically (and in some parts of the world today), there was more focus on the extended family rather than the elementary family. The shift in focus on family structure has put a lot more demands on parents. Combined with the higher expectations of parenting, and it's no wonder many people are opting out. When I talk about expectations, think about not only material items but how norms have changed regarding the level of supervision.

Parenting has become punitive in many modern societies.

[–] NoodlePoint@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Combined with the higher expectations of parenting, and it’s no wonder many people are opting out.

It's now Darwinian in the sense that only those who can afford quality have the likelihood of better upward mobility, like some of them insisting to have private education over public. Of course and sadly, the so-called middle class is being hollowed out as the wealth gap widens.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 30 points 11 hours ago

"No, we need more workers to steal value from! Keep squirting them out!!"

Hey Elon, the cost of parenthood is the problem, as proven by you having all this money and all these kids. Gimme cash and ill have a kid (not yours)

It's missing the bit where he starts screaming "You will not replace us!" and accusing them of pedophilia.

I'm originally from Texas and whenever I'd go back (which hasn't been for several years now) there would be tons of 'pro-life' billboards featuring happy, smiling, blonde, blue-eyed, white babies

wants a slave population basically

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I would think wage slaves, but what does a guy who wants to automate everyone out of a job need wage slaves for?

Comfort slaves. You want to have food and a place to live? Billionaires get to have whatever and do whatever they want and you never complain. What other future could they possibly be gearing towards?
