Started Yoshi and the Mysterious Book! Just played first three levels before my kids stole the Switch 2, will play it a bit more over the weekend.

Each level is about investigating a specific creature, you have to try different actions that gives us more info about that creature, it is then noted in the book. These actions can be as simple as jumping on them, or complicated which requires series of actions. One thing better than Crafted world is that whole level remains explorable (at least for now, dunno if changes in later levels), so if you missed something, you can go back and try to do that. Though, there is no list of things that you need to do, when you clear the level once, it fills some pages with the things you did, and add some empty places for things you missed, but it doesn't cover everything, for instance if there are 10 pages of items to do, and you only did let's say 5 pages, it will only highlight missing items on that pages, and won't show the remaining 5 pages of things you missed.

Game is very relaxing and fun, but it is too early to give any final verdict.

Started King Oddball. It's another game by 10tons, the developers behind Sparkle 2 that I finished last week. You are a big weird alien head, who throws stones using his tongue to destroy tanks (and probably other stuff). You have 3 stones to clear all enemies. I'll be playing it slowly, clearing a level or two when deciding what to play, or just playing for a few mins. Probably won't mention it again until I finish it.

Finished Lords of the Fallen (2014). You get really OP near the end, so didn't have much trouble clearing rest of the bosses and areas. Only problem was figuring out where to go, which is a big problem in this game, had trouble finding out where to go next multiple times.

It is probably one of the easiest soulslike I have played, there were whole areas and bosses where I didn't die even once. This usually doesn't happen. Some of the mechanics feel a bit weak, like the timing of attack window. Also, it's not a very long game, it took somewhere around 10 hours for me to finish the game.

Overall, I don't think it's a must play game, but if you are interested in the series and want to play from the very first game, it's not bad game.

Started Fallout 4 once again. Got it on PS+ quite a while ago, and I played it back then, but for some reason I never finished it. So now taking my time and slowly exploring stuff. Looked up various builds online for some ideas and going with V.A.T.S based gunslinger, or well at least my own version of it, since I just skimmed the general idea and didn't pay much attention to required perks and S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats.

Finished the second chapter and reached the investigation part of third chapter of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition!

Spoiler for Chapter 2The second trial felt very similar to the first one, the culprit was very obvious, there was just one point that could point it to another character, but other than that it was very straightforward.

Or that's what I thought. I was really surprised with the way things turned out in the end. Game really knows how to keep player on the toes.

At this point I don't think the victim and the umm.. "the person who does it" are dynamic. They are same for everyone. Anyways, for the small chance it isn't so, in my case the second victim was Chihiro and he was killed by Mondo

More Pokémon Pokopia. Slowly meeting more Pokémon, not much to say about it.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

Almost finished Octopath Traveler II.

Finished my run through with the 3 character team, finished most side stories and am almost done with Hikaris solo run. From what I've heard, the post-game isn't very long, although it does require a lot of annoying grinding. Normal content only goes up to level ~50, but the final boss seems to require level ~80. You can only reasonably reach this level by hitting a 7% chance for 100x EXP from a certain (expensive) recruitable NPC within a fight with a rare monster encounter. Think metal slimes. I don't have a number for that one, but I've seen 2 during my ~65 hours. Rinse and repeat for multiple teams.

...yeah, not really feeling that one. I'll try fighting him low level. I'm not good with resetting for random stuff.

Did the second chapter of Danganronpa. Just an hour ago, actually.

The status quo changed so much, I feel like any semblance of normalcy or trust are gone.

Chapter 2Mondo killed Chihiro. As someone else wrote, the game is linear.

I went in with two assumptions:

  • Chihiro is trans. I picked up on it immediately when the pool area was introduced, and I guess I was half right.
  • Byakuya killed him and tried to pin it on Toko, who will play along out of love. That was the obvious trap, I guess.

After this case, I feel like any and all events between cases are directly related to the next case. I previously assumed the whole sauna bromance thing to be a setup for later conflict.

Going into the next chapter will be weird.

  • First of all, there's a confirmed serial killer.
  • Byakuya is both kinda stupid and a massive troll. No way in hell he could have defended himself alone after everyone thought he did it.
  • Taka lost his first and only friend, I guess. He'll be a changed man for sure.
  • Celeste seems like a second Byakuya.
  • The 16th student was confirmed.
  • Someone is in cahoots with Monokuma. My money is on either Kyoko or a returning Junko. Maybe Toko.

So, about the Danganronpa stuff:

Reply to Chapter 2 SpoilersI didn't pick up on Chihiro being trans (or any similar vibe), should start paying more attention to these.

The Byakuya killing and pinning on Toko part is what I thought as well, but as you said, it was an obvious trap.

I didn't even think that sauna bromance thing will be related to the cases, I just chalked it up to character development in-between the cases. I didn't even think about it after the trial...

Personally, I can't really decide who will be working for Monokuma. I guess Kyoko could be one, Junko was very surely dead, I don't think she will be returning. I thought Byakuya might be one, but he has too high an opinion of himself to do anything like that. My money is on Hiro, he acts way too innocent.

