Played this all the way through back when it released, as a teenager. So formative. It was my first Zelda game.

You talk about things you disliked yet you didn't mention the water temple????
And yeah I really loved playing this when it came out on the original Wii. Played it to death. Loved the story and the designs, and it really sparked an appreciation for world building in me. I wouldn't mind playing it again some day.
I haven’t gotten that far just yet. How bad is it compared to OoT’s?
The world building is absolutely something I understand. It’s like finding that one game that clicks and really makes you want to construct your own. OoT was that for me.
Oh it's something people famously have gripes about but I don't mind it really. It's not my favorite by any means but it's fun!
I’ll try to go into it with an open mind then! I really enjoyed Ocarina of Time’s water dungeon (as long as I’m playing SoH or 3D with the equipable iron boots). So I’m actually a little hopeful about this one too
Day 666 had better be The Barbie game.
Peak game
Im doing the same on my steam deck. I wish there was a way to make the HUD/UI elements smaller. They do take a lot of real estate on the screen. And Dusk's bloom is better than the original, but still very powerful!
Overall I am still enjoying! Play on!
I hope day 666 to be doom
I think I have a copy of Doom 2 for the switch I’m considering, but also I have a personal stigma whenever I do Switch games. Something about it makes me feel dirty lmao
This was my first Zelda game. I didn't read any reviews, I just played it. Afterwards I learned that not everybody loves it, but I do. Being the first, I guess it will always be the best Zelda game to me. I... don't like BotW. I spent a few dozen hours in it over the past few years and have not finished it. I prefer the traditional structure of Zelda games.
I loved TP, also my first Zelda game. I also loved BotW. What freedom to explore and roam and discover! ✨🙌
It’s funny since when it came out it had rave reviews. GameStop (when it was still good) got flamed for giving it a mere 8.7 / 10.
Skyward sword was even more critically received and that’s the one everyone says is the worst.
I personally have a soft spot for TP even though the 3-5 hour intro sucks.
I really want to learn to love it, at the very least though I can respect it and what it does. So if I get through it and still don’t like it I’ll settle for that.
As for BoTW, I’m with you. On its own I like it, but compared to traditional Zelda games I think I prefer the OG stuff far more. There’s just too much to do and it feels a bit too open if that makes sense
My main issue with BotW is that there are no dungeons. Shrines are just small random puzzle games. Doing a dungeon in Zelda is part of the quest, doing shrines is doing puzzles for the sake of it to get points (Orbs) to advance your character with some numbers and bars. Only the Divine Beasts resemble traditional Zelda dungeons to some extent.
That too. I can’t believe i forgot about that. The divine beasts just felt off for some reason. And it doesn’t help they all felt kind of the same with an aesthetic. And I loathed the shrines. It felt tedious compared to something like the smaller world puzzles for a heart piece
I agree about BOTW and TOTK. I think they could of been great games without being Zelda, but to me, Zelda should always follow the same pattern and flow that I'm used to. I can understand the praise they get, but again it just doesn't feel like Zelda to me
Yeah they are good games, just really bad zelda games.
TP is by far my favorite LoZ (and I started with the first one on the NES). If you ever replay it, Dusk is absolutely amazing. Bloom control, 16:9 support, graphics upscaling that looks amazing and runs silky smooth. They really did a great job with it.
I’ve been playing with the graphics, I almost left it on 16:9, but decided to play more akin to an OH experience so I can appreciate it in its natural state before playing with all the fancy stuff
The wind up to get started kills me each time.
I’m very much not a fan of this art style. In fact, I kind of hate it.
The combat also feels a bit off to me as well, not really sure what it is about it. I’m guessing it is due to being optimized for Wiimotes or something.
It’s the same complaint I have about Wind Waker too. I’m so used to OoT just going “Here’s a sword, and some money to buy a shield. Now get in the tree and get the fuck out”, so it’s hard for me not to compare them. Usually the first playthrough I can get over it, but if I lose the save and have to restart? That’s where the challenge is.
Also, yeah, I’m with you on the art style. Landscape I love, and the same with Link’s. But like everything else I just can’t get behind.
If you don't like overly long and slow starts, beware Final Fantasy X e.e"
On these graphics, I'd been playing some GameCube games recently, and it feels like a trend for this console, to go overboard with lighting, excessive amount of details in the scenary, pastel colors when possible, and an almost otherworldly overall feel.
Even Eternal Arcadia Legends, which is a remaster, not even an original GC IP, gets a bit of this treatment. "<.<
Usually the first play through aren’t bad with long starts, but I still loathe them. But I’ll keep that in mind because I think Final Fantasy X is one of the FF games I wanted to try.
I almost wonder for the graphics if it’s because they got all these new processing power. N64 to GameCube was a pretty major jump, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it took them a while longer than a generation how too really make it look good
Iirc, FFX is a ~200h game if you go for optionals, ~80h if you focus mostly on the main story. So if the start takes maybe 3h (at least how long I go about without rushing and without challenges), the start doesn't seem too long.
About looking weird, could be, yeah. Apparently from the SNES to the N64 and PS1 was a major leap too, which gave all those experimental 3D games;
I always forget how insane the bloom/blur is in this game. What were they thinking?
Dusk has its own bloom implementation but its still really far too noticeable. There was something about games from this time that went totally over the top with the bloom
Bloom was brand new. Devs didn't have access to it at all until that console generation and took a while to figure out how to use it right.
The 'real is brown' phase was similar, with devs suddenly being able to use color grading and having no idea how to use that responsibly.
I have it on OG while I’m playing. Is the Dusk implementation any better or is it more of a personal choice thing?
