In a way this isn't surprising. I'm from Griffith, which wasn't originally part of Farrer but got brought into the seat a couple of years ago. We suddenly went from having a representative people seemed OK with to being part of one of the largest electorates in the state with the typical setup of an MP in Sussan Ley who had been there for years that did nothing for the place but never got voted out.

Sussan Ley was health minister for a bit, then ended up leading the party out of default through lack of any better option.

It was never going to go Labor because it never had been, and they weren't given the option. And it's not like anyone else gave them a compelling choice to vote for them who would realistically get in.

Combine this with the media telling everyone how One Nation is ascending and your right wing brain worm algorithms and it's no surprise this happened. Are commentators really worried, or will this make the news a lot more intere see ting for them in the lead up to the next few elections?

Fucking hicks

They reinforce the stereotype at every turn, then they complain about their betters judging them and finding them wanting

These people should be knelt over shallow graves (I'll leave what happens next to your imagination)

This is Australia dude. You want to behave like a Zionist, on your bike sunshine

[–] Walk_blesseD@piefed.blahaj.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Are you agreeing with me or with the one nation dickheads?

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don’t ever agree with One Nation or their voters but advocating for bending them over shallow graves is dogshit.

That’s the type of shit their extremists advocate for.

Killing nazis is community defence 🤷‍♀️

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Most of these voters aren’t Nazis, they’re misguided, stupid people who listen to the shit they see on Stefanovics blog or Natalie Barrs show in the morning.

Rural people have long been painfully conservative. Doesn’t make them Nazis.

We have a word for people who voted for the NSDAP not because of an informed commitment to their ideological tenets but because they were gullible racist and xenophobic troglodytes—we call them "nazis."

And yeah, I live in rural Australia, I know most ruroids are concavebrained and suited to nothing more intellectually demanding than a peasant lifestyle. It's a shame that we live under a political system in which these ghouls get the same amount of influence as people who actually want to improve society somewhat.

Well I’m fuckin glad we live under one that doesn’t allow and frowns upon beheading of even these rural people. You’re not the only one who grew up among them; I’m well aware of what views some hold.

Still, we are not in the business of beheading cunts over shallow graves regardless of how deep their interpretation of Nazism is. In fact it reads like some Che Guevara revolutionary shit from a teenager and not something you’d expect from someone who claims to have lived in the bush. I hated it too, dude.

Look it’s 10 years since 2016, Australia is overdue to follow the same footsteps. Pauline doesn’t even have to change the acronym.

Eventually 2 party stupidity always leads to this. And Australia is a wealthy country with a high living standard, so leaches like her and her ilk can extract a lot of wealth before any will even notice.

I just wonder if Palmer will be picked as minister of education or something. Like what’s Pauline’s RFK Jr pick?

The broad concern for me is how much damage Rineharts influence and funding is doing.

This is a problem to be honest. The entire mainstream media is owned and in lockstep. There’s a continual attack on the left and anything social and it’s all one way as Tracy Westerman commented today. The main social media sites are being botted and paid trolled to the shithouse, they’re fucking everywhere. It’s all Rinehart and her money plus Murdoch and Stokes as well.

Labor is too pissweak to anything about it. They have an absolute majority and they won’t pass anything that stops or arrests this, like legislation which breaks up media ownership or ensures some integrity. They’re giving away money to developers for infrastructure, ignoring the public on a gas tax, cutting NDIS and the campaign Rinehart been paying for since the Voice is just fucking everything because everyone’s terrified of the left when they are the only ones fighting for us.

Labor’s the problem; if they did the two or three things needed, like public housing access fixes, instituted that gas tax and didn’t cut the NDIS they wouldn’t have half the issues they’re having now.

Let's just see how long he waits before he ditches PHON, now they've served their purpose for him

It's one seat.

They completely lost SA. The only thing that has changed in 30 years is that Pauline has started pretending she's a successful politician

We have preferential voting and most people will still put her close to last

Most of us hate Trump and Gina. Just because its hair is orange instead of its face doesn't mean we'll be fooled

ON supporters just tend to be vocal idiots

A good thought experiment is the covid vaccine. Based on social media, you'd think we were all worried about it. However, if you then click on their profile, it's almost always a car, truck, guns or horse.. And those seem to be the communities causing 99% of the noise

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

Empty vessels make the most noise, that's for sure