Still busy with Xenoblade X, somehow this one is not catching me as much as the other xenoblade games. Not the biggest fan of the music sometimes

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Yeah, I had high expectations of the game, but I liked it less than the other Xenoblade games. Still, not a bad game, had fun playing it.

Back on Cyberpunk 2077, Firewatch, Subnautica (first), GTAV, The Council, Dawn of Man, Baldur's Gate III, after a very long hiatus from gaming.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Wow, that's lots of very long games that you are playing at once. How do you manage them all?

[–] clag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I tend to do this in many arenas. I often have 5 or 6 books going, countless TV series (I don't binge watch), craft activities in various stages of completion. It's because I am a fan of escapism, but the theme of my escape needs to be changeable depending on which world I need to escape into.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Interesting. Have fun!

[–] Khwarezm@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Still playing AC Shadows on Switch 2. Also, playing with the kids more, Go Vacation, and maybe some Super Mario Wonder.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nice! How's Go Vacation, compared to other party games (if you have played any)?

[–] Khwarezm@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

It’s quite nice actually as a Family game. Reminds me a lot of Kinect Sports Resort. There are some mini games with weird controls but overall I feel like the kids and wife are enjoying it more lately compared to other party games we played.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Thanks! Will show it to my kids and see if they like it.

Answering your Danganronpa spoiler.

spoiler

At this point I don’t think the victim and the umm… “the person who does it” are dynamic.

They are fixed.

Playing Yoshi’s Crafted World!

About 80% done I think? Finished the second (large) area, have 4 gems and starting the third part of the map. Can probably finish this during the weekend.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ah, thanks for the info on the spoiler part. I could easily look it up but didn't want to get spoiled to something else in the story.

Any plans for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book yet?

[–] Phelpssan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Any plans for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book yet?

No Switch 2 and no plans on getting one yet.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

facepalm

I completely forgot that Yoshi is Switch 2 only.

[–] pasdechance@jlai.lu 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'll probably go through the backlog and see if I have any games that need grinding or post-credit missions to finish up.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Not starting anything new? Waiting for some specific game?

[–] pasdechance@jlai.lu 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I was waiting for R-Type Dimensions III but I'll hold off until the patch and a good sale (the reviews are mixed and the price is a bit high for a remake/port). It is a 3-day weekend so my son will probably hog the console. It

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Oh yeah, long weekend!

Just checked the reviews, and yeah, not looking good. I know many people were excited for the game, hope they fix up the issues.

[–] pasdechance@jlai.lu 2 points 3 days ago

They've already made a post promising to do just that. Shmups don't always get the best treatment, but there is always a new one just around the corner. Or a remake or remix or rerelease.

Played more Visions of Mana. Got the final party member and I'm surprised he joins this late. Especially since he's the dedicated healer! Well, my party is established and I really have no use for him at this point. It's hard to tell how much longer the game is, but I think I could power through this weekend. Except of course...

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is finally here! Only played the first two levels to completion today and it's exactly what I expected. I got very strong Pokemon Snap vibes! I'm curious how the general reception to the game is going to be, though. Anyone who wasn't paying too much attention and is expecting an actual platformer is bound to be disappointed.

My Fallout 3 journey is now taking me southwest. Taking care of an unmarked quest I've had for a long time on my way to the next story segment, which I remember very well from my first attempt of playing the game. I'm looking forward to doing Tranquility Lane again, easily my favorite part of the game (that I know of).

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Weird decision to introduce a character so late, is it possible there was a way to recruit him early and you missed it?

After playing Fallout 4 some more, I realise I am a big fan of SPECIAL any more, makes me feel like I am missing out on the rest of the stuff. I prefer more Skyrim style of leveling up now. Trying to ignore that mix-maxing part of my brain and just enjoying the game for what it is.

[–] sdcSpade@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Visions of Mana is very linear, this is intentional.

From what I know of Fallout 4, you're not missing out on anything. The max level of Fallout 3 is 30 and I'm on 21 already. In Fallout 4 the limit is technically 65,535 but that's only because the game crashes past that point. You'll be able to max out the SPECIAL stats and any other perk loooong before that.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Heh, that's good to know, though I am sure you will run out of things to do a lot before you reach level 65,535 😀

I am just taking my time, trying to explore as much I can, and doing any side stuff that I can find.

Xcom 1 long war rebalanced mod on classic difficulty ironman.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I don't play on PC so have never tried Long War but it sounds very interesting.

Also, very brave of you to go with ironman. I am always afraid of losing my soldiers.

This week I started a new career in Top Gear Rally 2 for the Nintendo 64 on the Analogue 3D. I had this game when I was younger and going back to it now, I was impressed that it felt like riding a bike. I hadn't played in so many years, yet I felt back at home. I'll probably finish this career eventually before I move on to any other N64 game.

On Switch 2 I got the physical edition of Bubsy 4D this week. I had played the demo and it convinced me to buy it. I haven't had enough time to get into the main game yet. So I'm hoping to get some gaming hours this weekend with Bubsy.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

How are you liking the Analogue 3D? When did you get it?

Bubsy 4D looks interesting, going to wait for your review!
