News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

MODERATORS

I can't post multiple images on this site which is seemingly the only other non-dead internet forum on the whole entire web. Got temp-banned for making a "threatening" joke against house centipedes. Got twmp-banned for answering an AskReddit question. Got shadowbanned for posting about my two temp bans.

You are 1 user out of millions of other cash cows. It's easier to permaban you and to ignore you.

Even if 10s of thousands try to revolt against reddit like they have in the past, nothing happens because 10k are easier to permaban and ignore with millions more cash cows who still walk into the barn to get milked.

[–] Mountainaire@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I feel like the shock is more due to how quickly the site has moved to ban permanently. It may have come as a result of the increase in bots over the years.

[–] King@literature.cafe 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

To be fair, estimates put 20% to 50% of reddit users as bots, 15% of posts generated by ai, and in high traffic subs, non human interaction in comments/replies is 40/50%...

Reddits user statistics are essentially an illusion, majority are lurkers, people just checking an answer via google, or bots.

Real active population is tiny, and the new account creation and subreddit creation system is so horrendous that I honestly don't see how they get new people. I moved here because I created a second account to be a moderator for a subreddit I made, put in a lot of effort, both my account and sub were permabanned near instantly, no reply for why or from reddit help. Was absolutely eye opening.

Only thing was for rule number whatever: Spam...

Nothing human about the place, the individual doesn't matter, the corporation is all. It is why I've decided to move away from anything American.

[–] Mountainaire@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I really don't know where these stats measure. I'm in none of the default subs. I'm in places like /r/antiwork, /r/fossdroid, /r/PlasticFreeLiving, /r/zerowaste, /r/Espanso, most recently /r/LinuxMint, /r/linux4noobs, etc. and the vast majority of them sure seems human to me. Go ahead and create a multireddit (as it's called) of those specific subs and tell me how much AI you see: https://old.reddit.com/r/antiwork+fossdroid+plasticfreeliving+zerowaste+espanso+LinuxMint+linux4noobs

This is precisely how I use it (well, that's actually maybe just 10% of my subs); skip the home feed entirely and go straight to your ultra-awesome list of personally curated subs and just stick to them. I really think the best and worst of Reddit are what you make of it: where you go. I am one of those answer searchers but I also try to help others while I'm there. It's been tremendously helpful to me over the years, despite facing trolls every now and then, sure.

Wait, is Lemmy not American? At least, the original programmers?

For sure. I remember a time when an actual human admin would respond if you were wrongfully permabanned and attempted to appeal or if you reported moderator misconduct. Those days are long gone.

[–] King@literature.cafe 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah those were the days. Stuff hasn't been the same for a few years.

[–] sleepmode@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

i like when i find myself pre-banned from subreddits I’ve never been in for participating in ones they don’t like. Site is such a joke.

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 6 points 4 days ago

Hate centipedes.

I saw someone get banned from r/washingtondc because they said they couldn’t wait to retire so they didn’t have to commute down there anymore.

[–] inkblade@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

My account got perma-banned in December--just because I rightly called out my government for their vile-ness.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

On the one hand, communities without moderation against things like credible fomentation of violence, glorification of racism, or religious fundamentalism ... tend to devolve into toxic 4chan sludge (or worse, darknet sludge)

OTOH, the monolithic, authoritarian structure of centralized sites like Reddit encourages "Little Dictator" moderators who revel in their power and/or err on side of knee-jerk bans -- ultimately to protect the precious shareholders and advertisers (though moderators rarely understand the incentives well enough to connect these)

If you've ever been banned off lemmy.ml (as I proudly have), you know that the Little Dictator mods are still on Fedi. But the decentralized nature and open protocols make it easy to "vote with your feet" (as I proudly have).

you deserve it for posting gross shit like this:

authlib.social not beating the allegations

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

How dare I call Hamas rapists

Wow I have seen your point, religion is a good reason to commit rape

[–] Diva@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

my point is you are constantly posting about sexual assault and deflecting in defense of a genocidal ethnostate. as a result you seem to fit in well at piefed and get kicked out of spaces with any humanity.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Isreal has committed genocide against Palestinians. Hamas has committed genocide against Jewish Isrealis.

My point has been that I believe the one that is less democratic and more religious is unlikely to ever join reject barbarism and join civil society; the one that is at least ostensibly democratic and secular is much more likely to reject barbarism and join civil socity.

You seem to want the world to have "Good Guys" and "Bad Guys". Maybe with a Two Minutes' Hate against the Bad Guys.

[–] Diva@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

the majority military and friendly fire causalities that resulted from the uprising from an open-air prison are not a genocide.

your vision of 'more democratic' and 'less religious' is an explicit jewish ethnostate denying political rights to millions

the genocidal ethnostate you clearly support are the ones being barbaric and should be rejected from civil society

your repeated invocation of rape while supporting an ongoing extermination campaign including thousands of women and children is classic pinkwashing. you don't care about sexual violence, you're using feminist concern as cover for genocide. the fact that you keep bringing it up (in incredibly gross ways) while defending extermination shows it's rhetorical, not moral.

you support genocide while claiming the genociders will 'reform.' you're not demonstrating nuance, you're demonstrating how comfortable you are with exterminating humans you view as unworthy. you're a zionist and it's obvious

[–] Swaus01@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Wtf is that third removed comment? You're saying you want to see someone being sexually assaulted?

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I'm saying the government of Isreal, despite the atrocities it has done, is in fact a democracy with elections and judges who get degrees in jurisprudence from secular universities filled with people from other cultures and countries.

While Hamas, while governing Palestine, is not a democracy, its decision makers are religious and insular ... entered into an official policy of raping and murdering civilians

In other words, Hamas is committing atrocities because of its basic strcuture, while Isreal is committing atrocities despite the democratic secular structures intended to guard against such things.

I was banned recently, my second ban (in 15 years), for saying that I wouldn't mind if Iran wiped Staten Island off the map. I'm not sure I need to include context, Staten Island is terrible.

My previous ban, probably a year ago, was because I said it should be okay to crash your car into people with obnoxious mods (bright lights, pop tunes, etc.).

Both bans were for calling for violence, which maybe the first ban you could argue was, but the second one definitely wasn't. And so the part that bothers me most, and the point of the story, is that they offer a route to dispute your ban, which I did, and never hear anything back either way. I want my due process.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Weirdly, I can kinda understand how the second one is a call for violence, but not the first. You’re just expressing your neutrality towards another country’s actions. Surely they can’t expect you to have an opinion about everything.

Of course they can. Opinions sanctioned by Corporate are mandatory.

[–] papitoooo@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

I was permanently banned a few days ago for “harassment.”

I was arguing with an absolutely over the top racist. Was I rude and colorful with my language? Sure. But a permanent ban? Fuckin soft as baby shit.

And let me tell you, reddits ban evasion measures are top notch. If I make a new account it’s banned within minutes, regardless of what device I make the account on.

Anyway…lemmy is pretty cool so far lol

For multiple images you should use an external uploader (catbox.more, imgur) then put the images in the post body using ![alt text](link).

I hope someone makes a pull request for multiple images in the post to Lemmy. I don't know about other fediverse platforms.

[–] Swaus01@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago

I can’t post multiple images on this site which is seemingly the only other non-dead internet forum on the whole entire web.

You can, you press the tiny image icon above the text that you're typing and you upload one, then it creates a link to the image in the lemmy servers which mqnifests as an imagine in the body of your post.

It will look different to this because you're in lemmy.world instance but it works just the same
